It fits the GoPro plus the digi refuel battery pack and the case goes down to 800 ft (or something like that l, forgot the actual number since I ain't never going that deep anyway). It has magnetic red filters and magnetic macro lense I can easily pop on and off during the dive as needed"

I have the GoPro 10 and I really like it for snorkeling and freediving but it has many flaws that the GoPro 13 still has: - The battery lasts half as long as the competition - If it gets hot it turns off and heats up very easily - The app is garbage, I have been paying 50 euros a year since I bought it just for the cloud storage but it is very slow to upload and download files or simply view them even if you are connected to the router by cable. - The competition uses some improvements like automatic color correction with AI (insta360) which really works amazing for diving videos - Automatic GoPro videos are simply taking random pieces of several clicks and putting meaningless music on them - They don't pay attention to the forum or anything you tell them to improve, m. The heating problems have been going on since the first GoPro and something as simple as letting you choose the cover of a video by choosing a frame from the video itself does not let you do it. Anyway, you send them ideas to improve and they don't respond. Honestly, in a few years I will change cameras and go to the competition if GoPro doesn't improve and it doesn't look like it will do so.

Despite some popular opinions on here. I really like my GoPro Hero 10 Black. Being new to scuba, focus on the diving and less on the camera. It can easily distract you from buoyancy, safety, your group, etc. Not speaking from a high horse here as I’m also fairly new. And I’ve caught myself being distracted by it. I now carry it to capture the really amazing stuff and less about trying to be a insta-scuba-hoe. (I’m a fat white guy, so no hopes there)

[Youtube referentie](https://youtube.com/@blogisodespresents?feature=shared)

Yeah it is overkill. Overkill in both price and features because though they’re great as action cameras, you don’t need the stabilization, high frame rates, and rugged design for your casual travel videos mate. If you really want one, you can get an older GoPro (Hero 9, 10, or 11) if you find a good deal since they still have solid stabilization and decent built-in mics (still relatively heavy when clipped to a cap, and after 30 minutes, you might feel the strain honestly) I’d suggest you check on the Insta360 GO 3, it’s tiny, weighs only 35g, and comes with a magnetic clip that can be attached to a cap more comfortably than a bulky GoPro. Otherwise, you could also check on the DJI Osmo Action 4 or Akaso Brave 7 LE too, all decent prices for your use case. You could try [10 Best Action Cameras to Invest in 2025: Full Guide and Review](https://alaskanarrows.com/10-best-action-cameras-to-invest-in-2025/) for other options too. Tldr: GoPro overkill, Insta360 more appropriate, can consider getting an older GoPro like the 9,10 or 11 if you can get a good price

Yes, I regularly do night photography with my GoPros - Hero10 through 13, as well as 360 cameras. But I want to stress that your subject needs to also be stationary - it’s not like you can film wildlife with this approach. But if you’re just trying to capture trees or landscapes, depending on how much moon & starlight you have, this might work fine. Can you give more detail about the types of images you want to capture?

Been using a GP Hero10 for 2 years and haven't really had any issues so long as its in the dive housing. Color gets a bit distorted sometimes but general use and image stabilization has had some great shots. I usually just shoot a few seconds of video and snip a still out of it if I want a still shot.

A GoPro 10 it's a great choice, maybe the 9. There is also the DJI Action 2. Not all second hand action cameras got beat out, some people use them gently like some sort of car dashcam or a vlogging camera. I don't recommend that much brands like Akaso, the image quality is good but other features like stabilization and sound quality are inferior compared to GoPros.

I would recommend the GoPro 10, video quality will be pretty similar among those cameras. You won't find day and night difference. The biggest advantage of the GoPro it's the sheer number of accesories available. Every mount you need like for cars, motorcycles, mountain bikes, etc... You will find it easy for GoPros.

I think **Gopro Hero 8 is the best action camera** in 2024 (since 2019) but mine died and I can't replace it. I tried : \- Gopro 10 : very very very bad Gopro. Only good in full sunlight (same for 9 I guess). \- Gopro 12 : very bad underwater (my main use), but very detailed in full sunlight and Ok otherwise. Vegetation is strange with it... Distortion are bad, especially when you turn the camera. Stabilization and timewarp aren't reliable in low light. Gopro 8 is still my favorite, but in full sunlight, Gopro 12 can be interresting. And 8:7 is really useful. A good camera to watch your videos in VR with a lot of details. Not really interresting otherwise. \- Osmo Action 4 : a lot better than Gopro 12 underwater (less particles, more details on corals, better colors). Better in low light to catch the true colors and light, but not as detailed, even in low light to watch videos in VR. You have to set ISO manually all the time. \- Insta360 Ace Pro seems to be Ok. I don't really know (I only tried it indoors). It may be better than Osmo Action 4, but focal lenght is too short, so everything close to you is blurry... \>>>>>>> Gopro Hero 8 is the best to film your vacation at sea. It always give good colors and image. You never really have to configure it (except to film a color changing fish or cephalopods, but it doesn't happen very often...) It capture some important details even in low light, without making noise. It's good (not perfect but better than others) with vegetation (even tropical) in daylight. Timewarp works all the time (auto mode isn't perfect underwater but it doesn't really matter because you don't need it underwater). It's small and light. Hero 5 session isn't as good, but it's the lightest and smallest too (60gr), very useful. \----- Concerning VR camera, I only tried Samsung Gear 360. I'll try Insta X4 soon but it's not the same thing. I'll use it for VR, but it can't replace a standard action cam, because it would be blurry

