r/homeownersHow many have air purifiers running nonstop?

I have two Alen Air i75s and i35s running in my house from 10 am to 10 pm. I used to run them 24 hours a day on high, but my electric bill was too high. The air in our house was always fresh and I found the woosh noise from the air scrubbers soothing.

Agree, have 75i and even on highest speed sound is minimal compared to a whole bunch of others I tried. And even on lower speeds of 3 and 4 still getting 255-300 cfm. I just bought the 45i because I wanted an additional unit in my living space that was smaller footprint. But running on high speed was way louder to me than turbo on the 75i and getting 350-375 cfm vs 255. Should be fine though for a smaller space where you can run on speed 3 vs turbo. In my case, as much as I love how small and lightweight it is, I'm returning. I just ordered 35i for the bedroom as it was a savings over 45i and used a coupon at home depot. Will see. I use the fresh filters.. Love the app, which I didn't think I would even care about. It shows me graphs of when outdoor and indoor levels spike... Co2 , pm2. 5, voc. And I like that I can change speeds and other setting from my phone if needed. I'm assuming the sensor not super accurate, but it shows trends in air quality.

r/BuyItForLifeThe Best Air Purifier on the Market? Recommendation?

Alen Breathesmarts have been in phenomenal for us. I bought the 45i for living room and a couple 35is for bedrooms. Power, quiet, and auto setting to turn up when particles are detected in the air. They make a huge difference.

I’m using Alen 45i and 35i in our home and they work great. we have 2 cats and these machines remove any pet and cooking odors. filter needs to be replaced once a year. Having an app makes it handy to check or change settings as needed, also has a schedule option. good machines for the money.

Purifiers under 200 wont do much for odors unfortunately. Or not for very long. You need thicker filters with black carbon pellets -these absorb odors. The normal white filters in most purifiers just capture particles. Does nothing for odors. Under 200 dollar units will fair chance have a thin carbon layer which is good for smoke, and only modestly helps a little with odors, as well they might even have a small amount of carbon pellets..however these wont be as good as bigger/better units, and wont last as long. As for odors you probably need to spend closer to 300 id say. So an Alen 35i would be a good choice, although I believe it is 290. (maybe 270 ? I saw it on sale recently for 250 perhaps.) So Alen's are a great brand as you get a lifetime warranty...if you remain in the filter replacement program. So with their best filters for odors + VOC's...thats 90 bucks every 9 or 12 months, of your choice. They are also quiet + energy efficient. Better units for odors are AustinAir and those are like 750 bucks. The cheapest way to help with odors would be to get a ventilator, such as what weed growers have..which is only around 60-120 bucks, with a custom carbon filter attached. Although you have to mess with the ventilation so its not something I have done. (I just got an Alen 45i + a bunch of other purifiers.) So I'm not even sure if 1 alen unit will completley eliminate your odor issue, you might need more than 1 unit perhaps, but it would go a long way. Heres an example ventilator with caron filter: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CBPDTSKS/ref=sspa\_dk\_detail\_2?pd\_rd\_i=B0CBPDTSKS&pd\_rd\_w=uI1E4&content-id=amzn1.sym.f2f1cf8f-cab4-44dc-82ba-0ca811fb90cc&pf\_rd\_p=f2f1cf8f-cab4-44dc-82ba-0ca811fb90cc&pf\_rd\_r=CHVHY04GHGQ35FE4AG8E&pd\_rd\_wg=S0mcy&pd\_rd\_r=54d044df-6b88-4bb3-b969-83f1b1c8700b&sp\_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWxfdGhlbWF0aWM&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CBPDTSKS/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?pd_rd_i=B0CBPDTSKS&pd_rd_w=uI1E4&content-id=amzn1.sym.f2f1cf8f-cab4-44dc-82ba-0ca811fb90cc&pf_rd_p=f2f1cf8f-cab4-44dc-82ba-0ca811fb90cc&pf_rd_r=CHVHY04GHGQ35FE4AG8E&pd_rd_wg=S0mcy&pd_rd_r=54d044df-6b88-4bb3-b969-83f1b1c8700b&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWxfdGhlbWF0aWM&th=1) If you put the litter box as far away from your bed as possible, and then put a purifier between you and the litter box...that will probably help a lot. Although again, you will get more bang for your buck with a ventilator...if you have a very strong odor issue. Under 200 dollar units are great overall, and will clean your air, get rid of the pet dander, pet hair, taxoplasmosis probably etc. But it just won't make a huge impact on strong odors. (A little, but you would likely need 2 or 3 or 4 of such units to combine the amount of carbon...that you would get in 1 better unit, or a carbon filter ventilator.) You can also buy carbon strips, and carbon pellets for around 12 bucks I believe, and place them around your room, for another DIY method. So something like that with a ventilator, or an Alen 35i will definitely help. (Given you also want to clean the air and do not want to get parasites/toxoplasmosis from your cat, you probably want to get a purifier either way, whether you get odor stuff or not.) Edit: for other good brands/units look at Winix, Coway, and Levoit. So a Winix 5520 has I believe some carbon in the filter, as does Leviot Vital S 200, a Levoit Core 300 etc. So perhaps 2 of those affordable units might do the trick, but you may have to replace the filters semi-frequently to continue to control the odor. So a Winix 5520 is 160 ? + a Levoit Core 300 is 90, so you can get both for 250. put on either side of litter box...and that would probably have a good impact.

