I hear ya. I went from a basket air fryer whose convenience in terms of cooking quickly was lost when having to do batch after batch in the basket. We quickly moved on from that one for a Breville Smart Oven and love it. After buying a couple more fry baskets, it's really easy to cook a whole bunch of food in one go. We do cycle the baskets periodically during cooking so that they all spend roughly the same time at the top and closest to the heating element, which is a minor inconvenience . The additional toaster oven features are also pretty handy. We really like the Breville oven.

I bought the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer a few months ago, and have been happy with it! It’s our first air fryer, so nothing to compare it to, but I like that it’s bigger than our old toaster oven and can toast more slices, and the air fryer function has been easy to use. I bought it at Target - just looked and it’s on sale! https://www.target.com/p/breville-smart-oven-air-fryer/-/A-90673371

I’ve been gradually switching most of my appliances to Breville because I really like the brand's quality and having matching pieces at home. The Smart Oven Air Fryer, which is 30% larger than the Smart Oven Pro, would be my pick. I found a great resource on another subreddit where you can [compare the specs of different air fryers](https://www.reddit.com/user/No-Competition-5766/comments/1i5jdq2/air_fryer_models_comparison_spreadsheet/). Worth checking it out when comparing options.

I bought the Breville Smart Oven ($350 right now on Amazon) and use it more than once per day. I moved into my current apartment 9 months ago and have not used the regular oven one time. If cooking for 2 it is more than roomy enough. It does look a little less than gleaming because of so much use, but it is amazing! Check it out to see all of the features and you will not be sorry for spending extra cash.

Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer. It does everything- air fry, toast, bake, reheat, keep warm, etc. I use mine in some capacity every single day. Size is pretty good too, can’t remember the last time I had to turn on my large oven. Also, it’s easier to get things in and out of than the air fryers with the “buckets.”

I have a Breville too, and we use the air fry function all the time! I’m not a typical air fry person. I think they’re ugly and a space Taker. Also from trying 2 out before, they sucked compared to my toaster oven, which does it all. My big oven is convection, but it takes so long to preheat and then it just heats the house So much.

Id recommend the Breville smart oven. It’s pricey, but the build quality and versatility (air fry, roast, dehydrate) make it worth it imo. Feels more like a countertop oven than a typical air fryer. The Instant vortex is good too if you're on a tight budget. Same here! I actually love this oven, we have the non-pro version as we wanted something smaller. It takes longer to airfry compared to a traditional airfryer, but I do find the end result comparable. We use it for many other uses, like reheating baby's food, baking, toasting, and more. Couldn't recommend more!

Agree. We bought a used Breville off Craigslist and used it for years without any problems. We were randomly bought a Cuisinart for Christmas ~ 4 years ago, so we gave our Breville to our parents and used the Cuisinart instead. The Cuisinart function dials are now starting to break, while the Breville is still going strong.

If you’re dropping up to $300 on an air fryer, you’re in prime territory for getting something that’ll genuinely make your life easier (and make you wonder why you didn’t upgrade sooner). The Breville smart oven air fryer is definitely a high end choice. It’s basically an air fryer + toaster oven hybrid, so if you want something that looks sleek and does more than just air frying then go for this! But if you want a straight up air frying powerhouse, the Ninja foodi dualzone is AMAZING. Two independent baskets mean you can cook different foods at different temps at the same time (no more waiting for round two of fries!). The Cosori dual blaze is is also really nice. It has heating elements on both the top and bottom so you don’t even need to flip your food mid cook. I actually came across [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/airfryerhacks/comments/1izsvbo/confession_my_air_fryer_might_be_my_soulmate/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) that breaks down different models and why an air fryer is pretty much a kitchen essential. Might help you narrow things down!

Our air fryer is also a toaster oven (Breville). I’ve never looked into the paper liners and have been using parchment paper. Now I’m wondering if there’s a better option. We mostly use the air fry function for green beans, samosas and chicken nuggets. Otherwise it functions as a toaster and extra oven.