The newest DJI is much better than the newest and more expensive GoPro for diving videos. It has a larger Sensor. That's the area that will improve most likely. My GoPro 10 is significantly darker and grainer than my DJI action 5. The 10 uses the same sensor as whatever the newest one does too.

I’d get a GoPro and underwater housing long before I bring my phone under with me. I thought about buying a case like divevolk for when I’m hanging out on decompression stops (long boring stops underwater after deep diving) to read and watch movies but my practical consideration is that I need to have my phone on the surface because my family needs to hear from me and what if there was an emergency or something happened that I needed a phone, but my phone was dropped or flooded because of a case failure I’d be very upset.. I think my solution will be to get used phone from eBay that I don’t activate a cellular plan for but use it for it’s native functions like the camera, and bring that underwater with me. But a GoPro underwater if you drop it you haven’t lost all your photos, contacts, text history and so on so forth Edit: get a GoPro Hero 10, 11 or 12 (better price, and they don’t over heat as much as the new ones under water) with a dive housing

I like my GoPro 13, my GoPro 10 broke and they replaced it with a 13 through my subscription. Only issue is the replacement took an actual month, a MONTH, and countless emails between support, honestly about 24 emails. As a direct comparison, my DJI drone broke and DJI replaced it via NEXT DAY AIR, after 2 emails. I literally had a claim submitted the night before and got my replacement the next afternoon. I have tracking numbers for both as proof. 30 days versus 1 day replacement times.

Wannabe, limited-audience YouTuber here I've been having fun trying to put together vacation, hiking, beach videos to keep memories and share them with friends and family. I've been trying to keep my budget small, and gear light, since I'm not a professional - at least until I learn enough so that I can do some of it professionally or that I find that my gear is limiting me significantly. (I'm a middle-aged man who already has a career in IT). That being said, you could most definitely get away with just an OP3 for video and a smartphone w possibly a good phone camera for stills (especially for vlogging). It all depends on what type of footage you take. I'm no cinematographer (as evidenced by the amount of useless footage I create) but for travel/adventure I would also include one, possibly two, action cams. There's a couple of reasons for this: First, while the OP3 is small, light, and does well in low light, I find to truly put an engaging video together that is more than just dialogue, it takes knowledge, experience, and sometimes luck, to get great clips - often requiring staging of a scene or subjects and planning out shots. Second, the OP3 isn't weather resistant or rugged at all without adding bulky cases that negate its small firm-factor. Action cams have the advantage of being rugged even though their low light stabilization sucks. they also have the advantage of replaceable batteries that you can swap out on the fly when filming for long periods of time without worrying about constantly keeping the charge on the OP3 up. Sometimes it's much faster and easier to slap my GoPro on a pole (to get both me and the background) and film myself than to really setup the shot with the OP3. I have a GoPro10 and an Insta360X3 that I'm pretty happy with for certain well-lit situations. I use the GoPro often for when I want something quick and simple, or doing something very active where the camera needs to be mounted someplace in motion. I very often have it clipped to my backpack strap while on vacation and it's especially good for capturing background footage while being MUCH more discreet than a mounted OP3. The Insta360 is the opposite of the OP3 really. It's best use is when you're filming things at least 4 feet away from you (for 360 video stitching) and you don't have to really setup your shot at all as the camera catches EVERYTHING at once. The studio software is pretty great for dynamically reframing the 360 video and flattening it out before using in a standard editor. Every good capture I get with the X3 usually results in two videos - one, a video clip of my target (which could include tracking or just keyframing different things) and two, a selfie video/audio track of my reactions dialogues, etc. The X3 is great because you don't have to setup the shot and you can do everything else in post. ... but it's very noticeable when you use it and often gets stares from bystanders. One other thing I've noticed is that many attractions no longer want people filming and being a distraction/disruption to others - more and more places I've noticed now ban photography with selfie/telescoping sticks... which of course is pretty much the best way to use a 360 camera. Whoa that was long. Hopefully some of that was useful.

