Blueair - Blue Pure 211i Max

I have a blueair 211i and 2 311is and I love them. I have noticed a significant decrease in dust and allergy symptoms. I recommend getting at least one for the bedroom and one big one for any open areas.

I like blue air. They’re high volume air filters, not full HEPA, but very close and should be good enough for allergens. For comparison the 211i max does 1500 ft2 in 30 minutes compared to 1000 ft2 with the rabbit A3 and is half the cost. The filtration level is less but the filters are cheaper and there is an allergen filter option. I’d also recommend getting filters for each major room you spend time in (living room, bedroom). Being 100 years old I don’t imagine you have an open floor plan so tailor your filters to suit the space you have them in. Think of each room as basically separate so you’re not filtering 3000ft2 you’re filtering 400ft2 several times.

I like my BlueAir filters too, and they scored highly on Consumer Reports. We have the 211i Max. When we have something noticeable in the air like burned food, they clear it quickly. They're very quiet on the lower settings, and not intolerable on the highest setting. My baby likes pulling to stand on them and poking the controls until the air flow changes. 😁 it's a nice rounded bottom-heavy design, pretty baby-friendly.

I'm also liking Coway. I got 3 of the 1512hh for the bedrooms and so far I'm linking them. Then I got the blueair 211i max and realized that the fabric is the pre-filter. I'm in Los Angeles so I got it because of the wildfires and possible asbestos but I'll be returning it because of this design. I didn't it try at, just took it out, saw how it's all attached together and tomorrow I'll send it back. Waste of time. I now got a Coway mega 1216l I hope it works better, it was only $100

Yes I know those are really good but they're so expensive. I don't really care where they're made but I just really don't like the idea of that stupid machine washable fabric as a pre-filter

Blueair’s Mac series are quite nice. Their blue line is good as well, just a little bit louder. They will perform well, overall. Consumer Reports shows the numbers, they speak for themselves. The 211i Max is $250, here in the US. Hitachi was even on their lists and only the Dyson Big+Quiet was ranked, right in the same range as the Blueair at twice the price. You won’t regret a blue air. I have 3, classic, blue and max series.

I wouldn’t recommend this model for a few reasons: The fan noise on high isn’t pleasant. For a bit more, you can get a much more effective air purifier. Units with filters on all sides like Blueair and Levoit models are more flexible to place in room and since there is more space on them, they last longer. A larger air purifier can be used on lower settings and get the same effectiveness, this also means lower fan noise. I recommend looking for a deal on the BlueAir 211i Max which was just $200 a couple of days ago. It is energy efficient, feature packed, and not noisy. Obviously, that’s twice the price, but in anything except for a bedroom - it’s worth it. Edit: for what it’s worth, I do own the model shown from Costco. It’s a bedroom air purifier for us.

I love my BlueAir 211i. It has a charcoal filter that filters out all the smells too. It has a washable fabric cover which makes it blend nicely with the furniture and it does not stand out too much.

Haha yes it does last a long time. BlueAir recommends we change filters every 6 months but I am sure environmental factors extend or reduce the lifespan of those filters. I have only had mine for 4 months. I’ll be washing the fabric soon to keep it working smoothly

Along with what UncleGurm said, instead of buying one large air purifier, it might be better to buy multiple smaller air purifiers and strategically position them in various places at home. So instead of buying one Coway 400, buying two Coway ap-1512 would be better in many cases. Also, if you are inclined to include a cheaper DIY option, a or multiple CR boxex might be a cheaper choice in the long run. You can check r/crboxes The cheapest method would be the usual 4x filtrete filters from Costco with a 20x20 box fan. Its performance would be equal to a much more expensive air purifier at much cheaper cost. The downsides are box fan could be loud, which could be mitigated by only turning them on when nobody is at home, and it doesn't look presentable. However, there are other DIY CR boxes that are more presentable and quieter that you can buy online. For me, i have multiple Coway AP-1512s and one Blue Air 211i Max that i bought for real cheap in rooms where I want to be more presentable. Then, I have two CR boxes in places where I don't care about being presentable such as in my garage gym. In the end, air purifiers can only do so much esp with a lot of pets. I think vacuuming and ventilating as often as possible are more important for odor and dander.

