Blueair - Pure 511i Max

I have a Blueair 511i max for my room which is 11ftlong and about 7ft tall and about 7ft wider does a decent job but I still get back I got for my stuffy nose and the dust which is does quite good at reducing the dust but my nose still feels horrible any suggestions I usually run it on 2-3 speed

Unfortunatly, i had at Blueair 411 formabout 5 years in the bedroom. It just stopped working. So I replaced it with the newer 511

BlueAir not having true HEPA and just a HEPA-type filter is fine. Multiple official testing sources show them pushing benchmarks similar to other true hepa rated units by popular brands. They still pull dust and still filter air just fine. They do have an ionizer and do produce extremely minuscule amounts of ozone. That’s why they’re certified. However, they are (especially the 511) weak units with a low CADR. If you want better performance, definitely return for a different unit or a stronger BlueAir model like the 211

I’m anti-Levoit right now after previously being a fan of their stuff - I had a Levoit Core 300 that developed a fan whine after a year. Went through the RMA process and they sent me a new one, which developed the same noise within a few months. I have several larger Honeywell purifiers throughout the house which have lasted several years, just wanted a smaller one for this smaller less-used room - been running a Blueair 511 in there for the past 6 months and it seems good so far, and very quiet.

Their CADR is in cubic meters per hour, where most purifiers specify CADR in CFM (cubic feet per minute). Multiple this by about .59 to change to CFM, so it's claiming \~250 cfm. (It's actually 264.) Most air purifiers at this price point (the blueair 411/511, the levoit core 200s) have a CADR of 100-150 CFM. 100 is actually sufficient for the room size (160 square feet) you're mentioning. If it's too good to be true and there's no information about them anywhere, then it usually is :)

I mean.... I mentioned the part about them having no reviews and being at a sketchily low price point of 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of everyone else. There are really only a handful of air purifier brands that have demonstrated reliability, affordability, and effectiveness over several years, and don't dabble in post-apocalyptic/steampunk decor -- coway, levoit, blue air, winix. If you want to pay more, there's iq air, alen air, and a few others. For $110, you could have bought a blue air 511 and almost a 411, a levoit 300, almost a Levoit Vital 100s, or a Winix a231. The winix 5500, the coway 1512, levoit vital 200, and the blueair 311 are all at this CADR, but for closer to $200.

We run 3 in our house, one in the main living area (diy pc fan with hvac filters), and one in each bedroom (blue air brand or something, I think). Also consider plastic on leaky windows (cheap sliders).

I have a few Levoit the same size as this one. I don’t really care for them compared to the Winix and Blue Air ones I have.

Love mine too. We got 3 and they’re holding up better than the Blue Air’s I got.

You say costs don't matter, but what does that mean? There are devices for thousands of dollars out there, and you'd need multiple in a home. My general suggestion is to find a balance between *total cost* (initial, plus ongoing filters, plus electricity) so you can maximize the benefit and not feel pinched. Wirecutter previously did some studies on total costs - you can try to find them online, but it's been some years. If you really have no cost, just get the largest air purifier you can fit for each room and run it at the highest speed. Your home may feel like a wind tunnel, and that means it's working. For most people, Blue Air is a good balance in these various aspects. They are affordable up front, filters from the OEM aren't too bad (and generics are available on Amazon), and they have an outer washable filter (so you don't waste the expensive inner one on say, pet hair, etc.). If it were me, I'd get a large one for the room I sleep in, and at least one or two others. Ignore any automatic sensor based setting they offer. At night, or when you're in the room, you want it on the highest setting possible, and during the day, turn it down just one notch. You want the air flow to circulate and air to essentially be "scrubbed" by the filters. Remember this is only a secondary or tertiary method of cleaning in terms of priorities. Your best bang for your buck is washing your bedding weekly (including the comforter) in unscented detergent, vacuuming or sweeping, and having good airflow in your home to prevent dust and mold build up (leave bathroom and closet doors open). Use your A/C generously to keep humidity levels down in the humid months and for the sake of your sinuses, use a humidifier in the dry cold winter months if your climate has them.

BluAir (Swedish) is what we used in the middle east.

I have a Blue Air and it works great. It definitely cut down on the dust in our bedroom. My kids have the Levoit purifiers in their college apartments. They must work because one daughter just asked if she could order some new filters because hers is dirty. The other said that something smells awful in the main room (that she shares with roommates), but she can’t smell anything in her room.

