I have never owned a GoPro, but started 360 photography in 2005 with a mirror-ball add on for a digital camera. I’ve owned 360 cams from Giroptic, RICOH, Kodak and now have Insta360 and DJI. While my RICOH had better photos than the ONE X2, I got a ONE X2 because it had better software and was more fun. I instantly used a "worse" camera more than any of the other models I had. As I moved from X2 to X3 to X4 to X5, each comparison always had some things I thought the earlier model did better. With my DJI Osmo 360, I got it specifically for low light, hoping it might be my "go to" for low light situations, and the X5 for everything else. I’ve already seen alot of footage comparing it to other cameras, and some things look better on the Max 2, and other things look worse. Personal preference is a b-tch ;) What do you expect the niche of the Max 2 to be? What are the things that GoPro does better?
r/gopro • What will the GoPro Max 2 niche be? ->I am disappointed for sure. X5 came out unexpectedly (most likely because they knew DJI and Gopro were releasing something soon). The X5s larger sensors and AI chips did help enhance lower light situations, and I think color improved. Osmo360 disappointed with non replaceable lenses, and their workflow/apps still seem a little behind. The footage I saw originally was, at best, equal to the X5. For some reason recent footage looks better than X5. It's also disappointing that DJIs first 360 camera is just as expensive as the leader in the market (at least in the US) I thought Gopro was going to have a "hold my beer" moment. Their regular action cams have been taken over by DJI and Insta360. They haven't had a 360 cam in 5+ years. After being king for years, I thought they would swing for the fences to regain the title. So far, I've seen average footage. It's not the worst, but it's not the best. The fact that they didn't attempt to upgrade the sensor is unacceptable. Low light looks horrible. The replaceable lenses are nice, but it looks like it causes weird lense flares. Their attempt to convince us that we get more pixels because of some stitching gimmick doesn't mean anything to me. One thing for each camera to upgrade for me to choose would be X6 - 10 bit color Osmo3602 - replaceable lenses Max3 - larger sensor
r/gopro • Max2's image quality is insanely good ->Thanks. The footage looks good, but its hard to tell if it's any better than what the X5 or Osmo360 would've captured. When I say the gopro doesn't look as good, Im referring to comparison videos I've seen. I've even seen the creator say "its clear the max2 is better", yet I'm looking at it and thinking the complete opposite. This isnt about preference either. During a comparison, I can read words on a sign, but I can't read them from the Max2. Maybe I'll warm up to it like I did with the osmo360. I think the osmo360 is the best of the 3 at the moment.
r/gopro • Max2's image quality is insanely good ->I just watched Hugh's comparison video again. In good lighting, the osmo360 looks best out of the box. It's a little bit artificially sharpened to make it look clearer, which I dont mind. When you add sharpening in post, the Max2 does look better than the osmo360. It doesn't make up for the small sensor though. I dont think I've ever filmed a 360 video at night, but a larger sensor does make a difference in daytime situations. The osmo360 is so much better than the max2 and the X5 in those situations. As I said before, if the insta360 would upgrade to 10 bit, they win. If gopro would upgrade to a larger sensor, they win. If DJI would add replaceable lenses, they win. The DJI and Gopro editing softwares need to improve also.
r/gopro • Max2's image quality is insanely good ->Summary: the DJI Osmo 360 is an excellent first attempt at the consumer 360 camera market by DJI with some advantages vs the competition, but on the whole still remains a step behind the Insta360 X5.
r/Insta360 • Phillip Bloom reviews the Insta360 X5, DJI Osmo 360 vs the Kandao Qoocam 3 Ultra. ->I've seen countless videos now of low light Osmo 360 vs. X5 footage... I've seen none, none that "blew away the X5" in performance. The X5 choses to use heavier noise reduction and the Osmo 360 uses less which makes their night footage far, far, far more noisy and jittery looking. It's a toss up to me which is better, I could see the argument for the Osmo 360, but it hardly is transformative... \*\*they all suck in low light\*\*.
r/Insta360 • Realistic low light performance of insta 360 x5 in 8k pure video and audio in loud environment ->I'm keeping my X5 and Osmo 360 and wait for the Max 3
r/gopro • GoPro Max 2 was announced a few days ago — how are we feeling?
