Despite some popular opinions on here. I really like my GoPro Hero 10 Black. Being new to scuba, focus on the diving and less on the camera. It can easily distract you from buoyancy, safety, your group, etc. Not speaking from a high horse here as I’m also fairly new. And I’ve caught myself being distracted by it. I now carry it to capture the really amazing stuff and less about trying to be a insta-scuba-hoe. (I’m a fat white guy, so no hopes there)
r/scuba • Best budget camera? ->I would avoid GoPro Hero 10 or beyond. Those are the only Hero cameras I have experience with and they're a huge PITA especially for motorcycling. It either doesn't turn on, doesn't record, or records with no audio ALL THE TIME. If you happen to notice it's not turning on, then you get to pull over, take your helmet off, unmount the camera, and fiddle with it until you figure out what's not working. Usually requiring you to remove and reinsert the battery. It's the most frustrating thing ever on a bike and I'd argue dangerous since you're preoccupied with the camera instead of your ride. I tried working with a Hero 10 and 11 for over 2 years before I swore them off forever. I recently switched to Insta360 and couldn't be happier. The Insta has literally not one time malfunctioned or not recorded when I pressed the button. I also have an old DJI Osmo Action that never had reliability issues. I would say any Osmo Action gen or the previous gen Insta360 (R One or something like that I cant' remember the name) would do the job well. If part of its job is dashcam you might also consider a 360 camera. You'll have way butter luck catching incidents with it than a regular action cam. I also have a GoPro 360 MAX camera. Unlike the Hero cameras, it's been great. It's still glitchy at times but nowhere near the regularity of the Hero cameras. It's kind long in the tooth now too so you may be able to find them on a good deal somewhere.
r/motorcyclegear • What camera is best for recording riding. ->Yeah it is overkill. Overkill in both price and features because though they’re great as action cameras, you don’t need the stabilization, high frame rates, and rugged design for your casual travel videos mate. If you really want one, you can get an older GoPro (Hero 9, 10, or 11) if you find a good deal since they still have solid stabilization and decent built-in mics (still relatively heavy when clipped to a cap, and after 30 minutes, you might feel the strain honestly) I’d suggest you check on the Insta360 GO 3, it’s tiny, weighs only 35g, and comes with a magnetic clip that can be attached to a cap more comfortably than a bulky GoPro. Otherwise, you could also check on the DJI Osmo Action 4 or Akaso Brave 7 LE too, all decent prices for your use case. You could try [10 Best Action Cameras to Invest in 2025: Full Guide and Review](https://alaskanarrows.com/10-best-action-cameras-to-invest-in-2025/) for other options too. Tldr: GoPro overkill, Insta360 more appropriate, can consider getting an older GoPro like the 9,10 or 11 if you can get a good price
r/gopro • I would like to buy an action camera, to clip it onto my baseballcap cuz I’ll travel a lot and want video footage for my family. ->No, the Hero is not a good choice for this. You’d be much better getting a used Hero10, 11, or 12. The new Hero camera is a starter camera for beginners who don’t need the highest quality. The camera has a very tiny lens / sensor, and footage is stabilized via GoPro’s mobile application. If you want a high quality action camera, those other models I listed will deliver higher results
r/gopro • GoPro Hero, worth it?? ->Hero 8, 9, 10 user here. Go for Insta360. But if you’re looking between GoPro and dji, go for dji. In other news, I’m looking to sell my hero 10, if anyone is interested (Kolkata or vicinity) let me know. I’ve got all accessories and a boatload of additional stuff for it. Asking for 20k.
r/indianbikes • Need suggestions for action camera. ->Been using a GP Hero10 for 2 years and haven't really had any issues so long as its in the dive housing. Color gets a bit distorted sometimes but general use and image stabilization has had some great shots. I usually just shoot a few seconds of video and snip a still out of it if I want a still shot.
r/scubadiving • Need help in choosing diving camera ->So i use my GoPro Hero 10, and have an external battery pack, and then i just use an waterproof case, cause their pretty good
r/airsoft • What cam would you suggest for Airsoft Helmet Cam Footage? ->I like my GoPro 13, my GoPro 10 broke and they replaced it with a 13 through my subscription. Only issue is the replacement took an actual month, a MONTH, and countless emails between support, honestly about 24 emails. As a direct comparison, my DJI drone broke and DJI replaced it via NEXT DAY AIR, after 2 emails. I literally had a claim submitted the night before and got my replacement the next afternoon. I have tracking numbers for both as proof. 30 days versus 1 day replacement times.