We have multiple Blue Air and a Coway. Happy with all of them. Frequently available on sale.

Blue Air, there is the internal filter that’s replaceable and out filter that is washable. They come in many sizes. I have them all over the house and it’s majorly helped w allergies and dog smell

It's absolutely worth it, especially if you have an open top cage. I use a Blue Air and it's fantastic in keeping the farm smell to a minimum. I also open my windows at least once a week and turn on all the fans for an hour to cycle in fresh air.

Blueair. Consumer reports did a study on air purifiers and it's basically the only one that actually works. The rest are garbage.

Sorry, what "air quality problems"? Can't say we've noticed any, with our 3 air purifiers running 24/7 in a one-bedroom apartment... 😉 (Both of us have pollen allergies and one of us has asthma.) That should answer your question. Seriously, buy an air purifier. Once you feel the difference you'll probably end up getting a few more. We've got two of the medium Coway models (Airmega AP-1512HH or 200M) and a smaller BlueAir. They also help with smells -- bathroom, pet, or cooking. Highly recommend the Coways because they: * Are whisper-quiet on all but the highest setting, and can auto-adjust (though we usually leave them on medium because they get loud if they kick into high). * Move a lot of air for their size * Have filters that last way longer than they're rated for (as long as you clean the prefilter) * You can turn the main light on the purifier off for use in a bedroom at night Tip: it's better to get several medium air purifiers and put one in each room or area rather than getting just one big one.

There's also the Winix D360/480 series as a Home Depot exclusive, which doesn't have ionizers and has a pretty high CADR rate. I don't think there are after-market filters but Winix said they continue to manufacture filters for 10 years after so maybe you won't have problems. I'm eyeing it. Honestly my first air purifier was BlueAir and I loved it. Dead silent on the first setting (I think having a vertical fan helps), and I could run it on the high setting all day. I have birds and had no idea about the ionizer though. I've gone through one Honeywell which made my room smell like a plastic pool toy, and I'm not so happy with the return-replacement either, I ran it on turbo today and got a pretty big headache and felt like I was having trouble breathing, which sounds insane but it stopped when I turned it off. I'm almost tempted to just go get another BlueAir and remove the ionizer manually, but I also know that their CADRs are based off of ionizer on, and the larger sizes have significantly more expensive filters.

A good furnace filter taped to a fan so it pulls air through it will works well. I’ve got a couple blueair units mostly because the fans are nice and quiet and they look nice so I can use them year round.

BlueAir is pretty great and affordable. Their filters also have a carbon coating to help with ozone. Filters will probably be need to be replaced very 4-6 months so keep that in mind.

Blueair has been awesome for our basement, dogs, cats, sometimes chickens and always a burning fire for the wood stove and you would honestly have no idea all of that was going on. I wfh in the basement sometimes and I could tell that without that I was feeling gunky. Buying it made a huge difference!

Coway, GermGarurdian, and Blueair are all top rated. I personally have 2 blueair they work great I have 2 cats and my thanksgiving guests couldn’t smell them or their litterbox at all!

I have the Coway and had it for the last coupe of years B it I recently switched to the blueair purifier and am very happy. They also happen to look good.

Do not buy an Alen, they are not worth the money. I have two Alen and one Blueair purifier. The BlueAir is better and was cheaper.

Winix aren’t bad, blueair is one of the best performing. In my opinion, it’s worth the cost. I’d rather have a product that works AND fast, versus a mid product that was on the cheaper side.

I love Dyson too but the cost is wild and their filter’s are also costly. Blueair is a sweet spot, in my opinion. Not too much up front and filters aren’t terrible.

Ionizers create ozone, and when ozone reacts with different molecules it creates all kinds of new compounds that can’t be predicted. Yes we use Blueair and they make a huge difference especially with dog related smells or puppy accidents. Just make sure you get an air purifier that is built for the size room you will be putting it in. Also account for filter replacement costs.

With mold the only one that changed my life was IQ Air. I also use a Miele vacuum cleaner with hepa filters inside, for everyone that's saying "just vacuum." Neither appliance is negotiable to me, I use both. I'll never use a vacuum without hepa filters again, otherwise you're blowing a percentage of the dust/dirt around in the air. I tried several BlueAir and an Austin, they were meh.I wish I hadn't wasted so much money on the Blueair.

