I have a Carrier central air purifier - Infinity Air Purifier DGAPA that comes with my central AC. I set the fan on low 24/7. Then I have two Blueair 7470i, one in my kids' room and one in the living room. I have severe allergies that every Spring I would wake up in the middle of the night and start sneezing/runny nose for at least two hours before being able to go back to sleep. As soon as I wake up in the morning, I'll start sneezing and runny nose until around lunch time. One of my boys is less severe but he would sneeze and runny nose once he wakes up. I've tried many different air purifiers, medication and methods over the years but nothing really helped until I moved into this house in 2022, I decided to try a central air purifier. Since then I would say I still sneeze and have runny nose in the morning but it's much much better than before. It's just a few sneezes in the morning. I haven't really been waking up in the middle of the night due to allergies and we adopted a dog last year! One time I had a friend over, both he and his son are allergic to dogs but both of them didn't sneeze once while they're at my house for about 4 hours and my dog was inside the house during their stay.
I second Levoit, we have almost one in each room. And we also have a Blueair large room. Both are a smart device connected and man the amount of dust the pull is scary.
I also have a couple of BlueAir and the scheduling feature for smart purifiers is very nice to have. I have it set to run on the lowest fan setting all the time which is so quiet it's undetectable, and ramp it up for a few hours in the afternoon right before we get home from work.
Multi level approach works well. - Decent filter you change more regularly for your HVAC (agree with others that MERV shouldn't be too high) - Clean floors, if you have carpet get a deep carpet cleaning annually - Room air filters. I've had luck with Blue Air. Have one jig one for living room and some small ones for the bedrooms. - Have you tried using regular saline rinses for your nose? I use the powder saline mixes with the plastic applicator from NeilMed, but there are others out there. While my allergies are pretty mild, I haven't needed to take any allergy medicine at all since using these.
Seconding Blueair! We have a Levoit and a Blueair; while I have nothing bad to say about the Levoit, I personally prefer the Blueair (granted, it was about twice as expensive). We've got two medium-sized dogs, and - aside from the clumps of dog hair under the baseboards - you wouldn't know that we had any pets!
I love my blueair. It's highly rated for the price, and has a cloth sleeve you wrap around the outside and toss in the wash that prefilters out the husky fluff. If your pup is smelly it's probably oily, and needs either more roll in leaves and dirt time or more frequent bathing. A simple rub with a damp cloth frequently, like daily if you're not using soap, will work wonders.