r/gopro • Why so much Hate for GoPro now? ->i've been really happy with my gopro, the price is right. i've had the 8 through 11. You can actually pull some great stills from video if you get lucky - i've managed to blow up some stills into large format prints to hang and they look fantastic. Lighting + basic editing skills makes a huge difference.
r/scuba • Advice on buying my 1st Underwater Camera ->Overheating is caused by using poor settings choices for the filming type being done. Set up your camera properly for the filming type and it won't overheat. There's no difference in low light between the Hero 10, 11, 12 and 13 since they all use the same sensor. The only difference is the amount of "Denoise" being selectable (or being able to disable it completely using labs) which means better opportunity to denoise in post. Frankly using the labs and post processing will get you better low light results with a Hero camera [https://snokefilm.no/labs/gopro-11-labs-max-video-quality](https://snokefilm.no/labs/gopro-11-labs-max-video-quality)
r/Cameras • Which action cam doesn't suck in low light? ->A: GoPro only recently released a version of "Quik" for desktop this year. it was actually a copy of their "Quik" for mobile app but with a lot LESS functionality. Due to fact very few people even bothered using it (why bother if the mobile app offered more functionality) GoPro decided not to continue throwing money at developing an app no one was using. B: People who edit using a desktop tend to want professional editing and this is why many use paid programs like Premier Pro or free professional quality editing programs like DaVinci Resolve. Not sure why you think the Hero 13 is not having "compatible features in areas" as that statement makes no sense. I have used the Hero 4, Hero 6, Hero 8, Hero Fusion, Hero Max, Hero 9, Hero 10, Hero 11, Hero 12 and Hero 13. I can say without a doubt that the Hero 13 is my favorite of these so far due to the amount of features it offers and the new lens options. If I had to choose between the Hero 12 and Hero 13, I'd choose the 13 with no hesitation.
r/gopro • I’ve never owned an action cam. Today I got paid and was about to buy the GoPro hero 12. But I’ve found people raging about the app no longer being on Mac (which I use)… and this is ending their loyalty to GoPro and buying elsewhere next upgrade. Where do I go from this as I had my heart set H12 ->I choose the dji action 4 (5 wasn't out yet) for the sole reason you can charge and record at the same time. GoPro you have to open the battery door. this is helpful because I carry backup battery with me for emergencies and a long cable that can reach from my backpack to my chest so I can ride and record uninterrupted without needing to switch batteries. it also allows me to record myself on a tripod charging while learning how to jump and etc. but for to pro, you have to take off the protective cover, open the battery door and charge it. at that point you can't mount it or the battery might fly out. oh and GoPro overheats for longer recordings. not sure if they fixed it on the newer recordings. my experience was with go pro hero 10.
r/mountainbiking • Which action cam to choose for 2025 ->Honestly, I love my Hero 10, but no. I used it for a while because I didn’t have another camera other my phone, which I didn’t want my battery dying quickly because of the camera use, and my a7 iv, which is not really a light-weight camera to get videos of your kids with. I upgraded last month to the DJI Pocket 3 and it is game changer! This is the camera I would recommend you purchase
r/gopro • is gopro a good option for filming your kids? ->Due to the quality of the products. I am now on my third GoPro 10, as the previous two failed for mostly the same reasons. But give GoPro some credit, as they replaced them without much issue. On the other hand, I still have my GoPro 4, which is over 10 years old and works perfectly—used it recently whilst waiting for the second replacement GoPro 10.
r/gopro • Why so much Hate for GoPro now? ->Honestly I'll still buy one, bc it seems like they have the best image, but I seriously babied my GoPro 10 and I left it in my suitcase for one flight instead of having it in my carry on, in a soft case, and when I got home, the screen was cracked. Like supposedly these are tough and durable, but my screen cracked from being in a hardshell suitcase and presumably having other luggage piled on top of it. I'm still salty about that.