Blue air , have had mine for years and run it 24x7 and just change the carbon hepa filter every 6 months

I have done this exact thing in my shop. I have a blueair purifier that runs full time, and it seems to do the job just fine. The room is fully enclosed with a sliding pocket door, and I have one of those outdoor rugs just outside to limit the amount of crud I bring in on my shoes. When I go to clean the floor I just crank the blueair to its highest setting and let it do its thing.

Levoit are good entry purifiers with a lot of feedback on Amazon. Then I like Blueair too.

I've had a Blueair cleaner for about 5 years. It's amazing the difference it makes. Also the filters are a wildly different color when I replace them. I like that it has a night mode with a silent fan and no lights. My partner got a Cuisinart one (goes on sale at Cdn Tire regularly) for his mother because her PSWs kept showing up sick and making her sick. She literally never got sick in the two years after it was running. The filters for all purifiers is where they make the money (the machine is just a fan in a plastic box). Check to make sure the filters are easily available and a price you're willing to pay.

I’m a fan of BlueAir. Just keep in mind you’re not doing the house with a plug in air filter, you’re doing a room.

We have Blueair in the nursery and living room. And the animals are not allowed in the nursery overall. Also I just try to vacuum regularly when possible. You may want to consider a roomba or something similar that runs on a schedule to keep fur and dander down if it's a concern.

An air purifier may help rid the air of biological contamination from the urine, but I don't know how well it will address the odor if it's too strong. My recommendations based on personal experience with Air Purifiers (though not specifically for urine) would be BlueAir purifiers and RabbitAir (if you have the money). RabbitAir stopped d@mn near all allergies in my house, and it tends to be used in cigar shops. In fact, call a cigar shop and see what they use. I didn't know they used purifiers until a coworker said it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Either way, I highly recommend Woolite Advanced Pet Stain Remover Spray. Use it whenever/wherever incontinence has occurred, along with any other cleaning routine. It may seem weird, but I used it when I started potty training one of my kids. My daughter had undies on, but would still pee everywhere. She wouldn't exactly tell me that, of course. I'd run across random wet spots throughout the house 😒. I'd use the Woolite to immediately address the spot and put a little pad over it to mark the spot until it dried. It sanitizes and it smells pretty good. I also like the Febreze Sanitizing Spray. Not the other ones, just the Febreze SANITIZING spray with an Orange cap. It has a good scent. Hopefully you find what you need and can maybe convince FIL to at least use a portable urinal when he feels the urge. My dad doesn't have dementia, but he's old enough to find the bathroom process too overwhelming for him. He has found a bedside urinal to be quite helpful to him. Just a thought!

Would probably go BlueAir.  Shark is a gimmick. And levoit filters are known to be little more than dust catchers.

Have IQAir and BlueAir. Would recommend the IQAir 1000%!!! BlueAir is ok but the filters are small and replace more often. Build quality of IQAir is amazing, filters last forever, and carbon filter is heavy so there’s a lot of carbon in there to remove odors. 

I have two Blueair units. The Blueair integration works well and I’ve never had any issue with it.

We have a mix of Conway and Blueair purifiers of various throughout the house, usually set to run on low/auto. They do help. I also like that it keeps the unfinished basement air much fresher. It’s still dusty but helps the airborne stuff.

We have a Blueair as well and like it a lot. We keep it near the kitchen and it's light night and day if we happen to burn something in there. Any of the rooms past the air filter barely smell. I also have two cats and I definitely notice a difference in my asthma when I'm regularly running it vs. when I'm not.

I have multiple Blueair air purifiers and do not use an app. When I need to change the filters, the light turns red. It looks like their newer units have app integration so I don’t know if that would bother you. Don’t know if it’s required for setup. I have been very happy with blueair. The outer pre-filters do put up a lot of dust and I can throw them in the wash. I would definitely recommend blueair.

Love Blue air. We've got 3 of them of varying models. Recommended by our allergist dr. But we also keep an immaculately clean house.

There was a cbc review of them all and they found Blueair were really good so I got two of those. They adjust based on the air quality, work really well.

Also love our BlueAir. It has reduced dust on surfaces, helps with pet smells and has substantially lessened my seasonal allergy symptoms while in the house. Highly recommend.

