A 1 inch sensor won’t always be in focus (assuming a wide aperture lens). That’s one of the main problems Insta360 had with the 1 inch module for the One R (the other being bad rolling shutter and poorer stabilization, also likely caused by the larger sensor). Many users ask for 1 inch sensors on action cameras because they’ve heard that’s a good thing from some YouTuber, but they ignore the very obvious downsides
People are switching to DJI, GoPros tend to overheat. Basically want editing on phone and ai stuff use insta360, it's the heaviest one. Want GPS(this is nice but some models don't have it) and the original, uso GoPro. Want the arguably best night shots(insta360 is also good here) and a lighter camera get DJI. If you're going to add audio the DJI one has a sync directly with their mics and GoPro will ask you to add a mod or an adapter. Insra360 has Bluetooth connection also but needs a USB to jack adapter for the mic if you want better audio. Edit: I use an older insta360 camera, an one r 1inch, that's heavier than a current DJI but has awesome night imagine due to the bigger sensor, for audio I capture it separately using s dedicated mic and sync in post.
In theory, osmo would give you a better result as its sensors are bigger. By bigger, i mean the useful and exploitable surface of the sensors. So it should receive more light and result in a less noisy quality. That’s the theory. In the real life, in a “very low light” conditions, Insta360 One RS 1inch is giving me better results than my X5. Pure Video mode is not very compatible with club lighting, that’s better to use a manual settings with limited ISO for instance. DJI is promising a quality comparable to a 1inch sensor. I need to see it to believe it. but if that’s true, Osmo would be your best bet, added to the fact you’ll probably have a better result shooting in DLog 10bit, too. That said, if you’re not in a hurry, I’d wait for the first results people will share in the next weeks.
If I am a DJ and need stationary 4k live streaming, I use the insta360 1" instead. Its low light is better. Dun believe the 8k nonsense, sensor size wins.
Pretty sure the new insta360’s even have a dashcam function to so you can basically have it on whenever the bike is on and it’ll just start writing over the oldest footage when the card is full. So I’d personally go the insta360 plus a usb charging port and get a high capacity SD card. FWIW I have one of the older models (one rs) and my channel is ABlueQuaker5486 if you want an idea of the 360 quality. It would be a bit better now probably in terms of stitching (putting the front and rear view together to create the 360) and read-write speed and +3 years of 360 camera quality. Just keep that in mind.
Depends what I want to do. _Basic pics for my own memory?_ Sony RX100 Simple to pack, there is an battery case with in built charger, sadly only micro usb. Good point and shoot that covers all the range, most phones don't. _Basic video for my own memory?_ Insta360 and a way to mount it for handsfree (RS One in my case, but better get the latest model for the best source to cut out from) I just let it run and record, when something is happening, like I cycle thru a city, watch some stuff or visit some stuff. I don't care about the framing or anything else, I just cut it out on the tablet/notebook afterwards. This way I don't ruin my vacation with prioritising video shooting over my own enjoyment and instead just get some clips as keep sakes. I wouldn't say those are good for youtube or similar, those 4k get small quite fast when you start to cut a normal view out of it and those fisheye lenses can't provide necessery details for todays quality standards. _Shooting good pics is the point._ My DSLR/Mirroless + 2 Zoom lenses (typical reportage duo: 16-35mm & 70-200mm equivalents, these days also often with f4 constant instead of f2.8) Some vacations are to enjoy the hobby of taking pics, then I take gear. I add an monopod with small three pod feet, if I think I will need it. _Storage_ I store multiple endurance microSD cards in one of those credit card sized holders in small seal-able bag. That way I can change often, like daily or any other day, so that if my gear gets stolen, that I only loose the last pics, not the whole vacation. The bag makes it waterproof. Sometimes I add an USB-C card reader or usb-c hub, when I know I will have some downtime in the hotels or train/flight. That way I can copy some pics over for uploading to server / cloud storage, upload some pics for chats/social media to keep family and friends in the loop, or depending where you are to an 24h print service for later pickup of post cards with my pics on them. _Why I rarely use phone only_ iPhones are good yes. Some android phones are good yes. Especially for the fast snapshots. But I still use them mostly as an add on to my primary. One reason is the coverage of lens angles, most phones are almost only fisheye to ultrawide. Wideangle often equiv to 8-10mm and the "normal" lens equiv to 20-35mm. Some phones come with "telelens" of 50-70mm. In flagships u can get 100mm to 160mm. (iPhone 17 Pro Max offers 13mm, 24mm & 100mm as an example.) Firstly those setups don't provide enough coverage for most situations and are too focused on the extremes (ultra wide or tele), which will balloon or compress part of the picture and will change the look / impression of the scene. Another reason is the importance of the phone on travels. So much stuff is on them, from payment up to boarding passes. I feel more relaxed if I don't have it out in my hands all the time.
Yeah, kind of the same for me. I’m also deep in the DJI ecosystem (Pocket 3, drones, mics), and I wanted the Osmo 360 to win. My first 360 cam was the Insta360 One R, which I used for a lot of 360 tours and content. When I accidentally ran it over with my Jeep, I upgraded to the X3. What was dope was that the One R still works with the 4K mod, even after getting run over. Eventually, I scratched the X3 lenses and had to repair it or upgrade again. Around that time, DJI’s 360 camera was rumored to be close to release, so I decided to wait. Since I’m a DJI fan, I liked the idea of staying in the ecosystem and being able to connect mics the same way I do with the Pocket 3, without needing a receiver. I already knew the X5 would be a meaningful upgrade over the X3, especially with removable lenses, but I held off because I wanted to see what DJI would do. When DJI finally released theirs, I was really disappointed, no removable lenses was a dealbreaker for me. On top of that, I was already very comfortable with the Insta360 Studio mobile and desktop apps. The next gen of these will be an interesting battle though. I’m sure DJI will fix the lens issue, and Insta360 will probably need to add 10-bit and log to keep up.
Insta 360 One RS
After riding and recording about 3hrs, I'll be right about 45%battery. It's super easy to swap batteries too
Before owning it I thought I would use it primarily helmet mounted bit i ended up using it waaaayyy more with the 360 lens. I recommend getting both lenses if you buy the OneRS