>How are they at long term? These are entry-level action cams from generic brands (imported from China and stamped logo) so we cannot expect long term durability. I have done plenty of research on budget cameras upto 12k but I ended up getting Gopro Hero 10 from US through a friend (Cost me 14k on KEH store) because I wanted super-wide lens for moto logging. Two models I said above are good at 6k price point and if you can spend little more then Sjcam SJ6 Legend or IZI One Plus. Sjcam makes good quality products but they are selling outdated models here. >And I found some more cameras like these, are they also good enough? https://amzn.in/d/3Q2QCGV This is more suitable for handheld vlogs and bicycle as shown in pictures but it might be odd when mounted to helmet. Also it has fixed battery and no stabilization (c100+ does).

I am going to assume you dont have an action camera now and give advice based on that.... What I would do.... Buy a cheap action camera ace pro/hero 10/osmo 4 etc.... Get used to using it and editing it, and see how many times you go "shit I wish I caught that" That will give you the decision on if you want a 360 cam If you do go down that route, either wait for the DJI OSMO 360 (after real reviews come out) OR Wait for the X6, the X5 is good but its not a massive jump like the next iteration will be. The one great feature the x5 has is that it outputs 2 video files 1x 360 image and 1x front facing file, so if you just need it to be an action cam, it does that too. I had my gopro 12 on my helmet and my x4 on my handlebars and as I was riding a car on the other side of the road hit another car and hit someone on the pavement, I swung my head round but missed most of it with my helmet cam, but the x4 caught all of it and that was used in an insurance claim. So for me, not having to make sure I am pointing the right way will always be the benefit.

Overheating is caused by using poor settings choices for the filming type being done. Set up your camera properly for the filming type and it won't overheat. There's no difference in low light between the Hero 10, 11, 12 and 13 since they all use the same sensor. The only difference is the amount of "Denoise" being selectable (or being able to disable it completely using labs) which means better opportunity to denoise in post. Frankly using the labs and post processing will get you better low light results with a Hero camera [https://snokefilm.no/labs/gopro-11-labs-max-video-quality](https://snokefilm.no/labs/gopro-11-labs-max-video-quality)

GoPro Hero 13 with the Macro Lens Mod. Then add the media mod and a Rode Wireless Go 2 microphone system. Frankly though I like using the right tools for the job. When making "review" videos what require overhead close up shots, I'm using a good quality webcam (which is going to work far better indoors in low light than an action camera). For flying, I'm usually using a multicam setup with 2 X GoPro Hero 13's, a GoPro Hero 10 and GoPro Hero 11.

The GoPro Hero 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 are all the same size and use mostly the same accessories (HB series lenses for the Hero 13 are not backwards compatible, nor are the Hero 13 batteries backwards compatible). Dive cases and mounts are all the same. If you have a dive case for a Hero 9 or 10, it will fit the Hero 11, Hero 12 and Hero 13. The Hero 9 and 10 have the same sensor. The Hero 11, 12 and 13 also all have the same sensor which is just a taller version of the sensor used in the Hero 9 and 10. The proper settings will make all the difference when filming in different lighting scenarios. Filming in a flat profile and color grading in post is the best option for Hero 11 and earlier. Filming in GPLog and color grading in post will work best for the Hero 12 and 13. The GoPro Labs firmware has several tweeks (including a DIVE mode) for helping with stabilization underwater as well as color balance for the temp (color) of the water. Your sharpness should also be set to low when recording.

Supposedly the 8 was made during covid and has so-and-so issues, **No, the 8 was made long before covid and it was a great camera. However it did have a "hot pixel" issue with the sensor that would result in fixed blue or red (or both) dots during low light footage.** 9 had blah blah issues, **The 9 was the Covid camera, delayed multiple times and just plain didn't work upon release. There's a well known audio clicking issue when using the in camera mics and it was the last camera to use the GP1 processor (which meant the camera was underpowered and lacked certain abilities such as clipping full resolution footage and being able to offload those clips in camera).** 10 freezing, **The 10 doesn't have freezing issues, it was the first camera to use the GP2 processor and it is a rock solid camera. "Freezing" comes from having a corrupt SD card which hasn't been repaired.** 11 corruption problems, **The Hero 11 improved upon the rock solid reliability of the Hero 10 and added even more features such as a taller 8:7 sensor, 10bit color and "in camera" night effects. Once again, people using corrupt SD cards or incorrect SD cards would suffer issues.** 12 overheating, **The 12 had all new firmware written for it that took full advantage of the GP2 processor. This enabled bluetooth audio, HDR video, timecode support etc. The issue with overheating is the same with all action cameras (regardless of brand). People have no idea how to film or set up their camera's and will often use the highest "action" settings available as they go for a "walk" or stand around "Fishing" and then wonder why their camera overheats.** 13 becomes a homewrecker... **The 13 is GoPro's most user friendly camera yet. All new thermal design, all new automatic lens detection, Upgraded Wifi, Upgraded Bluetooth, HLG HDR and more. It's GoPro's best camera yet with some amazing features added to the labs firmware.** Maybe 14 will make you commit tax fraud. **If only it were capable of making people smarter and doing better research about camera's........**