r/gopro • Why so much Hate for GoPro now? ->I have a GoPro Hero 10, and I'm quite satisfied with it. I would recommend the DJI Osmo Action 4, that's also a good cam, with reasonable price tag.
r/Karting • Action Camera Recommendations? ->I would recommend getting a motorcycle drive recorder I don't know how common they are overseas but here in Japan a lot of bikes have them And that way you can record everything without worrying about battery life on your camera which means you can also set the quality on your chin cam so your videos look extract crisp also having a camera on the front of your helmet for hours and hours isn't the best experience. And for cameras I am currently using the GoPro hero 10 I get about one hour of recording with it set to 4K 30FPS using the endurance battery how ever if you're planning to use it during the night or want to connect an external mic might not the best option. I Know this is a Fairly expensive solution but I think this is your best solution
r/motorcyclegear • What camera is best for recording riding. ->I also don't get the hate, I recorded around 1TB of video with my GoPro and didn't have any issues, sure normal batteries are bad in the cold, but enduro batteries solve that. My Hero 10 overheated only once and I had it recording for like 20 minutes in like 40°C weather. Yeah they are greedy, they don't add almost anything new, but you don't have to buy the latest camera every year. I have a friend that uses Hero 5 and Hero 9 for years and he isn't planning on buying a new one, he also doesn't have issues with overheating and he is using them for POVs when he is flying and trust me the cockpit gets unbearably hot in the summer.
r/gopro • Why so much Hate for GoPro now? ->I have 2-10s, 5-11's, a 12, and a 13. My 13 is acting like a 13 year old child. 🤣 It doesn't listen to the voice commands and in general doesn't cooperate. The 11s & 12 work great. High quality and very dependable. I love using GoPro Labs for customizing the functions and controls.
r/gopro • What GoPro would you recommend? ->Have had a Hero 6,9,10. All of those have shit, grainy footage. The OA5 is by far better and I cannot emphasize enough the user experience gap. The startup time alone is worth dumping Go “pro”.
r/dji • Osmo Action 5 Pro, DO NOT believe the hype, it's really bad. ->I use my phone and GoPro 10, because I'm making videos to upload to YT. If I wasn't I'd just use my phone. I have a handheld grip for my phone that can also flip out to be a tripod, if I wanted to be in the video too. I'm on my 2nd GoPro, a replacement for the 1st one that had issues and had to be regularly factory reset. The biggest thing is the batteries don't last very long, I use 4 in an afternoon. If it was just for family videos, using your phone is easiest and you won't have surprises like loss of footage because of battery dying. Edited to add: Waterproof cases are available for phones, too. The other thing about GoPro is poor zoom capability.
r/gopro • Are GoPro's decent as a family camcorder? ->Most people would run a gopro as I think its the middle of the road for cams. I haven't seen anyone use a dji, but they are known for thier quality in cameras and footage. I have a gopro 10, but I think would have preferred the Dji in all honesty.
r/paintball • Barrel Action cam options ->Not the models you are talking about. But i have a Gorpro 10 black and honestly wish i got a Action 4. The extra addons you need for the gopros are annoying, the quality isnt... what i expected. Seeing side by side shots of the two the action 4 is way better. plus i just love DJI as a brand
r/dji • Action 4 vs Gopro 13 ->I have a gopro 10 with max lens mod, it does a pretty good job of getting POV ski footage. The max lens mod makes a big difference in how much you can capture in frame. When I was just running the go pro without it, the footage was often disappointing. The other big downside is the battery life in the cold is awful. The enduro batteries are better but I still have to bring multiple batteries with me to get through a full ski day. If I were to get another camera today and money wasn't an object, I'd probably get an insta360. Only thing I don't like is that it makes you look a bit like a unicorn. But that's just the cost of getting cool shots sometimes.
