When I went down the air purifier rabbit hole years ago, Blue Air came out on top in my testing. Winix and Levoit are okay, but definitely not BIFL since both died after about a year of fairly light use. Winix also developed an annoying high-pitched whine after a few months on 2 of the 3 brand new units I purchased. I wouldn't recommend either brand, honestly. A surprisingly effective and affordable air purifier turned out to be Ikea's [Starkvind](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/starkvind-air-purifier-white-smart-00461949/). $200 bucks and the replacement filters are just $35.00 (as of February 2026). I'm slowly replacing all of my older air purifiers with this model because not only does it work well, it's also very attractive and that matters to me too.

I have the 311i max and I really like it. I never knew air purifiers could be so good. I always thought it was a scam until I used one and noticed the difference. I have one in my living room and when we fry onions or something similar it goes off right away. Never knew they had an app.

Blueair works okay. It’s expensive but does work. Coway is definitely more performance for the money though.

I live in Southern California, and the filters are great for fire season to keep the air clean inside. They also help when other things are going on outside like skunks, kicked up dust, the neighbors’ smoky fire pits, or even when it’s a bad pollen day. I’ve tried various brands and I still like the Coway AirMega 200M (same as the AP-1512HH). It’s not the quietest at higher speeds, and it’s not tiny, but it moves the air and filters very well. There’s a reason it’s long been the top pick of Wirecutter. If you want some more style, the various BlueAir models, especially the Pure line are very nice and also work well. They’re a bit expensive though. If money is no object, Austin Air makes some highly regarded machines. In general, UV and ozone are gimmicks. The biggest thing to look at are the CADR ratings. Higher numbers are good, they mean the unit is delivering more filtered air quicker. Always check replacement filter prices, often a good deal on a machine means they make money on selling filters.

I have tried and gotten rid of Bluair and levoit- just inadequate performance and louder than I like. I replaced them with Medify and have been very happy with the switch. If memory serves I have an ma-50 in the living room and ma-40 is each bedroom.