I choose the dji action 4 (5 wasn't out yet) for the sole reason you can charge and record at the same time. GoPro you have to open the battery door. this is helpful because I carry backup battery with me for emergencies and a long cable that can reach from my backpack to my chest so I can ride and record uninterrupted without needing to switch batteries. it also allows me to record myself on a tripod charging while learning how to jump and etc. but for to pro, you have to take off the protective cover, open the battery door and charge it. at that point you can't mount it or the battery might fly out. oh and GoPro overheats for longer recordings. not sure if they fixed it on the newer recordings. my experience was with go pro hero 10.

I’m a gear head, I own a ton of camera equipment. You don’t need the latest to document you trips. I’m still using an older GoPro hero 9 and it takes fantastic 4k 60FPS video. Look into the older generations. The processing power jumped between the 9 and 10th generation GoPro. Recommendation **If you can find a GoPro hero 10 that would be the best value.** The hero12 didn’t have gps, so I’d avoid that generation if that feature is important to you. *Go pro alternatives:* I own a insta360 go3s. It’s great for POV, ultra small. I clip it to my hat. Max resolution is 4k 30FPS. If you’re going to do fast paced activities like racing you may find the framerate at the max resolution to be too slow. Insta360 X5 is a 360 camera. Theres a learning curve to the software. But provides the ability to reframe footage. Quality of the video will not be as good as a standard action camera. DJI osmo action, it’s a solid choice as well. Bit rate is lower then a GoPro, but if you’re not a professional you won’t know the difference

Due to the quality of the products. I am now on my third GoPro 10, as the previous two failed for mostly the same reasons. But give GoPro some credit, as they replaced them without much issue. On the other hand, I still have my GoPro 4, which is over 10 years old and works perfectly—used it recently whilst waiting for the second replacement GoPro 10.

Honestly I'll still buy one, bc it seems like they have the best image, but I seriously babied my GoPro 10 and I left it in my suitcase for one flight instead of having it in my carry on, in a soft case, and when I got home, the screen was cracked. Like supposedly these are tough and durable, but my screen cracked from being in a hardshell suitcase and presumably having other luggage piled on top of it. I'm still salty about that.

I would recommend getting a motorcycle drive recorder I don't know how common they are overseas but here in Japan a lot of bikes have them And that way you can record everything without worrying about battery life on your camera which means you can also set the quality on your chin cam so your videos look extract crisp also having a camera on the front of your helmet for hours and hours isn't the best experience. And for cameras I am currently using the GoPro hero 10 I get about one hour of recording with it set to 4K 30FPS using the endurance battery how ever if you're planning to use it during the night or want to connect an external mic might not the best option. I Know this is a Fairly expensive solution but I think this is your best solution

I also don't get the hate, I recorded around 1TB of video with my GoPro and didn't have any issues, sure normal batteries are bad in the cold, but enduro batteries solve that. My Hero 10 overheated only once and I had it recording for like 20 minutes in like 40°C weather. Yeah they are greedy, they don't add almost anything new, but you don't have to buy the latest camera every year. I have a friend that uses Hero 5 and Hero 9 for years and he isn't planning on buying a new one, he also doesn't have issues with overheating and he is using them for POVs when he is flying and trust me the cockpit gets unbearably hot in the summer.

Well the 360 would make sense when surfing, however under water footage will suck. For these purpose anything from the Hero 10 would get you there. The 8:7 ratio would help framing your shot on the surfboard, so I'd recommend going for the 12 or 13.

Post some example videos? From my memory, hero 7 was the first camera with hypersmooth, the video stabilization feature. Every camera after that has an upgraded level of hypersmooth. I just got a hero 10 and it did great on a 40mph scooter and for a long dirtbike ride. I would look into a slightly more recent hero camera to try out. From google: "GoPro's HyperSmooth stabilization feature is available on HERO7 Black and newer cameras. Specifically, the HERO7 Black introduced HyperSmooth, and subsequent models like the HERO8, HERO9, HERO10, and HERO11 have built upon it with versions like HyperSmooth 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0"

I have a Hero 10. It was my first action cam and it does a fine job. I also don’t use it much but it’s good for a follow cam when riding with my kids. I have a chest mount too. I like that pov better than the helmet mount. You just have to remember to check your camera angle regularly because if it gets bumped too hard you’ll miss the action. The main reason I don’t use it more is the time and effort and storage space needed to turn your recordings into something others can watch.

Because the GoPro is better in every aspect except low light performance and Bluetooth connection. I have two 12’s, a 10, and an 8. All quality 4K or better footage. DJI can’t compare it looks like a cheap Ali express camera quality. I need my cameras to be all weatherproof and drop resistant, just rugged and durable. Trust me, I’ve been trying to replace them with DJI for years. But they just don’t even compare yet.