The only reason to have a "smart" air purifier is if your electric company charges peak rates during certain times and you don't want to run it during those times. Otherwise you should just be leaving it on. The one in your picture is made for a small room. You have to look at the square footage on the box and compare it to the square footage of the area you want to use it in. I would not recommend the winix 5500. I bought 2 a few years ago and both had the bearings go out after a couple years of usage. Turns out it's a common issue. My blueair I bought at the same time still works great.

I have blueairs and Dyson. Both make a dramatic and perceptible difference in air quality. I can now paint my nails in the house and not choke out anyone who enters the room, or risk giving the cat (or myself) brain damage.

Thirded. Did a bunch of research last year, and BlueAir seemed to have best bang for your buck. Although you'll find complaints it doesn't use a "real" HEPA filter it gets rid of smells well. If you want a "real" HEPA filter and are budget conscious nothing really beats 4 furnace filters and a box fan.

Blueair works okay. It’s expensive but does work. Coway is definitely more performance for the money though.

Do you care about VOCs or just particulates?  The best might be Austin Air and a few similarly expensive brands but that's mostly because they filter stuff like VOCs.  I think dust is probably particulates.  I'm not exactly an expert.  If money is no object and you care mostly about particulates, it might be a matter of having multiple air purifiers.  You definitely want one with a HEPA filter.  If you care about VOCs, this list strikes me as reliable because it's specific and because it explains why most air purifiers are somewhat limited: https://www.mychemicalfreehouse.net/2023/01/the-5-best-activated-carbon-air-purifiers-compared.html.  Personally, I've been happy with my Winix and my BlueAir, but I think the Winix is a little better and neither is quite perfect.  If money is really no object, one of the expensive ones on that list will probably help but may or may not be necessary if you're only concerned about dust.

They can’t even get there stats straight on their own website. In three different sections of the product description it switches between 1200 and 1000 sqft coverage. I also didn’t see it list stages of filtration which is a red flag, just that it has HEPA. As others have said Winix is good. I used to smoke a lot of weed and had 4 different air filters in my house. The LG towers are great blue air also makes great ones rabbit air is a lesser known brand and spendy but with all these filters I never lost a security deposit.

I also live in a city with bad air pollution. I live in the southwestern US and we experience severe wildfire smoke in the summer. We have a big dog who sheds a lot, too. I have been wanting to get air purifiers for around the house. I recently got a blueair air purifier to see if I like it and if I notice any difference. According to the built-in sensor, we have excellent indoor air quality. The only times I see a spike are after showers. I've had it for about a month and I recently took the filter out to see if there was any noticeable dust or anything and it seemed pretty clean. Granted it isn't wildfire season yet. But given what I've seen so far, I'm not ready to buy them for other rooms in the house since it is quite an investment and I haven't seen anything that makes me think it's effective.

Blueair is nice. They have all sizes depending on your needs. Super quiet. And wifi connected, so easy to adjust remotely).

Strongly recommend auli - love it! I think they have a new model now. Had a Dyson before this for home, and a Blueair for the office - auli performs better than both! And it looks quite good actually - has a lamp. Most of the purifiers I’ve used have been quite comparable in performance, but they all looked pretty bad. Hated my big Dyson the way it looked, but the performance was good. auli solved the design part. It is a bit expensive though, but similar to the popular ones. I feel it’s worth it. I have a Dyson, BlueAir, and Levoit in various areas of the house. Levoit is near the litter box and is loud but does a good job - we never smell the litter box. Our favorite is the BlueAir in our bedroom - we keep it on auto mode 24/7. It’s super quiet and seems to work well. The Dyson is our most expensive one and we would probably not buy again. We like that it’s also a fan when it’s warm, but it doesn’t perform any better than the BlueAir which was a fraction of the cost.

Are they necessary, no. But I recently went through the same thought process. I bought a couple of blue air purifiers. Their sensors suck and the auto setting barely did anything unless I literally blew smoke at them. So I bought a decently high end sensor, a little ADHD. What I've noticed is that when I open the house at night and the outside air quality is around say 5 to 9 ppm and I close up in the morning, the filters bring the house to below 1ppm within an hour or so. Then the question is does low levels of particulate matter matter much and all studies say it does. My two cents.

I use BlueAir. They can detect particulates in the air and adjust the fan as necessary.

I need an air purifier due to allergies and living next to a highway. Not zero waste, but the best option I found is blue air which is a cert b company and their filters are recyclable.

