Either standard hero13 or hero13 plus ultra wide lens mod is the call for MTB. I do a lot of biking and the results are great on GoPro. Plus you can use GoPro labs and dial in the right exposure and bitrate settings to maximize the quality.

Been using the [GoPro HERO13 Ultra Wide](https://x.com/DealHopperHQ/status/1977619571025854496) for a few weeks and it’s honestly great. Super sharp 5.3K video, smooth stabilization, and the ultra wide lens makes every shot look more cinematic. Took it swimming a few times with no issues, so the waterproofing checks out. Battery life could be better, but overall it’s a tough little camera that delivers awesome footage for its size.

GoPro hero 13. Best image quality of any action camera.  Max 2, fairly good image wuality for a 360 camera but comes with 360 video workflow which is very tasking in comparison.  If you dont need 360 camera, get a the GoPro 13.

Different cameras for different things. Battery life, low light, fast UI go with DJI. Overall video quality, skintones and stabilization go with GoPro.  As a pro user I choose GoPro over DJI but would recommend DJI for beginner not caring about the mentioned things. :)

I filmed my wedding with a couple gopros. They were 4s back in 2015. My only recommendation is don’t film a wedding using GoPros. But if you absolutely want to I bet the 13 with that anamorphic lens could get some good shots.

I’ve had the 11 and the 13. I would definitely recommend the 13.

Nope you can subscribe at anytime. I send in some old Hero’s 5 just to build my army of 13’s

Absolutely! I have a 13 in the mail right now coming my way 🙂

If you have the budget and want the flexibility take the Insta360. Otherwise between the 2 DJI is better, I have been diving with a group of people and most of us preferred the shots of DJI 5 over GoPro 13. DJI is a very reliable affordable choice.

Ever since they added image stabilization with the H7, they've been amazing. Disappointed they didn't give us a 14 yet. But my 13 is amazing. Unfortunately, we're spoiled now. Watching footage from anything prior to the H7 now excruciating.

If you use the flat color profile, then GoPro handles the shadows quite ok

I use flat color profile without editing. To me it looks better than the other profiles

Basic summary is the X5 is out for obvious reasons (curved lenses don't work great underwater), the Action 5 tends to overdo the "blue" correction and isn't always accurate to the real colors, and sometimes loses sharpness in some scenarios. The AcePro's colors are better, but the highlights tend to be quite soft which removes some of the punch from the image. It also loses sharpness in some scenarios. The GoPro tends to have the most accurate colors and the best overall sharpness in these tests.

For the most part. Same hardware, same lens, same processor. The 13 just has a better battery and updated firmware.

Yes, Hypersmooth has been pretty much perfected for a while now (everything since the 8 is rock solid). It's only incremental things that get added, like horizon leveing (available from the 11+), and then support for the extra lenses GoPro releases with each new generation. Battery life on the 12 is better than the 11, but the 13 is the best overall.

Everyone here saying to get the 13, but the 11, 12 and 13 all use the same sensor and all shoot raw, so they will all deliver identical results for your use case. The only benefit of the 13 is a better first party macro (and anamorphic) lens attachment which can be beneficial for photography. There are however third party macro lenses for the 11 and 12, and while they're not as easy to use or as versatile as the one that's made for the 13, they do work.

Yes, I regularly do night photography with my GoPros - Hero10 through 13, as well as 360 cameras. But I want to stress that your subject needs to also be stationary - it’s not like you can film wildlife with this approach. But if you’re just trying to capture trees or landscapes, depending on how much moon & starlight you have, this might work fine. Can you give more detail about the types of images you want to capture?

That is not correct. You can shoot in 4K 120fps 16:9, or 2.7K 120fps 4:3 on the Hero13

1) is it a Hero13? 2) is it in Standard Lens mode, and not using a Max Lens Mod, etc? 2) is it in Standard profile, and not HDR? 4K 120 fps 16:9 is a selectable option in the product manual and on the list of available video settings on my Hero13s themselves

Correct - the Ultra Wide Lens puts the camera into a different mode, which has different shooting options and resolutions. If you install the standard lens cover (or just manually put the camera into Standard Lens Mode), you'll see the shooting options that are available with the standard lens, which is different from Ultra Wide Lens mode

Yep, no prob - every lens mod has a different set of shooting modes that are optimized for that lens’ distortion / the amount of light it lets through / the processing required / etc

You need to configure the GoPro before stationary filming to not overheat. You have to turn off stabilization and other settings. When you do, Hero13 records in 4K for over 2 hours with zero overheating (until the battery dies). It just takes some user knowledge

A GoPro defaults to maxing out the hardware performance in exchange for the highest quality footage, which is why the Hero13 still has the best daytime image quality when there’s plenty of airflow.  It’s an action camera optimized for action sports. If clicking a few settings to configure the camera for a different environment is a dealbreaker, then perhaps this isn’t the best camera for you. Nothing wrong with that

DJI and Insta360 have poured a ton of money into buying influencer reviews and online bot accounts to push that narrative. This is well-documented, but effective nonetheless.  However, some of the critiques are actually valid - those cameras have made a conscious decision to improve low light performance, and they _do_ outperform GoPros in that area. But GoPros still have the best daytime image quality, and are higher resolution and have better aspect ratios than competitors. So, you simply have to choose what environments you’ll film in most often, and pick the best camera for that purpose