We are in the same boat - we have two dogs in a small house and I’m due next week. We’ve had a Blue Air purifier with the pet dander & dust filter and it seems to be working well - we have one big unit (i think the product is 211i Max) down in our first floor that was gifted to us from my in-laws two summers ago when wildfire smoke was really bad. We just bought the smaller version (411i Max) with the same filter for our bedroom. We had a purifier for our bedroom from Home Depot for a few years but it was not cutting it. The Blue Air’s are kind of pricey, but the filter life lasts a long time and I like that I can control them from my phone (fan speed, see how dirty the filter is, etc.) Also like that they’re not an eye sore and you can pick the color of the fabric that goes over the unit. We have the 211 Max and we also have the classic 405. I have a tiny 411 in my office.

None of those “high end” are that good even the Dyson. If I had to choose any of the 4 you listed I would choose the Blueair. I have not heard of air purifiers drying out the air nor have I experienced it. I would choose levoit 600s if you have it available. Relatively cheap, covers a large sq ft, cheap filters, excellent performance. Medifyair MA-50, levoit 600s or levoit Everest air, or blueair 211i. It makes a difference as to how much sq ft you are trying to cover. Make sure it’s one purifier per room as purifiers don’t clean air through walls.

Levoit core 600s (not the plasma pro version) Blue air has ionizers but some of them you can unplug and take out. I had the 211i max and just cut off the ionizer and covered it in electrical tape lmao. That jafanda 888 is good for large rooms. Also the really good air purifiers, statistically backed, look into “clean air kits” they are really legit. They look very diy but the numbers back up their efficiency. We have both Blueair and Rabbit (asthmatics with allergies in a region with wildfires and smog problems--we care about our indoor air). My partner is more fluent in these things and did most of the research but I'll relay what I can. BlueAir (we have the 211i): cheaper, lots of size options, esthetically fine, gets the job done. We have a bigger one in our kitchen and it comes on when we burn something and does its job. Last I looked, their tech is *close* to HEPA but not officially HEPA. They make claims that generally hold up but, as with most products, hold up a bit better in their company testing than in independent. I like our Blueair as a secondary where we wanted to spend less. Rabbit MinusA2: on the pricier side but ours has lasted FOREVER with routine maintenance. I think we bought it 8 years ago and it still works great. Back at that time, it was a top performer, but I haven't looked at the company in a while. This is the one we keep in the bedroom because air quality during sleep has a lot of impact for us. Replacement parts and filters can be pricey and were hard to find for a while but you can get good mileage out of them. Esthetically meh, but you can mount it on the wall the save floor/shelf space. Ours has an art facade on it that makes it a little better.  Honestly, I'd probably buy another Rabbit if I had the budget, but the BlueAir does its job fine. Noise is similar when both are running on higher settings but I think the Rabbit is generally just a hair quieter. I have had a weird high-pitched whir from the blueair that doesn't stick around. BlueAir customer service *sucks* and I've never needed to talk to customer service at Rabbit.

I went down the air purifier rabbit hole just a few weeks ago at the behest of my kids as I live in wildfire country. My search ended with a friend’s recommendation and corroborating research helping me decide on the Blueair 211i. Or something like that. It’s been pretty solid. It does NOT like it when you smoke weed. Gets pretty loud. So it’s helping me cut back! Hahahah. It does a great job as getting rid of odors. But I had maybe even better results with my DIY pc fans and Merv 13 filters dealing with cat “smells”.

Higher end air purifiers really help with overall air quality but you still need to vacuum and dust regularly. Cheaper purifiers don't seem to do much. Brands like **Coway**, **Blue Air** and **Alen** are really good. Some models have built-in particle monitors that tell you the air quality in realtime via an app. **BlueAir** has a new model called "**Dust Magnet**" that is supposed to remove >90% of dust particles before they settle. I don't own that model but have the 211i Max which is very effective and kicks into high gear whenever I cook or vacuum.