r/skiing • Does anyone have any recommendations for skiing cameras? ->I film and make hiking videos and have a ton of cameras. I do not like iPhone footage. Looks too sharpened and saturated to me. I used a GoPro for years. My current one is a GoPro Hero 11 Black and I absolutely love it. The 9 & 10 were buggy. The 8 was solid but the 11 is so much better. The 12 and 13 don’t have enough upgrades to justify. For better footage, set the field of view to linear. Gets rid of the fisheye look. Set sharpness and saturation each to -2. Set color profile to natural. Get smooth, steady shots and don’t swing it around like crazy. It’s a great starting point. Once you get the settings dialed in, you just need to press record for 99% of shots. So it’s easy to use. It’s durable and waterproof and small also. I don’t mount it to anything (unless I’m climbing or rappelling). I got a cheap tripod/extension handle off Amazon and just carry it. You won’t want all your footage to just be a straight ahead shot anyway. I just bought an action 4 but the verdict’s still out on that. If I were to recommend one camera it would be the DJI osmo pocket 3. I absolutely love it. But it’s pricey and if you’re starting out the GoPro will do good enough.
r/CampingandHiking • Help finding a camera for hiking and camping ->I bought one a few years back hero 10, it lasted barely over a month. It overheated several times while using, it broke because I tested it in the water and shorted. Customer service is terrible and there is no existing management to get help if needed. DJI is probably the better choice IMO
r/gopro • Is GoPro that bad? ->I have a GoPro Hero 10 and it's garbage. The first one I had started powering off due to "low battery" when the batteries were fully charged. Tried replacement batteries (newer white cap vs. blue cap) and had the same results. It was replaced (at a cost because it was just over 1 year old), and the replacement is doing the same thing. I spent money on new batteries, different memory cards, etc. trying to troubleshoot - those were all a waste. Nice to hear some people have had good luck, but I'd run away from the GoPro cameras unless you get an older model where they seemed to be of higher quality. My $0.02.
r/Karting • Action Camera Recommendations? ->https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNd1LL5Sp/ I think I’m a person that can honestly tell you this since I had a X2,3 and now the 4 also have ever since used a Hero 8,9,10 in combination with it. You can get awesome results with the X4, also low light isn’t as bad as people say it is, yeah you lose some sharpness and get grain, but honestly we have that problem with action cams ever since they exist, the ace pro 2 has insane low light performance but only because of its ai processing which in my opinion over sharpens the image. I can just say that for me the X4 is a massive upgrade when it comes to creating 9:16 and 16:9 at the same time, workflow is awesome and yes, the app really is as great as people advertise it. I personally never had any errors or weird problems since using it for about 6 months. I usually recrop the 360 footage it wether landscape or portrait, export it to Luma fusion studio drop in my hero 10 footage and use multicam to sync the videos via. Footage or audio, works like a charm.
r/Insta360 • Is the X4 really that bad? ->I have a GoPro 10 that I use. I like that’s its waterproof and that it has cases that make it float if dropped in water. I also like the various options for harnesses and mounts since it’s a well known brand.
r/CampingandHiking • Help finding a camera for hiking and camping ->Should be able to pick up a used GoPro 10. The camera still kicks ass. Also, it should be way under $200.
r/gopro • What's the best action camera I can get for 200$ or less (please be less) ->as other have said, gopro and dive housing. you can get great deals on previous generations. get the dive housing from official gopro brand/website. i love my hero10, does 4k 60 fps and that’s all i need. super easy to use and so much fun to watch afterwords.
r/scuba • Need Dive Camera Recommendations Limit $500 ->Skip GoPro, it overheats and breaks. My 10 did at least. I have a phone housing that I'm somewhat happy with that lets me use the screen underwater, that is quite convenient
r/scuba • Advice on buying my 1st Underwater Camera ->I’ve got a GoPro 10 and insta360. Both with underwater housings. GoPro is better at taking photos hands down. And crystal clear videos. But it’s not that great in low light UW photography. Good for silhouettes. Insta360 is good for looking cool with you swimming holding it in front of you. Video is pretty good, but not great. Photos not so much. Best budget UW photography camera right now is the OM TG-7.
r/scuba • Best camera for raw photos and videos? ->used nikon with 100ft/30m rating if you want still pictures, used tg5 and housing probably too hard to find for 500 gopro 10 or 11 and a stick if you want video, add some backscatter filters if desired
r/scuba • Need Dive Camera Recommendations Limit $500 ->I'd recommend a GoPro (need underwater housing for it and the little stick). They're up to the 13 now, but even a 9 or 10 will deliver great results for that. No need to get into the inky endless abyss of underwater cameras quite yet
r/scuba • Best budget camera? ->The camera works fine, but there's always people who just love to complain, I have the 8, 10 and 13 all works just fine. I love it. This is more like a Sony vs canon. Both cameras for a professional photographer will have the same thing: manual mode.
