As others said any GoPro from 11-13 (I would even say starting with Gpro 9) would work. I would also recommend the gorpox Max (360) great for something like shark cage where you can re-fesme the video later....just keep in mind 360 is a pia dealing with file sizes and whatever you do don't scratch the lenses
r/gopro • Action camera for travel ->Upgrading from GoPro Max 😅
r/Insta360 • Several reasons why I will not buy X5 and will keep X4 ->I would avoid GoPro Hero 10 or beyond. Those are the only Hero cameras I have experience with and they're a huge PITA especially for motorcycling. It either doesn't turn on, doesn't record, or records with no audio ALL THE TIME. If you happen to notice it's not turning on, then you get to pull over, take your helmet off, unmount the camera, and fiddle with it until you figure out what's not working. Usually requiring you to remove and reinsert the battery. It's the most frustrating thing ever on a bike and I'd argue dangerous since you're preoccupied with the camera instead of your ride. I tried working with a Hero 10 and 11 for over 2 years before I swore them off forever. I recently switched to Insta360 and couldn't be happier. The Insta has literally not one time malfunctioned or not recorded when I pressed the button. I also have an old DJI Osmo Action that never had reliability issues. I would say any Osmo Action gen or the previous gen Insta360 (R One or something like that I cant' remember the name) would do the job well. If part of its job is dashcam you might also consider a 360 camera. You'll have way butter luck catching incidents with it than a regular action cam. I also have a GoPro 360 MAX camera. Unlike the Hero cameras, it's been great. It's still glitchy at times but nowhere near the regularity of the Hero cameras. It's kind long in the tooth now too so you may be able to find them on a good deal somewhere.
r/motorcyclegear • What camera is best for recording riding. ->We've been using a GoPro max and hero 8... Both have built in GPS. Some things to watch out for is overheating. We've gotten the best results using an external battery source, removing the internal battery, and taking off the battery door. This way we're able to record all day with no issues. With the max, even a short training flight might take up 10gig on the card. Also check out a program called "telemetry overlay". We use it to add custom dials to the videos. If you send me a message I can show you what we've been doing.
r/Gliding • Action camera: 360 or regular ->If you have the budget, the GoPro max has exceeded all of my expectations especially when it comes to the microphone. The waterproofing unfortunately isn’t too good like the other models.
r/gopro • Are GoPro's decent as a family camcorder? ->A: GoPro only recently released a version of "Quik" for desktop this year. it was actually a copy of their "Quik" for mobile app but with a lot LESS functionality. Due to fact very few people even bothered using it (why bother if the mobile app offered more functionality) GoPro decided not to continue throwing money at developing an app no one was using. B: People who edit using a desktop tend to want professional editing and this is why many use paid programs like Premier Pro or free professional quality editing programs like DaVinci Resolve. Not sure why you think the Hero 13 is not having "compatible features in areas" as that statement makes no sense. I have used the Hero 4, Hero 6, Hero 8, Hero Fusion, Hero Max, Hero 9, Hero 10, Hero 11, Hero 12 and Hero 13. I can say without a doubt that the Hero 13 is my favorite of these so far due to the amount of features it offers and the new lens options. If I had to choose between the Hero 12 and Hero 13, I'd choose the 13 with no hesitation.
r/gopro • I’ve never owned an action cam. Today I got paid and was about to buy the GoPro hero 12. But I’ve found people raging about the app no longer being on Mac (which I use)… and this is ending their loyalty to GoPro and buying elsewhere next upgrade. Where do I go from this as I had my heart set H12 ->Consider a GoPro Max. Batteries are bigger and last longer. Plus you can do some fun things with a 360 cam.
r/gopro • Suggestions for GoPro in extreme winter weather ->I will say that trying to get Gopros to work for me has been one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. Essentially, GoPro is like Windows. Nothing works, its buggy as hell, and essential feature are limited. I fly an airplane and I have been trying to implement a safe way to record onto multiple gopros. Everytime I come up with a solution after hours of thinking, it turns out to be not possible. My current failed solution is to use GoPro labs to set the cameras to power trigger on and off with usb. Set duration to 5m and have a relay set to 5.5m that powers the cameras off. The 5m video will save and I will just loose the 30sec video which is fine. I will then be able to record in 5m increments which is exactly what I want. However, this does not work on the Max. It only works on every other GoPro model since 8. On the Max the only way to set a duration is to schedule a time (Go Pro thinks this give the same result as setting a duration - did I mention Microsoft-like stupidity in decision making?). I have no idea what time I may want to record so the Max's scheduled duration is useless to me, and really just kind of a dumb feature. I could get the Remote just for the Max, but then I am fiddling with more than just one switch while I am flying. I also can't repair cameras with the Remote - it only reconnects to the one camera when powered back on and I cannot get out of the plane in mid air to repair everything. Dash cams lack stabalization so that will also not work. Insane that there is no solution as I am sure others are trying what I am. Motorcyclist have the same need to pair multiple cams. Airplanes however, will not work via wifi given all the interference. It has to be wired in most cases. The only option is to fiddle with GoPros while flying and there are more and more plane crashes as a result of this. FlyGirl is likely one who was fiddling with her cameras before crashing and killing her and her father, among others. I imagine GoPros moronic decision to make multi-cam use impossible(it can only re-pair with one camera) has also killed a few motorcyclists. Go Pro software is buggy garbage and their decision making horrendous. DJI or Insta, both have more solid software and better touchscreens, will hopefully give consumers all that they want. We just have to wait. For some reason no one sees multi-cam usage as being a need but I gaurantee you the demand is only going to grow. GoPro sucks!
