I still have a soft spot for the HERO 2. Couldn't bring myself to get rid of it. There was something special about it.

Is this one of those questions where you want to point out that GoPro has had flaws? Then it starts the "Self-Proclaimed" expert on action cameras on the internet to lay out all the issues they "READ" about. Then the one issue they share with someone else that is too often user error becomes that models flaw. This happens with consumer electronics and Reddit is often the home of this "me too" complaining. I don't excuse anyone including GoPro for bad products or bad support even during Covid and continue to research and shop new products almost constantly. I've said this a few times here but I buy electronics with the idea of returning them immediately if there is a flaw. I don't like to sit and wait to see if a firmware release will fix something or add a feature that was advertised. I return it and don't own it until it is working. With this thought in mind I can say I have experience with almost every model since the Hero 2 HD and still own it with one exception the Hero 8 because of the non-replaceable lens cover is not an "action" friendly decision by gopro. I own other camera brands as well and I don't regret buying any model. I sold the Hero 8 to a friend that will likely never scratch the camera so it is safe. The same advice to everyone shopping for a GoPro. With my own personal experience with GoPro I would buy the latest camera all over again every generation. I will say there is one model I am disappointed in and that's the Fusion. I used it quite often and enjoyed using it but was forgotten about when the Max was released. It still works just as good as the day the Max was released.

I have gone 4 generations between upgrades so far and it has always been a major improvement. 2-6-10-14 is my current plan unless someone convinces me I need to go 10-13

I've had a GoPro Hero 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10, as well as the Max. I've go over 2,000 skydives with GoPros on my helmet, including world records and jumps into the Blue Hole in Belize. I've taken them to every continent (including Antarctica) for running and scuba diving and overall travel. So I use GoPros a lot, and I use them in environments that are pretty tough on them. One thing that's been annoying is the heavy push to GoPro subscription. Their cloud storage is just awful. The money is better spent on something like Dropbox or Box. Their software has been pretty terrible too. Hardware wise, they've been hit or miss. Sometimes it's software, sometimes it's hardware. They can corrupt video files, do a weird "gets hot after charging and locks up so that you have to pull the batteries", they can stop mid recording. All of that with the proper recommended cards. Some have just been lemons, probably a bad solder or heatsink contact. Sometimes it's fixed in a firmware upgrade. They're notorious in the skydiving community. "Did you get it?" "No, it stopped recording 5 seconds in." "It froze up". That kind of thing. Not all the time, not even frequent, but enough that it's annoying. And each model seems to have their own little quirks. My Hero 7 and 10 has been solid for the most part. My 9.. not as much. My Max is a piece of shit. My next 360 camera will absolutely not be a Max, and probably won't be whatever they come out with next. My next action camera probably won't be a GoPro.

Are you using it for safety purposes or to record footage? Also do you have a bag to spend on a camera lol. I use a 2nd gen go pro mounted to my helmet. A used one is $20 and you'll need an extra battery if you're using it for longer than 2 hours. I think berm peak on YouTube does a camera review video [camera](https://youtu.be/xguUEFngK2E?si=exeZJgKNKHmStjBQ)

Many videos shown on YouTube are from the launch periods and are sponsored. Especially the DJI Action 5 was pushed pretty hard in my opinion. But they all make great videos. If you want low light performance I wouldn't go the gopro way. But in good light conditions I'd say the gopro still has the crown. For me the killer features though are 5.3k 8:7 and Gopro Labs which adds features no other action cam even comes close to. Those all help a lot for editing.

For me GoPro always had the best mic/audio balance. insta always sounded baseless and sucked at eliminating wind noise as well