I have their drones, their wireless microphones.. almost bought their gimbal but I went with insta360..I REALLY want their Osmo pocket 3 to replace the insta 360 but their price… eh.. I have seen countless reviews comparing the action 5 and GoPro 13,12, etc. Their video quality is getting there, but it still looks like a Ring 4k/surveillance camera instead of an action camera. GoPro just always nails it, even though the quality looks the same across the GoPro 10-13. I like the GoPro 11’s quality best. I had it before sending it in and getting the 12’s for $108.. Their enduro battery is also game changer.

I film and make hiking videos and have a ton of cameras. I do not like iPhone footage. Looks too sharpened and saturated to me. I used a GoPro for years. My current one is a GoPro Hero 11 Black and I absolutely love it. The 9 & 10 were buggy. The 8 was solid but the 11 is so much better. The 12 and 13 don’t have enough upgrades to justify. For better footage, set the field of view to linear. Gets rid of the fisheye look. Set sharpness and saturation each to -2. Set color profile to natural. Get smooth, steady shots and don’t swing it around like crazy. It’s a great starting point. Once you get the settings dialed in, you just need to press record for 99% of shots. So it’s easy to use. It’s durable and waterproof and small also. I don’t mount it to anything (unless I’m climbing or rappelling). I got a cheap tripod/extension handle off Amazon and just carry it. You won’t want all your footage to just be a straight ahead shot anyway. I just bought an action 4 but the verdict’s still out on that. If I were to recommend one camera it would be the DJI osmo pocket 3. I absolutely love it. But it’s pricey and if you’re starting out the GoPro will do good enough.

I have a GoPro Hero 10 and it's garbage. The first one I had started powering off due to "low battery" when the batteries were fully charged. Tried replacement batteries (newer white cap vs. blue cap) and had the same results. It was replaced (at a cost because it was just over 1 year old), and the replacement is doing the same thing. I spent money on new batteries, different memory cards, etc. trying to troubleshoot - those were all a waste. Nice to hear some people have had good luck, but I'd run away from the GoPro cameras unless you get an older model where they seemed to be of higher quality. My $0.02.

The latest cameras I take on holiday with me are: OP3 GoPro 12 Nikon D5300. Previously owned the OP1 which never got used, hated it for it's shitty little screen and having a mobile stuck to the side of it was just asking for trouble. It was eventually replaced with a GoPro 10. Then A GoPro 12 & insta360 Ace Pro. The Ace pro only got used a few times, I couldn't get used to it's weight or it's horrid mounts. Finally, I gave the OP3 a go, really like it. My favourite buy so far. The GoPro 12 is just a back up, nice & lightweight but the OP3 pisses all over it Currently looking to replace my aging D5300. I don't really use my mobile (pixel 8 pro) for photography, sometimes for GPS coordinates when my D5300 doesn't play nice, and the odd selfie with tourists.

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNd1LL5Sp/ I think I’m a person that can honestly tell you this since I had a X2,3 and now the 4 also have ever since used a Hero 8,9,10 in combination with it. You can get awesome results with the X4, also low light isn’t as bad as people say it is, yeah you lose some sharpness and get grain, but honestly we have that problem with action cams ever since they exist, the ace pro 2 has insane low light performance but only because of its ai processing which in my opinion over sharpens the image. I can just say that for me the X4 is a massive upgrade when it comes to creating 9:16 and 16:9 at the same time, workflow is awesome and yes, the app really is as great as people advertise it. I personally never had any errors or weird problems since using it for about 6 months. I usually recrop the 360 footage it wether landscape or portrait, export it to Luma fusion studio drop in my hero 10 footage and use multicam to sync the videos via. Footage or audio, works like a charm.

Wow. I am willing to bet you’ve never done a side by side comparison or gopro, insta360, and dji. It has NOTHING to do with influencers. It has to do with GoPro quality and functionality compared to the their competitors. I started on GoPros with a Hero Session 4 (small cube camera). I loved it. After a while i bought GoPro 8. The resolution was an upgrade and still enjoyed using it. But cracks started appearing in my enjoyment. Battery life was horrible. I had to buy 3 extra batteries (off brand) with a charging case that allowed “action” with my action camera. The chargers that come with GoPro dont allow that. Overheating was also an issue. Then i got a GoPro 10. I used both together to get varying shots like outside car / inside car simultaneously. The 10 would shut off automatically when i placed it on the bumper of my car. Still have idea why. Its an action camera, it shouldn’t do that. Overheating on the 10 is WAY worse. And battery life is terrible. Bought 3 more (off brand) batteries with same “action” charger. Then i bought a Max 360. Absolute trash. The color was horrible. The bit depth was so bad a blue sky looked like it was “printed” from a 1990s printer. I used it for like 6 months then sold it. Since i bought that 360, they have been “announcing” a new 360 for over 5 years. Still hasn’t happened and the competition has not only come out with better 360 cams, but taken the market lead away from GoPro. About 7 yrs after buying my GoPro 8 the 2 batteries that came with it failed. They deformed and expanded out of their case. One was in the camera at the time and luckily i was able to get it out before it caused damage. Now 4 yrs after buying GP10, one of the original batteries deformed. Now I stopped using the ones that came with it and have 2 enduro batteries and 3 of the off brand (Telesin) batteries. So my love of GoPro has gone from a high point to ultra low because of the companies lack of quality(overheating, bad batteries, etc), and not keeping up with the competition.