r/gopro • Why so much Hate for GoPro now? ->I've had a GoPro Hero 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10, as well as the Max. I've go over 2,000 skydives with GoPros on my helmet, including world records and jumps into the Blue Hole in Belize. I've taken them to every continent (including Antarctica) for running and scuba diving and overall travel. So I use GoPros a lot, and I use them in environments that are pretty tough on them. One thing that's been annoying is the heavy push to GoPro subscription. Their cloud storage is just awful. The money is better spent on something like Dropbox or Box. Their software has been pretty terrible too. Hardware wise, they've been hit or miss. Sometimes it's software, sometimes it's hardware. They can corrupt video files, do a weird "gets hot after charging and locks up so that you have to pull the batteries", they can stop mid recording. All of that with the proper recommended cards. Some have just been lemons, probably a bad solder or heatsink contact. Sometimes it's fixed in a firmware upgrade. They're notorious in the skydiving community. "Did you get it?" "No, it stopped recording 5 seconds in." "It froze up". That kind of thing. Not all the time, not even frequent, but enough that it's annoying. And each model seems to have their own little quirks. My Hero 7 and 10 has been solid for the most part. My 9.. not as much. My Max is a piece of shit. My next 360 camera will absolutely not be a Max, and probably won't be whatever they come out with next. My next action camera probably won't be a GoPro.
r/gopro • Why so much Hate for GoPro now? ->Just get urself a gopro, 10s and 11s are relatively cheap and have nearly all the features and quality of the newer cams.
r/underwaterphotography • Best Video Cameras For Underwater ->I’ve had problems with my Hero 10. Is list it out, but everyone would either call me a bot or paid shill for Insta360 or DJI.
r/gopro • Why so much Hate for GoPro now? ->Get a GoPro. I have a Hero 10 and an X3. I use the GoPro all the time.
r/Insta360 • Get an action cam or just use my phone? ->I bought a Hero 10 a few months ago for $200. I thought it was an excellent all around camera and excellent for snorkeling
r/gopro • Best action camera for scuba diving and snorkeling? ->Go pro has insurance for cheap replacements. Dji is £400 a crack
r/fpv • Do people use DJI action cams ->I use GoPro 10/12 and insta360 Ace pro 1 for scuba. Both the GoPros over heat at 4k60 at about 45/55 minutes depending on screen ratio I'm using. That's also continuous use. I have an aluminum case that uses exterior battery which helps. But that is still less time then the dive. The insta360 lasts about hour in it's dive case at 4k60. I have had it go as long as 1hr 10m at 4k60 as well. The insta360 acepro is king of the night dives. Especially if your gonna do any UV light shots or do the Turks and Caicos glow worms. The gopros will do good if you oversaturate the dive with bright lights, but then your negatively affecting your videos. Night life will stay away, or you'll blind a aggressive barracuda or turtle, etc... I don't use the insta360 as a primary for lack of attachments. Repeating myself here, but I have the t housing power case. It fits the GoPro plus the digi refuel battery pack and the case goes down to 800 ft (or something like that l, forgot the actual number since I ain't never going that deep anyway). It has magnetic red filters and magnetic macro lense I can easily pop on and off during the dive as needed, and with GoPro labs I can change the settings underwater with QR code plastic cards I made. So let's say I swim across a photogenic whatever on the floor, i can flash card the GoPro for full macro settings, pop off red filter, pop on macro lense, turn on lights and I'm good to go. Then do exact opposite and continue my dive. The ace pro doesn't have all the other bells and whistles yet. It does have its own dice case, and you can the flip filters for it, but those for me have been a pain for various reasons. I should mention the new ace pro 2, has a function where the hard button can be programmed to do any function. Like their zoom, which the GoPro zoom loses resolution the ace pros do not. But I have not used the ace pro 2, one reviewer had an instance of the camera negatively reacting to purple light, which is close to the UV light I use on coral reefs. Which if you never done I highly recommend. Sorry for the wall of text. Cheers
r/gopro • Best action camera for scuba diving and snorkeling? ->If your budget is approx. $200, then I would recommend buying a used Hero 8/9/10/11 instead. This will give you WAY more value for your money. Yes, the small Hero camera might be designed for beginners, but I honestly see no sence in it. The Hero Black is not that complicated to handle either, the image quality is better, and it offers way more options.