I've got a Blueair max 211i which does a great job.

I really like blueair units, especially on sale. Coway is my second option and winix would be the third. I don't like Levoit personally, sketchy marketing and problems with H13 claims apparently.

Np, btw the purifier will definitely catch some pet hair, especially if you are dusting and pump the machine to the max settings. It won't do magic and clean everything but it does help slightly, I have a dog that sheds a lot and my coway and Unix units trap a fair amount of hair on the pre filter. Where I noticed the most help is in my computer, I have an oversized air purifier and my computer catches waaay less dust than before.  Btw, the blueair 211i max is on sale right now, iirc bestbuy has it for 250 vs 350 msrp, I know it's over your budget but it's a very powerful machine

Whole house or the Blueair 211i Max…we have both! The Blueair 211i Max is fantastic, I always take one with us when we stay in hotels.

We have a couple of BlueAir purifiers (a 211i downstairs and 411i upstairs). I have noticed a significant reduction in the amount of dust that collects on furniture. And when I change out the HVAC filters every few months they are noticeably less dirty.

It's still not providing 4-5 air changes an hour to 3,000 square feet The SmartAir Blast Mini has a CADR of 435 CFM. It's rated for a max room size of 700 square feet. The BlueAir 211i Max has a CADR of 410 CFM. Max room size is in the 600s.

The Alen unit is overpriced for the CADR performance. BlueAir 211i, Oransi mod+ and Levoit Core 600S have higher performance and lower priced.

The Coway 400 smoke CADR is 285 and recommended for 442 sq ft with 8 ft ceiling based on 4.8 air changes per hour. They really inflate the room coverage. For dust you need a good HEPA filter and good air flow. Models with better performance at a lower price are BlueAir 211i, Oransi mod+ and. Levoit core 600s.

The Oransi, I don’t like that BlueAir has an ionizer that you can’t turn off and their filter life is shorter.

Air purifiers in the 250-400 CADR range are mass produced volume products sold at reasonably low margins. The filters are similarly more affordable and can be found everywhere. Larger air purifiers don't really have any advantages. They're generally more expensive to purchase, power and maintain for the amount of air volume they handle. For 950 sq ft I'd buy 3 Blueair 211i or 3 Winix C909 (Costco model) purifiers. Remember that the AHAM rated square footage on these units is based on (1) running them constantly on the loudest turbo mode and (2) having a lowish 8 foot ceiling height. The Winix C909's are notably less efficient, but they have separately replaceable carbon filters and easier to clean prefilters (washable screens vs fabric). Also, if you're concerned about noise you could buy 4-5 of either of these filters and run them on high (instead of turbo) to get similar coverage. The typical recommendation is to hit 5x air changes per hour - essentially to clean the indoor air at a rate faster than it's typically being exchanged with outdoor air. In my experience hitting 6-10x air changes per hour is actually a significant improvement over 5x though.

I have a 411i MAX in my bedroom and 211i MAX in the living/kitchen/dining area. I purchased directly from BlueAir and have been happy enough with them. I didn’t really read reviews beforehand but am happy to answer questions you have.

Another vote for BlueAir. I have a 211i Max and it actually did develop a slight noise. I emailed the company and they sent me a new motor—even though it was well past warranty. Great customer service

I live in Northern California (frequent wild fire smoke) and use the Blue Air 211i Max. It's not a true HEPA filter, but whatever filter they use works incredibly well. One of the most impressive things about it is the auto detect system. It's very sensitive and consistent. It will detect when I put out a candle from across the room. It's also been amazing for cook odors and pet dander-—we have 2 cats.

I have a BlueAir 211i Max and it's been great. There was a slight humming noise that started happening recently and they are mailing me a brand new unit even though it is a few months out of warranty. Great customer service.