You can judge for yourself when it comes to photography. Framing, subject and lighting will get you very far on a “cheap” camera. Also get a small tray for stability. This was a few years ago using a GoPro 10 https://www.reddit.com/r/scuba/s/u2nkwABjpZ Now I have upgraded to an insta ace pro 2 which has great low light performance. I used to have a couple of backscatter macro/wide 4300. I’ve been able to shoot decent video during tech dives, see for example this video which has footage from an ace pro 1 and 2 https://youtu.be/L7UgwJpqEyw?si=6bFlP115qIUXMzu9 My videography skills are not great, but you get an idea of the quality you get and how far it will get you. Finally, [dive saga](https://youtube.com/@divesaga?si=XnmvOxWPBauRgBbU) shoots a lots of its videos on insta 360 cameras Can you achieve excellent results? Yes, but it depends on a combination of factors that will help you succeed while staying within a budget. Good lighting will definitely be crucial.

I've tried to defend GorPro for so long as they do have the best daylight footage and best log profile. I've owned the Hero 3, 5, 7, 10 and now the 12. The 3, 5, 7 and 10 I was happy with. But it's getting indefensible now, with no Hero 14 out this year I am every chance to jump to DJI if the action 6 is good enough. Still using the GP2 processor is a joke, it came out with the H10, it's so far out of date. Low light hasn't usually been a concern to me as much, hence never making the switch to the competition. But it does pop up on occassions in thick forest or tree coverage, basically anything other than direct sunlight, so I am starting to notice how poor it is. On top of that the screens, lack of fast charge, slow boot times for "quick capture" ... I bought the Osmo 360 and am glad, I think the overall experience is better than that with GoPro and the footage is better than anything Insta360 has ever made which is always oversaturated and over sharpened trash. Maybe I'll switch back for Max 3 in 5 years time, maybe it will have a new processor, larger sensor and better editing software by then.

They’re using the same sensors and lenses I believe. Do you want 360? If so, max 2 is your guy. Don’t care about 360? Then the 13 is good. Hell, the 10 and 11 are pretty damn good too.

I have a gopro10 and a gopro11 and both of them can be switched in linear mode, have good focus on 1 meter distance, so I would say they can be well used for this use case -- and the gopro13 I am sure, too. However when it comes to close-up recordings you will need a different camera, or maybe some lenses that enable that. I have no experience with wireless mics, but I mount a rhode mic on the gopro, and can say it's performance would be well suited for this use case. Gopros can run hot (until they shutdown) when running longer, but this is not a problem for me, as I am usually not taking such long takes in one go. However I am saying that because you say you want less post production, maybe want to do longer recordings in one go. I do not know how the gopro13 handles overheating these days.

I have a hero 11 and a hero 10 and I am totally satisfied for the niche I am in (hiking videos). I am not even using both of their features to the fullest. I just want to have good 4K coverage which both the 11 and the 10 do just fine. And the fact that DJI is bypassing basic google playstore tests for android and you have to sideload apps for the cameras is in my POV an absolute nogo. I am fine with the gopro ecosystem, using their cloud, and would buy the 13 if I would have a need to. Yes, I do hope that they manage to somehow catch up on the technical side and I do acknowledge that other vendors may be technically better meanwhile, but simply this fact doesn't make me change as a customer immediately. More factors are playing into that decision. The cameras I have do just fine for what I require.