r/gopro • Why so much Hate for GoPro now? ->Unfortunately i bought an x4 just before the x5 came out. It is still within the return window. Should I return it and get the x5 for $150 more? Prior to the x4 i was using a gopro max and the main reason I changed to x4 was battery life and easier editing workflow. I have been pleased in both regards.
r/Insta360 • Several reasons why I will not buy X5 and will keep X4 ->I love my X4 and i've had no issues whatsoever. Its definitely not the same quality as my Ace Pro 2 but it's still quite impressive as a 360 camera. I also had the gopro max for 5 years and also the X3 for a while, and the X4 is simply so much better than them both. The ability to zoom in on subjects in 8k is also much better than the X3. i've been more than happy with my battery life. Although I generally turn it on and off as needed and am not running it for hours at a time. i did pick up a spare battery but rarely use it... just my two cents.
r/Insta360 • Is the X4 really that bad? ->I purchased a sacrificial DSLR at a pawn shop for a price I wouldn't cry about if the camera went swimming. I wanted a good zoom for bird shots. This worked pretty well although the camera wasn't really fast enough and it spent more time out of the drybag than in. When my next cellphone had a good enough waterproof rating and reputation, I switched to using it almost exclusively. I like being able to leash it and store it in my PFD so it is always ready to whip out. I also have a GoPro Max. I find the editing process tedious. It really isn't great for capturing flora and fauna. It excels at providing footage for 1st person stories focused on the 6 feet around you. Some of the people I paddle with weren't too happy about being recorded.
r/Kayaking • What Camera Do You Use? ->If you're recording to try to improve performance, I highly recommend a 360 camera - I have the GoPro Max. Editing later is a bit more challenging, if you want a nice finished product to post. But the upside is you can look around as you replay the raw footage. We look at the sail trim, other boats, replay the start, etc. The perspective can be a little weird, but the ability to capture everything is amazing. Here's an example[example](https://youtu.be/JCJLDa8jpiY?si=BuFbtCIv4iFestMT) of a guy who uses a 360 camera - not my boat but he's much better at editing.
r/sailing • Best cameras for recording sailing races onboard? ->As other mentioned, the Osmo Pocket is worth looking into. You can't beat the GoPro's durability - I use my Max in the ocean, pools, and for crazy action, but it has that unmistakable action-cam look. I use my Osmo Pocket 1 for almost everything else - it makes things look almost cinematic, and once you get used to things like the fixed FOV and the timing for doing pans, it's awesome. The minor issues I have with the Pocket 1 have been taken care of in the 2 and 3, so to me it's a no-brainer. If you want to let your kids run around with the camera or it will take a beating - GoPro. But if you want some nice-looking, smooth footage - Osmo Pocket.
r/gopro • Are GoPro's decent as a family camcorder? ->I use my iPhone more than the GoPro but I have a Max and so the GoPro is a lot of fun when we are active. I can get videos of all my kids at the same time.
r/gopro • is gopro a good option for filming your kids? ->my max is incredible and i’m a moron — the stabilization is incredible and for live music (i’m usually filming myself from the ground in wide or super wide ) and it’s the coolest coolest footage — plus the microphones do a pretty great job
r/gopro • Why so much Hate for GoPro now? ->I've had a GoPro Hero 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10, as well as the Max. I've go over 2,000 skydives with GoPros on my helmet, including world records and jumps into the Blue Hole in Belize. I've taken them to every continent (including Antarctica) for running and scuba diving and overall travel. So I use GoPros a lot, and I use them in environments that are pretty tough on them. One thing that's been annoying is the heavy push to GoPro subscription. Their cloud storage is just awful. The money is better spent on something like Dropbox or Box. Their software has been pretty terrible too. Hardware wise, they've been hit or miss. Sometimes it's software, sometimes it's hardware. They can corrupt video files, do a weird "gets hot after charging and locks up so that you have to pull the batteries", they can stop mid recording. All of that with the proper recommended cards. Some have just been lemons, probably a bad solder or heatsink contact. Sometimes it's fixed in a firmware upgrade. They're notorious in the skydiving community. "Did you get it?" "No, it stopped recording 5 seconds in." "It froze up". That kind of thing. Not all the time, not even frequent, but enough that it's annoying. And each model seems to have their own little quirks. My Hero 7 and 10 has been solid for the most part. My 9.. not as much. My Max is a piece of shit. My next 360 camera will absolutely not be a Max, and probably won't be whatever they come out with next. My next action camera probably won't be a GoPro.
r/gopro • Why so much Hate for GoPro now? ->If it’s your first action camera, I typically recommend a regular action camera ( not a 360 camera) Most people will find the editing process and the quality of the 360 camera to be a pain, where as a regular action camera is just easier to use and much higher resolution. If you really need a specific 360 type shot, then maybe it’s worth the effort. I think 360 cameras are good additions if you already have a regular action camera and people seem to like the insta 360 x4. I have the GoPro max and it’s fine but I still use my GoPro 12 way more
r/Kiteboarding • Action Cameras ->I have the GoPro Max since many years and love it. The Inta360 options are all objectively better performing, but there's a couple reasons why I'm never changing to Insta360: - The GoPro is just cheaper: Buy it directly from GoPro and you get a pretty big discount with their annual subscription. - If I destroy my GoPro (as long as I don't lose it), I can have it replaced for 100 bucks. - The protective lenses for the GoPro, while crap quality compared to the Insta360 ones, are also very cheap. - With the quite cheap annual subscription, I can store unlimited video in the GoPro cloud (I've already got terabytes upon terabytes on there, it would cost a fortune to store that any other way). I'm just waiting for the damned GoPro Max 2 that is FINALLY supposedly supposed to release this year.
r/hiking • Any action camera recommendations for hiking/backpacking? ->GoPro 360 works fine mounted 5’ up my lines