Love how angry my BlueAir gets when I saute onions. The happy blue light turns red and it cranks right up.

I am currently running the house special of "I bought whatever was on sale at the time." So I have a mix of Levoit, Winix, Blueair, and a couple of decades old Honeywells to round it out. My AC system also has a "circulate" option and has a built-in HEPA filter and UV light. I monitor it all with a Airthings 2960 (one upstairs, one downstairs). Currently, I am trying to consolidate to a single brand (settled on Levoit - 300 and 600 sizes) just to make filter replacement simpler. Trying to get to a 6mo filter replacement schedule (currently closer to 4mo here in Texas, thanks to all the allergens). From my testing, here's the short version - as long as it moves air and has some sort of filtration, it'll probably help the air quality in your home. Everything else - air quality monitoring, app access, noise level - it's all bonus features that don't really affect the overall performance of the device. According to my Airthings AQ monitor, they do make a difference. I see VoCs and PM1 and PM2.5 go down when you ramp up the filter fan speeds. For recommendations - Level 1 - regularly change the air filter that your home uses - go cheap and replace more frequently rather than going expensive and hoping it lasts longer. Also, vacuum and dust regularly. Level 2 - bang-for-the-buck is the Corsi–Rosenthal box - and it will always be what I recommend to people who are trying to figure out if air filters will make a difference for them. Level 3 - buy the system that moves the most amount of air and has replacement filters that don't cost an arm and a leg. Levoit, Winix, Blueair, are all honestly decent systems - and if you open them up to replace their filters, you find out that they're really just doing the same thing the Corsi-Rosenthal is. They're just intake fans sitting on top of a filter. As price goes up, you're really just paying for things like automation (fan automatically ramping up when it senses high particles), noise reduction, filter change nagging, etc. My suggestion is to buy whatever goes on sale next time and stick with the brand/size for ease of maintenance. Minimum size I'd recommend is 1000sqft even if your home/room is smaller than that. The max room size is calculated by their highest fan speed - chances are, you probably won't be running it that high all the time. It is better to get multiple smaller units that are local to the area you're using versus a single large unit for a big space. These do not move air vigorously (less than your standard fan) - so even if they say they'll do "3000sqft" - they are assuming you're in a single rectangular room with only four walls. If your home is 2000sqft with lots of rooms and hallways, a single unit will not work. However, the number one thing about any air filter is that they are a continuous cost and will only work as long as you are regularly replacing their filter media. At least with air filters you will be able to see exactly what they're doing when you replace them - mine are usually pretty grey-looking by the time I take them out. Oh, I wouldn't bother with all of the fancy filters (like pet, charcoal, or whatever) unless you have a very specific need for them. Those are are mostly gimmicky. Air quality monitors (like the Airthings) are also not needed - and in fact, many of the higher end filters have particulate sensors in them. It's mostly informational for people like me who just really wanted to know if all of these filters actually did anything. Plus, AQ monitors don't tell you *what* the stuff in the air is, they just tell you it's high. I found out that vaporizing humidifiers make PM sensors show deep red spikes because they're literally throwing tiny bits of water into the air (but it's not specifically a negative thing - especially when you're trying to raise humidity). For the "do they work?" question, my answer is "Eh... sorta." They definitely help with things like odors (such as from cooking or pets). I have not noticed a huge decrease in dust build up (but my house is not sealed in any shape). I definitely notice that my allergies get worse when I go outside versus hiding in my house, but it's not like they're completely eliminated when I'm home. So for me at least, they help, but they're not some sort of miracle cure that'll magically fix everything.

Get a Winix 5500. I have 4 throughout my house for 5 years. It's got a lot of carbon for smells, has a pre filter to catch dog hair, and is easy to maintain. One issue you'll have with automation is if the machine will turn back on to whatever setting after being off. Air purifiers have a huge price and quality range. I also have the one you are showing, it's enough for a bedroom or home office. I have a blueair that's nice, but expensive for what it does.

I have 3 from BlueAir. They’re quiet, I haven’t noticed a smell.

Levoit gets you the best bang for your buck, especially if you upgrade to the toxin filter. If you want to splurge, BlueAir is the best product out there.

Absolutely. You should have one even if Canada wasn't spewing nasty chemical ash. Levoit is reccomended a lot and they are good for the price.Blueair is also solid if you prefer the looks. The bigger the room, the larger the purifier so figure where you spend the most time and go from there. 