I'd recommend a GoPro (need underwater housing for it and the little stick). They're up to the 13 now, but even a 9 or 10 will deliver great results for that. No need to get into the inky endless abyss of underwater cameras quite yet

I'd love an insta 360 as well, your going to get shots you just cant get with a gopro. It also requires post production editing to pull video from it as its recording the 360 degree view. If you go gopro your going to want a max lense mod so factor that cost into whatever your buying. Not needed but will make your videos 10x better. know if your using a selfie stick it doesnt dissapear like a insta360 so you will have that stick in the shot. there is advantages and disadvantages to both. I have a gopro 10 and it works well for what i want/need. I use a selfie stick usually for chase runs for others and helmet mount for my own riding, i find selfie sticks very awkward to hold if im trying to do any spins, jumps, rails, etc. one of the main reasons i havent went to a 360 as it seems thats really where your going to get the best shots is with a big ole stick

I've had a GoPro Hero 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10, as well as the Max. I've go over 2,000 skydives with GoPros on my helmet, including world records and jumps into the Blue Hole in Belize. I've taken them to every continent (including Antarctica) for running and scuba diving and overall travel. So I use GoPros a lot, and I use them in environments that are pretty tough on them. One thing that's been annoying is the heavy push to GoPro subscription. Their cloud storage is just awful. The money is better spent on something like Dropbox or Box. Their software has been pretty terrible too. Hardware wise, they've been hit or miss. Sometimes it's software, sometimes it's hardware. They can corrupt video files, do a weird "gets hot after charging and locks up so that you have to pull the batteries", they can stop mid recording. All of that with the proper recommended cards. Some have just been lemons, probably a bad solder or heatsink contact. Sometimes it's fixed in a firmware upgrade. They're notorious in the skydiving community. "Did you get it?" "No, it stopped recording 5 seconds in." "It froze up". That kind of thing. Not all the time, not even frequent, but enough that it's annoying. And each model seems to have their own little quirks. My Hero 7 and 10 has been solid for the most part. My 9.. not as much. My Max is a piece of shit. My next 360 camera will absolutely not be a Max, and probably won't be whatever they come out with next. My next action camera probably won't be a GoPro.

In that case, I'd avoid the max, as 360 footage is just more of a pain to deal with. I would get the cheapest 10, 11, 12, or 13 you can find. They'll all do what you want there.

I use GoPro 10/12 and insta360 Ace pro 1 for scuba. Both the GoPros over heat at 4k60 at about 45/55 minutes depending on screen ratio I'm using. That's also continuous use. I have an aluminum case that uses exterior battery which helps. But that is still less time then the dive. The insta360 lasts about hour in it's dive case at 4k60. I have had it go as long as 1hr 10m at 4k60 as well. The insta360 acepro is king of the night dives. Especially if your gonna do any UV light shots or do the Turks and Caicos glow worms. The gopros will do good if you oversaturate the dive with bright lights, but then your negatively affecting your videos. Night life will stay away, or you'll blind a aggressive barracuda or turtle, etc... I don't use the insta360 as a primary for lack of attachments. Repeating myself here, but I have the t housing power case. It fits the GoPro plus the digi refuel battery pack and the case goes down to 800 ft (or something like that l, forgot the actual number since I ain't never going that deep anyway). It has magnetic red filters and magnetic macro lense I can easily pop on and off during the dive as needed, and with GoPro labs I can change the settings underwater with QR code plastic cards I made. So let's say I swim across a photogenic whatever on the floor, i can flash card the GoPro for full macro settings, pop off red filter, pop on macro lense, turn on lights and I'm good to go. Then do exact opposite and continue my dive. The ace pro doesn't have all the other bells and whistles yet. It does have its own dice case, and you can the flip filters for it, but those for me have been a pain for various reasons. I should mention the new ace pro 2, has a function where the hard button can be programmed to do any function. Like their zoom, which the GoPro zoom loses resolution the ace pros do not. But I have not used the ace pro 2, one reviewer had an instance of the camera negatively reacting to purple light, which is close to the UV light I use on coral reefs. Which if you never done I highly recommend. Sorry for the wall of text. Cheers

I have GoPro 10/12/13. And insta360 Ace pro, 90% filming while scuba, with occasional daughters recital. I noticed a significant difference from 10-12, also huge noticable effect for some reason in the GoPro labs results as well. I did not notice that much of a different 12-13 and for some reason I'm having more thermals with the 13. I ended up going with the Ace pro primarily for twilight/night dives but I'm starting to use it more and more for all dives.

Yes! I am filming a lot of in Pocket 3 on YT and socials. The best is that it is very light and portable. You can take it everywhere. If you're filming in crowdy/'suspicious' places is the best (easy to hide). I had before also Nikon Z7 II, but I am trying to sell. Now thinking about Sony ZVE1 because when are watching others YouTubers I see that is a lot of space to improve my image and quality. To be honest, I can't imagine filming without a pocket these days. Everything depends, but for me but for me the less gear you have to carry the better. Ah sorry I also have GoPro 10 and using it where I can't use Pocket 3

It really depends what type of footage u want to get. If it’s POV I’d recommend a GoPro or maybe the insta360 go3s. The biggest thing that held me back from getting a go3s tho is the battery life and I also would be using it for water activities and the GoPro is much versatile. If u want 360 video then look into the insta360 x4 or x5. Those are going to be the best options currently available for 360 video. I currently use a GoPro hero 10 and it’s perfect.