I have the 121+ that was sold at Costco a few years back. I’d just get one similar to that in future for whatever model looks comparable. Ideally I’d be able to use the same filter but not sure that’ll be the case. Blue Pure 211i Max Looks most like mine

The key here is that this is a brand Costco has carried for years AND sells the replacement filters. I have this model in my son's room and it performs very well. Years ago, I bought (an awesome) BlueAir HEPA air purifier from Costco and they no longer sell the replacement filters. Those filters are crazy expensive, so that purchase turned into quite the "investment".

Blueair MAX models are their newest home purifiers, get them in the size you want-they're some of the quietest on the market and one of the if not the only brand certified QuietMark. Extremely efficient too. Not great at VOC removal but for just PM they're good.

I don't like the fabric design either. I just got a 211, because I need to clean a bigger room and it was the only good deal on craigslist. I can't imagine it being graceful to remove without making a dust cloud. I've also seen some comments that cats can interpret it as a scratching post... I've always had brand loyalty to coway (they lowered the cost of home air purifiers, right when I needed it); the cover keeps the dust contained, and their stack set-up of a prefilter, charcoal, then hepa makes clean-up much easier. I don't think I even need to take it outside. Winix has the same setup. I have one newer coway 150; these are more modern, and I don't like the sliding prefilter -- if you make the mistake of not letting it coast down and it's dirty, the air blows the dust around. Yuck.

If you’re smoking flower in doors, nothings gunna help, really. Vape it and it goes away much faster. I have a blue air filter(one of their big ones meant for like 1200sqft), in my room, I crack the window and blow a fan through it to pull the vapor out. Smells gone in about 30 minutes. Have to keep the door shut tho.

I also have a severe allergy to dust mites and we have to clean more often than this. I also had to strip off the fabric from my box spring because I didn’t feel like encasing it in a HEPA cover. HEPA mattress and pillow covers, washing sheets, pillows and blankets weekly in HOT water, steam cleaning carpets, furniture and curtains with high heat, and putting tea tree oil everywhere has helped me a lot. I use BluAir Air purifiers, but they don’t seem to help the dust as much as deep cleaning does. I put purified water and a dropper or three of essential oils (lavender and tea tree oil, usually) into a spray bottle and spray everything down, then dust and wipe down the room top to bottom. Then sweep and mop. Makes a world of difference. Sweep daily, mop 1-2x a week. Shower daily.

Having lived in fires and smog. Theres two easy brands to pick: Bluair (more expensive but rock - I have a few) Coway Back up is box fan with hvac filter (check which one for smoke / etc. Good luck!

I have terrible allergies and use Blue Air on every level. Works amazing.

Blue Air. You can wash the outer filter to catch big stuff like hair and pet fur. The inner filters last a while, I use mine for a year before replacing them. If you actually need it for allergies, disregard the automatic settings they offer - their sensors can’t pick up most allergens but rather just cooking smoke or something else really obvious. You want to run it at the highest speed when you’re in the room and one notch lower otherwise.

Researched this in depth after my flat had mould and I had to get rid of all the spores. The most efficient, effective and quietest solution is by Blue Air. They also look stylish and they have air quality indicator lights. The filter also last ages.

Blue Air, there is the internal filter that’s replaceable and out filter that is washable. They come in many sizes. I have them all over the house and it’s majorly helped w allergies and dog smell

It's absolutely worth it, especially if you have an open top cage. I use a Blue Air and it's fantastic in keeping the farm smell to a minimum. I also open my windows at least once a week and turn on all the fans for an hour to cycle in fresh air.

i love my blueair. i have two cats, one is as floofy as they come, and it keeps up easily. the outside cover is machine washable and i wash it every time i do laundry. my only complaint is the filters are pricey and they’re often sold out during allergy and wildflower season. you can’t find them on their website or amazon or anywhere. and the generic ones are garbage. i’ve learned to keep a couple extra on hand.

Seconded! I researched and purchased a Blue Air purifier during the Canadian wildfires. It's a top notch machine. Very quiet, simple to use, and does a hell of a job. I also enjoy its app connection that displays ambient PM2.5 pollution levels and lets you control the fan speed and such. If you want the app connection, be sure to purchase a model with "i" in the name. The company offers a generous discount for government workers, first responders, etc.