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->If you didn’t have the pocket 3, what would you be using to make memories on your family trips? I think the pocket is a great trip camera, but it requires you to treat it delicately - no impacts, heavy vibrations and you can’t get it wet. Maybe consider the Insta360 X5 if you just wanna capture your memories and not worry about framing your subjects. You’ll take a hit in quality and you’ll have to do more post processing, but the fact that you can just put it down and record in every direction is great. I can’t recommend the DJI Osmo 360 because it doesn’t have user replaceable lenses. The pocket 3 is going to win in low light, and it has the ability to attach two microphones, which is great. I have a bunch of action cams, including all of the pockets, many GoPros, insta360 go 3-ultra, and 360 cams. If I could only take one, it would probably be the X5 because of the durability, replaceable lenses, replaceable battery/sd cards, and its ability to shoot every direction all while being pocketable.
r/dji • Should I buy an Osmo Pocket 3 now? ->Overheating after 20 minutes already made it a no buy for me, but the Osmo 360 having better low-light video made it an incredibly easy choice. Also the GoPro software is somehow even worse than DJI's.
r/gopro • GoPro Max 2 was announced a few days ago — how are we feeling? ->I filmed a live concert two days ago, using an Osmo 360, three GoPro's (Osmo Actions kind of suck), three Sony A7S III's, a Sony A7C II, two Sony A6700's, a Sony A7 III, a Sony A7S II, and two Sony A7S I's. All of these cameras were filming for almost two hours, and not a single one overheated (the A6700's did require external fans).

r/gopro • GoPro Max 2 was announced a few days ago — how are we feeling? ->Seriously, it is way to early to really know about DJIs 360. I have both, DJI and Insta products and like what they offer in their respective products. But the 360 from DJI has no proven track record. You know nothing about firmware updates, software support or how the hardware really handles. If you open to gamble and don't mind playing with new tech, sure. But if you look at something that there is plenty of info about, be it good or bad, the X5 is really the only option!
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->The low light quality looks like crap. I saw a comparison between the X5 and the new DJI 360 camera and the 360 camera blew away the X5 in low light performance. That's pretty sorry if you ask me since this is Insta360's 5th version.
r/Insta360 • Realistic low light performance of insta 360 x5 in 8k pure video and audio in loud environment ->I just asked 2 people right now to look at night footage from both cameras and both agreed that the DJI looks better. Facts are facts, the DJI has better low light footage. You sound like a fan boy.
r/Insta360 • Realistic low light performance of insta 360 x5 in 8k pure video and audio in loud environment ->Grabbed an osmo 360 on sale in the US. The low light and the sale price was the main factor
r/gopro • GoPro Max 2 was announced a few days ago — how are we feeling? ->I just got the new Osmo360 from DJI. The software is still lacking, but it's much less of a unicorn shape (it's only 8.1cm tall, vs the X5 coming in at 12.5cm) while still offering fantastic image quality. And yes, for selfie shots from a 360 you want it to be mounted as far as possible from your helmet, but if you've mainly got the 360 - like me - to be able to easily reframe and to be able to see your flight, opening and landing in one shot, then you can just mount the 360 as snagfree and low as possible. I've got a new mount designed for it that fits my bases (massismounts.com) and will be testing it at the DZ tomorrow. https://preview.redd.it/4s66x5wz8xif1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09b2a2f959bdf09f9f8b089f0e6896be4d409fac
r/SkyDiving • Action Cam Advice ->The software is still being worked on and pretty subpar for now, but my first results from the camera are pretty great. It's much much shorter than the X5 (roughly 4cm) but the video quality is on par or slightly better. Let me upload a video from last weekend to YT, I'll post the link when it's done :-)
r/SkyDiving • Action Cam Advice ->but you can use the same battery btw the osmo360 and the action 5....
r/gopro • GoPro Max 2 was announced a few days ago — how are we feeling? ->I've tried to defend GorPro for so long as they do have the best daylight footage and best log profile. I've owned the Hero 3, 5, 7, 10 and now the 12. The 3, 5, 7 and 10 I was happy with. But it's getting indefensible now, with no Hero 14 out this year I am every chance to jump to DJI if the action 6 is good enough. Still using the GP2 processor is a joke, it came out with the H10, it's so far out of date. Low light hasn't usually been a concern to me as much, hence never making the switch to the competition. But it does pop up on occassions in thick forest or tree coverage, basically anything other than direct sunlight, so I am starting to notice how poor it is. On top of that the screens, lack of fast charge, slow boot times for "quick capture" ... I bought the Osmo 360 and am glad, I think the overall experience is better than that with GoPro and the footage is better than anything Insta360 has ever made which is always oversaturated and over sharpened trash. Maybe I'll switch back for Max 3 in 5 years time, maybe it will have a new processor, larger sensor and better editing software by then.