r/AirPurifiersAlen BreatheSmart 35i vs BreatheSmart FLEX?

I believe they have multiple units called "Flex" which means its the same as the other unit,  but without the smart features/ionizer, so a little cheaper, but same size and otherwise same.  So you can get more coverage area with a Flex, if you dont need or want the smart features.  So on amazon the 35i is around 290-300, so for about 50 bucks more you can get the 45i Flex, which has bigger + better  coverage. (What I have and love.).   But I have a largish apartment, and have a lot of odor and mold from an old carpet I inherited here.  For maybe smallish apartment or normal ish 35i probably fine, so depends on how big your space is.  But they are excellent units, quiet, energy efficient, and lifetime warranty (when sticking with the filter replacement plan 9 or 12 months.).  The 35i is 11 pounds, 45i 15. Ideal coverage 700 sq feet vs 950.   The Flex I believe, is just either unit without the smart features/certain features.  So if you just want cheapest price/most coverage per dollar...go with a Flex.  If you want smart features then get the regular but you pay a little more for the smart features, vs a Flex of one size up.  So for me, id recommend pay a little more and get a 45i Flex for more impact, unless you really need/want the smart features.  (And again depends how big your space, what coverage you have etc.)   Get the more expensive filter with carbon layers for odor control, they go from 90-120 or so.)  and last about 1 year.

r/AirPurifiersAir Purifier for ~300sqft Studio Apartment
about 2 months ago

An affordable and long lasting one is Alen 45i, around 300-400 bucks and they have a lifetime warranty. (if you stay signd up with the filter replacement plan, with one every 9 or 12 months, your choice.) It has black carbon filter material, and is good overall, would be very good for a 300 sq foot area. Levoits are great for lonevity as I've had mine running continuously for 5 years...still going...most other affordable brands will break or have problems but the Levoits last forever. However, they dont have a huge amoount of carbon, only a litlte in some of the filters I think. If you can afford a lot consider the pricey units others are suggesting. I cant afford that and use a combination of levoits + an Alen + RIA Breezeguard (my best unit overall with carbon fiber layer + UVC + humidifier all built in, however it doesn't have a lifetime warranty but so far its been great after a few years. Around 400 I think. The RIA Breezeguard is bigger + pushes more air and has more options (also app/phone control.) But you prob wont need that so much in a small studio apartment. So if you want longevity/lifetime warranty and good effectiveness for the area you have...the Alen 45i is a good choice imo. If you had a bedroom then add a levoit in there for more coverage etc. The only downside to my Alen 45i is that it doesn't super forecefully move air on high, it just kind of goes pretty steady....but it lasts forever and for your small space, if placed in a decent spot where air is flowing...then would still be very good for now + long term. Add in more units once you move to a bigger space. You can also just buy some black carbon filters (for any brand really) and place a few around if you want to capture more odors, esp smoke. So Ria BreatheSmart great all-around unit with excellent features, good carbon, but unsure about longevity Alen 45i seems to meet all your needs with longevity, carbon, size etc. Levoits awesome for longevity as well (not lifetime warranty but they last a long time) but just so-so on carbon I think. (Don't know thier newer/more pricey models as my 2 100 dollars ones have lasted years....) Ofc I like all 3 brands and use all 3 in my bigger space (+ more in bedroom etc.)

As a fellow teacher, I understand this so much. I was in the exact same boat with dust and outdated HVAC in my classroom. When I was shopping around, I actually reached out to parents for small donations to help cover the cost — most were super willing to chip in, especially since everyone’s so germ-conscious these days. I used [this Redditor’s air purifier database](https://www.reddit.com/user/mammoth_digger56/comments/1k1t9o8/air_purifier_brands_compared/) to compare specs. I ended up buying an Alen 35i… It’s not cheap, but it’s been a game changer. I actually bought a second one for my home after seeing how well it worked. Might be worth checking out if you’re looking for something that can really handle the space.

Plus, they are literally BIFL, as they have a lifetime warranty. We have the same setup - Alen 75 in the main living space, but a 35 in our master bedroom suite.