r/gopro • Thoughts on new small hero? ->If your budget is approx. $200, then I would recommend buying a used Hero 8/9/10/11 instead. This will give you WAY more value for your money. Yes, the small Hero camera might be designed for beginners, but I honestly see no sence in it. The Hero Black is not that complicated to handle either, the image quality is better, and it offers way more options.
r/gopro • Thoughts on new small hero? ->I've been using every GoPro since gopro 7 (first release of the hyper smooth) up until 12. With 12 I've used it with the max lens mod. Couple months ago I got the DJI action 5 and I am very happy with it. I haven't used the fov lens for DJI though Features that GoPro is better - * Color quality under good lighting - you just can't beat GoPro with this no matter what. Go Pro looks incredible under good lighting. But with MTB, especially during the summer when all leaves are out, that's not exactly the situation always * Resolution - kinda similar as the first point but it does have 5.2k vs dji 4k. Not sure if that matters much to you * Stabilization - this is very minor but the GoPro stabilization is more natural but osmo Action 5 is still very good * App requirement - for DJI, you have to activate your camera with their app to use it. With go pro, no registration is necessary to use it. To some people that's a deal breaker What I like about DJI - * Battery life - even with GoPro Enduro batteries, I was getting maybe an hour with my settings. DJI battery is literally lasting me 1.5 hr with one single battery. I only carry one extra battery with me now. * D-Log M color / LUT - if you are into grading color this helps a lot. I shoot using their log settings, and apply LUT available online and it is like 90% close to what I want the color to be. * App - I've also used insta360 x3 and insta360 go 3 as well. Out of all apps I used, DJI one was the best one. Its so quick to grab a short footage out and post it on social Media. And you can even apply that color grading through the app directly if recorded with D-Log * Magnet mount - I record vertical videos frequently for short forms. It works great with switching the ratio or even quickly changing settings. Also super easy to put it on like a selfie stick or a tripod * Wind noise - I used to put a little dead cat on GoPro to reduce wind noise. The problem was that I couldn't use GoPro for any under water activity like that. I wasn't gonna keep on peeling it off and put a new one on every time. I wasn't a fan of the big foam around it either. I got the DJI mini mic with it and it pretty much eliminated all wind noise. Its amazing and now I can easily use the camera under water. * Software stability - I used to lose footage all the time because video gets corrupted during the recording and find out when I'm home. So I got into the habit of stopping recording every time I stop on the trail to reduce this corruption. With DJI action, I haven't had any corrupted videos and I just let it record all the time * Filename - it could be minor, but GoPro file name sucks. DJIs file name way more sense * Price - I got the package that comes with the 2 extra battery, battery charger, stick, for like $360. DM me if you have any specific questions
r/MTB • Is DJI the new best action camera? ->As others said any GoPro from 11-13 (I would even say starting with Gpro 9) would work. I would also recommend the gorpox Max (360) great for something like shark cage where you can re-fesme the video later....just keep in mind 360 is a pia dealing with file sizes and whatever you do don't scratch the lenses
r/gopro • Action camera for travel ->Simple. 5.3k resolution. Allows you to crop in on videos and gives you the highest video quality. Sure Ace Pro 2 has 8k....at 30fps. 8K is just overkill and you won't get any decent looking slow motion out of 30fps. 5.3k is the sweet spot. If you want to do color correcting which the Ace Pro does automatically, you can easily tweak that in editing it's very simple. Until another action camera comes out with 5.3k resolution it's GoPro for me. Then hopefully the next GoPro will have 5.3k 120fps so we can get even higher quality slow motion. If you're shooting underwater get an AOI UWL-O3 lens attachment for it for increased clarity and ability to focus at closer range too.
r/gopro • Any reason to get the hero13 over the ace pro 2? ->Are you specifically referring to the entry-level Hero camera released this year or GoPro's flagship Hero Black series? If the former, I'd probably steer clear. If the latter, hell yea - GoPros are awesome.
r/gopro • GoPro Hero Camera Thoughts? ->
