Get it! Its 389 on my local Costco. I have the 1st gen max used for mountain biking and travel. Was happy with the quality. Only down downside is the weight and non replaceable lens.

Honestly the jump isn't as dramatic as GoPro's marketing makes it seem. The 8K is nice but unless you're cropping heavy or doing professional work, the original Max still holds up really well. I'd probably wait for a price drop or until your current one actually starts giving you problems

Night and day for me, IMO. I used a Max 360 since 2022, and sold it along with my Hero 9 to pick up a Max 2 when I caught it on sale for $350. Aside from the technical upgrades, it just runs better. File transfers are faster, startup is quicker, navigating menu is snappier. I also love the 1/4-20 compatibility (even though I know that was an easy upgrade to diy for the OG Max). Also love the user replaceable lenses. For how I used my OG Max, I ALWAYS used the lens protecting bubbles, which noticeably impacted quality, esp in sunlight. Not having to use those now makes for better footage.

I can't believe the sensor size is still the same as the ancient original Max. Big disappointment...

I use my max 1 for car footage on track. Is the max 2 that much better than the max 1?

I use gopro max (360 degrees), so it makes no sense to mount it on the helmet unless I wanted to have half of fov covering my dark visor :p. I mount it on the bike, in the back on two points (clamped) and a selfie stick (around 1.5m, that is like 9 feet) - on the pillion peg and on the pillion holder). That has pros and cons. Last year, one of the clamps broke (the top one), the camera was mounted on a 4foot stick that then worked as a large broom sweeping behind me, I only noticed like 10 miles later. Gopro was completely destroyed. I got a new one under the replacement programe. So that is a potential problem :). On the other hand I ride nakeds and assumed that mounting a holder on my chin would be a bitch as far as wind buffeting me. It gets pretty windy and loud even without a mount. I never even considered how badly it would suck if I crashed, although that is an excellent point. The bike is speed triple, the helmet arai rx-7v.
