r/airfryerAnyone changed up from Actifry Genius XL 2 in 1? How was it? Is/was it worth it?

Quite sad that it is discontinued, but I guess it was always a hard sell in the market where the paddle design is just too different than all the other brands. I have the original Actifry with one row and no temp control, I'm really tempted to drop $300CAD just to get the Genius XL 2 in 1 that is still selling on Amazon, but that is like double the price of other air fryers out there.

Having been an air-fryer afficianado since the first Tefal AcriFry in 2007 I've owned, and purchased for other people an assortment of air fryer models over the years. I'm currently running two Tefal air fryers; a Tefal Easy Fry Mega and a Tefal Easy Fry Pizza XL. The first is narrow but deep and the second wide but shallow. Maximum flexibility. To be honest if you're going for a conventional drawer style air fryer, you're not going to get a BIFL model from anyone, but depending on brand you can get BIF-long-time. If you're careful about not using metal utensils or using scouring pads (even plastic ones) to clean in the drawers non-stick coating is so advanced these days that isn't going to be the issue. I've had models that I ran for a decade where the non-stick surface still looks like new because I was sensible about caring for them properly. It tends to be electronics, buttons & fans that fail these days. But designs have gotten simpler. Think about how the brand supports the product after sales. The reason I buy Tefal ones predominantly is because of their after sales support. My original 2007 ActiFry is actually still in use with a family member. Having had: * The lid replaced because it broke when the whole machine was dropped (£16). * The motor gave up when it was around 10 years old (saw daily action over that time) - a new one cost £10 at the time. * New filter(s) and filter grate (£3, accidentally thrown away). * New paddle (snapped at around 13 years old, £8). * New "basket" (£15) when the non-stick got wrecked because it was put to soak in a sink with a load of metal cutlery dumped in it, then rubbed all over while the dishes were done. All of these parts were available from Tefal themselves. I expect they're a little more expensive now but they're all still purchasable now. That air fryer will probably outlive me. If I was buying an air fryer that might potentially be BIFL, it would almost certainly be a tabletop "toaster-oven" style (I'm really not sure if we actually call them that in the UK). I'd personally buy a Sage model as I know some people who have them and don't have a bad word to say, plus I've read up on it anyway and have a degree of confidence. My alternative choice would be a Cuisinart as I have several Cuisinart applicances and find them well supported in the after sales market, but regardless I find their gear tank-like. My toasted sandwich maker is 25 years old. Cuisinart is only my alternative choice because I'd have to put it somewhere different than where I can put a Sage as a Cuisinart is too tall to go there and it'd cause me a headache to fit it somewhere else.

Sure. For context, my first air fryer was the **Tefal Actifry**. It had a rotating paddle, which was great for small items that benefit from movement (Brussels sprouts, fries, courgette), but not so great for pizza or burritos because of the protruding attachment in the middle. Still, we used it for almost 10 years, and apart from the shape, it worked really well. My next model was a **Tefal mini-oven–style air fryer**. It wasn’t very sturdy, but it did a good job overall. Its main drawback was small items, as you couldn’t really shake the tray. After a lot of research, I decided to go with a more traditional **drawer-style air fryer**. The **Cosori TurboBlaze** looks nice, but: * The tray has gaps that are so large that small pieces (bits of Brussels sprouts, fries, courgette) fall through — easily around 1/5 of a batch. Once food falls through those gaps, it’s basically impossible to retrieve it. * When the unit is hot, it’s almost impossible to remove the tray safely (so the mentioned 1/5 of the batch goes to waste). * For larger items (e.g. a portion of lasagne), it runs too hot from the top. * Lowering the fan speed helps a bit, but reheating dishes like lasagne or moussaka still isn’t great. * For pizza or burritos, I have to lower the fan to level 3 (out of 5) to get acceptable results, and even then it takes much longer than with my previous air fryers — and still comes out overly crisp. I like crispy pizza, but not “could break a window” crispy. * If I shorten the time and keep the fan higher, the top burns while the bottom (especially on burritos) stays underdone. Of course, there’s always a learning curve, and we’re still getting to know each other. That said, my previous air fryers didn’t require this much trial and error — they mostly just worked, within their limitations. A lot also depends on what kind of food you cook and how experienced you are with air fryers. Cleaning is another downside. Both of my previous air fryers were much easier to clean. The Actifry barely required cleaning at all — pizza and burritos needed none, fries usually just a paper-towel wipe. The mini oven had a metal sieve tray and a drip tray underneath, both of which fit easily in the dishwasher (about the space of two plates). With the TurboBlaze, there’s a single flat tray, but the entire drawer underneath needs to be washed after every use — even when using parchment paper underneath the tray. On the plus side, the TurboBlaze works very quietly, and even the beeps are pleasantly subdued. Overall, not a great purchase for me.

I bought my first air fryer in 2012. It was Tefal with the mixing paddle. It lasted me 10 years. Now I have another (different shape). I use it every day. Burritos (homemade - like them crunchy a bit), fish fingers, salmon, cod, zucchini, chicken wings, whole mackerel. Rarely frozen fries, but it is great for those. I use it 9 out of 10 days. Great for breakfast too (mostly on the weekend). It helps with many diners. It prepares many dinners. It is healthier (great) but most of all it makes things crunchy, makes thing fast and makes thing delicious! We are a family of 3 (2 adults and a kid). And do not get me start on re-heating pizza!!! Delicate stuff (Italian thin pizza with delicate toppings you need to be watchful) but stuff like Dominos or Pizza Hut - nothing make is as good as air fryer even 2 days after delivery!

I started with a T-Fal that mixes as it cooks but have upgraded to a Ninja 2 compartment. I use it for anything you would deep fry and cooking veggies, just add some spices and let their own moisture do the work. Reheat pizza and other leftovers too. I like to cook ribs or wings most of the way in it then finish on the BBQ.

I'm not sure why - I'm terrible at getting stuff to work on Reddit (but it works for me?) anyway, it's the t-fal actifry

I had one, and you're correct. Fries were good, but anything that could "squish" did. my tater tots were tater bits lol

I have a T-Fal single basket and it's great. Can cook so many different things, potatoes and other vegetables, fish, shrimp, meats, reheating pizza and toasting bagels.

A paid 80. A few years ago for a T-fal that did a lot less.