r/gopro • Max2's image quality is insanely good ->I own the X4 and the O360. Would go with the O360 over the X4. For the X5 vs O360 thing, especially if youre a DJ and i guess not focussing much on editing, color grading etc afterwards the X5 might be the better deal for you, since it looks good out of the box. No need for 10bit or bigger sensor here, low light is good on both - quite equal. One thing to consider maybe is sound. If you want to record audio especially with external mics i guess the O360 with its seamless mic integration is better.
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->Okay i see! Actually like the flexibility of the o360 footage more (log, 10bit) but i360 currently has the better software package. I'm sure you wont regret the purchase of either
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->Basing your opinion of DJI because of the cheapest product they make is silly. DJI makes the best drones, gimbals, handheld cams, etc on the market. The osmo360 is also much higher video quality than the X5.
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->The DJI has significantly better low light performance and a better sensor than the X5. Not sure wtf you're talking about with this "trust me bro I'm an amateur" response
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->What are you talking about? Every comparison shows the DJI with better camera quality and significantly better low light performance. It has a better sensor so there is no argument there. Only thing the X5 has going for it is replaceable lenses and ND filters. Which to actual professionals like me is important, but your responses based on nothing but buyer's bias are weird
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->The most important spec of a camera... is the camera sensor... that takes the videos... hello? DJI has better video quality, better low light, better battery life, higher framerate video, better app, etc. Clearly not the most intelligent
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->INSTA360 X5. I have done research and literally a horrible decision to get the Osmo 360.
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->The X5 just hits different, man. It’s got that crisp 8K that doesn’t just look good—it feels fast and clean, even when you’re bombing it through dirt or shredding snow. Low light? Doesn’t matter. That PureVideo mode straight-up sees in the dark. The colors pop, it handles bright sun or shade no problem, and the Insta360 app is crazy smooth for edits. Reframing’s actually fun, not frustrating. And the real kicker? Swappable lenses. So if you biff it and smoke the lens—no sweat. Just slap on another one. Osmo? You’re buying a whole new cam if you wreck it. Lame. DJI’s got nice specs, sure, but their editing flow ain’t there yet. And if you’re out in the cold or sending it hard, you want something that’s made for chaos. That’s the X5 all day
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->The DJI comes across as pretty immature to me. First generation. The advantages of a 1 inch sensor are not really exhausted for me either. For now I'll stick with my X5 and Insta's experience in this area. I'd rather wait for the successor from DJI, although I'm sure that Insta will conjure up an even better X6 from this template...
r/Insta360 • Insta 360 x5 or Osmo 360? ->1. When low light is not an issue. This is common in most action sports (which I assume is GoPro’s target market). 2. When temperature is not an issue. This is true in most outdoor motion sports where wind keeps the device cool. It is especially true when skiing and snowboarding. 3. When image quality is the highest priority. It looks like the MAX 2 has the closest to “true 8k”. This can be very important if you’re using the footage for high resolution VR headsets. 4. When form factor matters. The insta360 has an awkward tallish form factor that really only works well on a selfie stick, or on a vehicle / bike mount. On a helmet it sticks out really awkwardly. 5. When easily replaceable lenses are important Having said that, it’s not a slam dunk. I think the Osmo 360 fits a lot of the criteria that might make the MAX2 a choice over the insta 360.
r/gopro • Why the hell would anyone buy gopro max 2 over insta360 x5? ->If the objective is 360 photos, perhaps the Osmo 360 is a better choice? It can do 120MP photos so there‘s more likely to be an obvious increase in quality - although that only applies with good lighting (which based on your example is what I assume is your main use case)
r/gopro • Anybody else underwhelmed with the GoPro MAX 2 image quality? ->Bought an Osmo 360 and a Battery Extension Rod... the battery lasts at least 3-3.5 hours... satisfied... I shoot for 30 minutes continuously in 8k50 and there is no heating that shuts down the device... the cheapest... Transparent lens on it and I can drive it without fear...