I have a couple of Blueair purifiers and I'm happy with them. True HEPA is not crucial, and does not necessarily indicate superior performance.

I'm not quite sure what you're worried about, but I think air purifiers are worth it regardless. I have two Blueair ones that work well for me. I also got a Dyson stick vacuum because I notice the dog hair a lot more and vacuum at least twice a day now.  Kids who grow up with animals in the house are less likely to develop allergies and asthma. Make sure they're up to date on their deworming and flea and tick preventatives. 

Blueair. My son climbed on it and peed. After some clean up it still works.

Have 3 of those around the house, has been flawless 24/7 for 4 years, moves tons of air.

Coway - I also have some other ones (smartair and blueair) but coway has actual hepa and the filters are relatively easy to find

Blueair is highly rated by Consumer Reports. We have several, they work great.

We have BlueAir purifiers from Costco, I think they were $99 for a pack of two. Super noticeable difference, even just the fabric pre-filters catch a lot and their appearance varies from room to room (ex. dust in the bedroom, cooking oils in the kitchen) which leads me to believe they’re working!

We have a Blueair purifier in our bedroom and another one in the family room. I make sure to vacuum the headboard as well as the carpet. It really helps. We've had it over a year and haven't had to change the filter.

IQAir by a mile. I have a purifiers from Conway (nice, not expensive), Blue air (prettier, work), Levoit (not worth it IMHO), and IQ Air. By far, the IQ Air is the best of the bunch. Better filters. beefier construction. quiet and powerful. Pricy.

The key here is that this is a brand Costco has carried for years AND sells the replacement filters. I have this model in my son's room and it performs very well. Years ago, I bought (an awesome) BlueAir HEPA air purifier from Costco and they no longer sell the replacement filters. Those filters are crazy expensive, so that purchase turned into quite the "investment".

I don't mind levoit for the money, we have about 8 of them in various sizes, but if I had to do it again I would have bought all blueair. They're incredible and the best thing is that they have this washable cloth sleeve (pre filter) that goes over the entire intake which happens to wrap all the way around. It does such a good job that the actual internal filter stays significantly cleaner and doesn't need to be cleaned or changed as often. It's a game changer. This is based on years of use and experience with numerous air purifiers.

I feel your pain. I just got a blueair for my general space, but will get a small Ikea unit for the washroom. My neighbours smoke between 11pm-4am... and last night was a doozie

Most are pretty similar these days. I have Winix, Dyson, Blueair, and Levoit (7 total) and I’d recommend any of them.

I also like my BlueAir. It work gud.

How much are filters these days? I got one of those blueair ones for like $90 a few years back. Replacement filter is $30 but you can clean it out and keep it going for a bit

I really like my blue air purifiers. There's nothing smart about them but they're reliable and do wonders for dog hair.

1. You don’t really want an app. It is t useful in any way. Why? Because the sensor on the unit isn’t accurate, so the app won’t really tell you if your air is clean. Also because the only way to clean air is to run the unit on a constant speed 24/7. So unless your use case is very specific (vacation home, away for long periods, etc.) then an app isn’t helpful. 2. Shark is junk. Levoit cleans air just fine but is not HEPA, if that matters. Blue air is the best of the three, also isn’t HEPA but has a static generator which bothers some people. 3. Consider winix or Coway. They’re better in every way.

I run a Coway 24/7 in my bedroom. My kids run Blueair 24/7. You’re overthinking this. They all clean air.

Blueair imo because they have washable prefilters, and pet hair and dander is large and honestly doesn't need HEPA filters to clear it out the way, say, smoke does.  That being said, a robot vacuum that runs daily will be more useful overall than a filter, and a nice hand vacuum you don't mind using for upholstery

Blue air. The prefilter is washable. The allergens you're mentioning don't require a HEPA filter, so it's the prefilter doing most of of the work for you.  The biggest fix for indoor allergies is to clean your house, though. Vacuum daily, wash bedding weekly, blinds vs shades or curtains, put knickknacks inside cabinets not open shelves so it's easy to dust, etc. 

IQAir is the best. Austin is #2. I got an Austin air healthmate plus. I wish I got an IQAir. If you only have allergies and don’t need VOC’s filtered you probably don’t need Austin or IQAir. I typically tell my friends get something like a Conway and make sure it circulates enough air for their space. I got a Blueair years ago and it still runs like a champ.