I absolutely adore my Breville Smart. It has replaced my oven. However, I do use the basket style air fryers for air frying. Far superior results for actual air frying. The Breville can do a good job of air frying, but because you have to protect the elements the heat can’t get to the food properly. If you don’t put something underneath a drippy food it’s a really bad scene.

Since you mentioned how hot it gets on the outside, I thought I would share my experience. We've used a breville toaster oven forever, and since it even fits a pie, we almost never use the actual oven anymore. A friend let us borrow a spare instant vortex air fryer and we loved it, so we thought we would try an air fryer toaster oven so we could still just have one appliance. It did not do nearly as good a job at "air frying", but the big issue was that it absolutely radiated heat because there seems to be no insulation in there at all, to where it actually heated up the kitchen more than the full size oven does. We returned it, kept our toaster oven, and just added an air fryer to our repertoire. 🤷‍♂️

Is there a reason you’re looking for a basket style? We consolidated a lot of our kitchen appliances and in that process, we got rid of our super old/tiny toaster oven and got a Breville toaster oven that also functions as an air fryer. It is bigger than a basket style, but we saved counter space by not needing to buy a basket style and getting rid of the toaster oven. It’s all metal and it is quite roomy. We use it more often than our regular oven.

Yup 100%. We use it almost everyday instead of a traditional oven as a traditional oven takes a long time to heat up. If I had a do-over I’d get the larger Breville unit. Also we don’t have a microwave. I just huck stuff in the Breville and set the timer and forget it. I’ve never done much raw stuff in it other than to roast vegetables. But works great for that as well.

We toast bread almost daily, my husband proofs his bread with it, kids can use it easily for snack foods, and it great for side veggies with dinner. Agreed. I got my Breville when I was in an apartment and their oven sucked. It works GREAT as a small oven replacement. I really wanted the air fryer part to work well, and figured it would when I heard the fan fire up... but it just doesn't get the air flow required to crisp things up like an actual air fryer. It's a function I stopped using and just ended up getting the real thing. Sucks to lose so much counter top space to both, but they both server their intended functions real well. I still do not regret getting the Breville though even now that I have a decent oven. It is great being able to bake something or cook a pizza in the summer without turning the kitchen into a gas grill. Something that is impossible with the gas oven in my kitchen.

I've had a Breville for a few years. The really nice thing about it is that it's also a toaster and convection oven. I use it more than the regular oven now since it is large enough for most things and takes much less time to heat. For air frying I've found it works pretty well. An air fryer is essentially just a specialized convection oven anyway.

It's a great appliance, had it 4+ years now with no problems and it does a bunch of stuff besides air frying, but it's also pretty expensive. Before that we were happy with our Power XL oven-style air fryer. I always advise people to get the air fryers with shelves rather than with baskets because they are more versatile and easier to load and clean.

I prefer a toaster oven/air fryer combo. Many have a nonstick lining on the machine itself, but the tray that touches your food is usually stainless steel. Plus my kitchen isn't big enough for too many single-use appliances. I adored my Cuisinart toaster oven/air fryer but it only lasted about 4 years. I've switched to the breville which is more expensive but seems to be holding up better.

Second this. Ours is a staple in the kitchen. We haven’t used our actual oven since we’ve gotten the Breville.

I had a toaster oven style (Breville) and it was terrible as an air fryer. Just get a real air fryer. The Breville was just not a good and stuff dripped from it so clean up was always terrible. Just a real pain to deal with. The basket is so much easier and so much more effective.

I have one of these and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. However, as an air fryer, it performs mediocre. Dedicated air fryers yield better results as far as making things like chicken wings crispy and tasting like they were deep fried. As a counter top convection oven it kicks ass. Heats up fast and bakes and broils just as good as my fancy built in ovens.

I’m a big fan of the Breville convection oven. I use it multiple times a day for everything. Don’t need a separate toaster or air fryer with that thing.
