I own a Coway Airmega, BlueAir 311 Auto, and a Dyson PureCool. Coway is for the main living room/kitchen, BlueAir for kids rom, and Dyson for our bedroom. Overall the Coway is my favorite. It’s a beast and has a low cost of annual maintenance. Strongly recommend.
You’ll typically see the same top-rated models across Wirecutter, Consumer Reports, and Tech Gear Lab: the BlueAir Blue Pure 311i+ Max, Coway Airmega 1512HH, and Winix 5500. The best choice probably depends on the size of the space you’re trying to cover. For my downstairs rooms, I went with two BlueAir units (the 311 and 211 models). BlueAir offers a 25% discount for teachers, military, police, and possibly firefighters (can’t recall for sure), available in both the U.S. and Canada. They also offer a 15% discount on filter replacements if you sign up for a 6-, 9-, or 12-month subscription. For my upstairs office/bedroom—since it’s a smaller space—I went with the Coway Airmega 1512HH and have been happy with it.
I have a feeling that only the largest, most expensive purifiers will help and you will need more than one for 1500sqft. And they won't clear the stench immediately. Marijuana nowadays is very intensely stinky and seems to stick and linger. I'm reading a lot of posts about this problem and everyone is in apartments. I'm in a house with a backyard separating my two open windows from any neighbors and that stuff STILL gets trapped inside my house. I am woken early in the morning by it, like a skunk just sprayed in my backyard. And it lingers for hours. I don't know how that's even possible. I'm not even sure which neighbor is doing it. I can't hear or see anything. That's how far away they are. Since I'm in a house I can prevent the problem by closing my windows quickly at the first whiff of skunkiness. I would lose my mind if I could still smell it with all the windows closed. I have a BlueAir 311 and it does nothing at all for odors. Not sure if it does anything helpful. I would like to see laws banning outdoor smoking. That's the solution. And laws banning scented dryer sheets. Those smell like poison and engulf entire neighborhoods.
I have a Blueair 311 and really like it. Very quiet than other brands ive had, including Levoit
It’s honestly so good! I initially started with the 511, 5 years ago and recently just upgraded to the blue signature (during Black Friday) which is the prettiest out of the bunch! lol I’d absolutely get the 311 for our other rooms— gotta wait for another sale tho lol
I have BlueAir in all my rooms. Makes a significant difference for me.
It helps a lot. I bought it due to smoke but I’m happy to get rid of cooking and dog smells. I have one from Blueair.
We love our blueair also. Got a dog a month ago and happy to hear from guests our house doesn’t have a dog smell.
Seconding Blueair! We have a Levoit and a Blueair; while I have nothing bad to say about the Levoit, I personally prefer the Blueair (granted, it was about twice as expensive). We've got two medium-sized dogs, and - aside from the clumps of dog hair under the baseboards - you wouldn't know that we had any pets!
I love my blueair. It's highly rated for the price, and has a cloth sleeve you wrap around the outside and toss in the wash that prefilters out the husky fluff. If your pup is smelly it's probably oily, and needs either more roll in leaves and dirt time or more frequent bathing. A simple rub with a damp cloth frequently, like daily if you're not using soap, will work wonders.