So in my opinion, gopro is always the way to go, they always seem to be the leader when it comes to quality and features. The only thing I would say is, I don't know when it really got good on the gopro's but they have an image stabilization system incorporated into the camera that basically eliminate the need or any balancing system such as a gimbal. I'm pretty sure the 10 has it, but a nice feature to have

Works with the old remote control so very easy to start several cameras at the same time. On the GoPro 13 there is also time code which is extremely important during multi-camera filming. Possibility of filming 5.3 k. Very good camera

Sounds like your sports don't really need low light either, so not sure what the hesitation is. I own a few DJI products as well (drone, mic mini, Osmo mobile) but I'd get a GoPro over the DJI camera for sure.

I would avoid GoPro Hero 10 or beyond. Those are the only Hero cameras I have experience with and they're a huge PITA especially for motorcycling. It either doesn't turn on, doesn't record, or records with no audio ALL THE TIME. If you happen to notice it's not turning on, then you get to pull over, take your helmet off, unmount the camera, and fiddle with it until you figure out what's not working. Usually requiring you to remove and reinsert the battery. It's the most frustrating thing ever on a bike and I'd argue dangerous since you're preoccupied with the camera instead of your ride. I tried working with a Hero 10 and 11 for over 2 years before I swore them off forever. I recently switched to Insta360 and couldn't be happier. The Insta has literally not one time malfunctioned or not recorded when I pressed the button. I also have an old DJI Osmo Action that never had reliability issues. I would say any Osmo Action gen or the previous gen Insta360 (R One or something like that I cant' remember the name) would do the job well. If part of its job is dashcam you might also consider a 360 camera. You'll have way butter luck catching incidents with it than a regular action cam. I also have a GoPro 360 MAX camera. Unlike the Hero cameras, it's been great. It's still glitchy at times but nowhere near the regularity of the Hero cameras. It's kind long in the tooth now too so you may be able to find them on a good deal somewhere.

Simple. 5.3k resolution. Allows you to crop in on videos and gives you the highest video quality. Sure Ace Pro 2 has 8k....at 30fps. 8K is just overkill and you won't get any decent looking slow motion out of 30fps. 5.3k is the sweet spot. If you want to do color correcting which the Ace Pro does automatically, you can easily tweak that in editing it's very simple. Until another action camera comes out with 5.3k resolution it's GoPro for me. Then hopefully the next GoPro will have 5.3k 120fps so we can get even higher quality slow motion. If you're shooting underwater get an AOI UWL-O3 lens attachment for it for increased clarity and ability to focus at closer range too.

Hey there! I have used a GoPro for many of my professional and recreational dives. In my experience, GoPro pros are great within 30 m and have a wide depth of field, but when it comes to color, correction and specific focus, they are severely lacking. If you are seriously interested in getting into the hobby of underwater photography, or videography, I would suggest looking at something like an Olympus tough TG – six or TG – seven. these are phenomenal cameras for the money and have all the modern features you want, including automatic white balance ability to shoot in 4K at 60 FPS, as well as having all of your standard aperture and shutter speed settings all in one convenient digital camera package. I think the TG6, which I personally use runs about $400 New. You may be able to find one cheaper used, but I would definitely recommend a housing if you are frequently taking pictures and videos beneath meters or 30 feet.

Get whichever Go Pro is in your price range. Anything Hero 7 and above will have hypersmooth and as long as you’re not running it at max resolution and fps it shouldn’t overheat, especially with a fan or AC on in the car. 30 fps would be my recommendation, and most should be able to handle that at 4K just fine.

I started out with the DragonTouch 4K action camera and it was good enough. I started filming my games because I had just started playing again after 27 years away from hockey. I made friends with a few goalies I met here on Reddit who were kind enough to mentor me. Eventually, the video quality just wasn't good enough for what I needed. I invested in a gopro hero black, I believe I have the 11 or 12, and bought an aluminum case and suction mount on Amazon. The picture quality is amazing, and it makes filming and posting to youtube much more enjoyable since the footage is really sharp. Crease Quest on YouTube if you want to see the difference in camera quality. My oldest videos were all with the same camera. I tried editing and fiddling with the settings as much as I could, but when I switched to the GoPro it was a complete game changer. My home barn lets me mount the camera high inside the glass, which is why I bought the aluminum case. Other rinks I play at my son has to be behind the glass moving the camera between periods. EDIT: I also mounted a small external battery to the suction mount and have that plugged into the gopro during games so I don't run into any power issues.

Many videos shown on YouTube are from the launch periods and are sponsored. Especially the DJI Action 5 was pushed pretty hard in my opinion. But they all make great videos. If you want low light performance I wouldn't go the gopro way. But in good light conditions I'd say the gopro still has the crown. For me the killer features though are 5.3k 8:7 and Gopro Labs which adds features no other action cam even comes close to. Those all help a lot for editing.
