Durable, effective for allergens/odors, but loud on high.

The common area. I purchased the tabletop exhalaron. But the cheaper luggables could work. space.https://www.cleanairkits.com/collections/shop-all
Using high flow computer cooling fans on lower speeds can produce high air-flow filtration at quite low sound intensity. Clean Air Kits make [a small-room table-top unit](https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/exhalaron) that moves plenty of air (120+ cfm) at 34 dB. (I have no connection to them other than using and recommending their products.)
Some studies have shown high flow air purifiers placed between people at a table to be somewhat effective. Clean Air Kits makes [a quiet high-flow device](https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/exhalaron?shop_consented_scopes=email%3Averified+openid+pay%3Asession_token+profile+shop%3Aaccount_uuid&shop_sign_in=true#:~:text=Inspired%20by%20Cross,tackle%20this%20scenario) that may be suitable for OP: > [U of Colorado, Donghua & Marriot](https://www.ashrae.org/File%20Library/Technical%20Resources/ASHRAE%20Journal/2021JournalDocuments/October2021_28-39_Zhai.pdf) [experiments](https://www.mdpi.com/2075-5309/11/8/329) demonstrated that a 98 CADR cfm purifier on a 4-person table will directly capture about 3/4 of exhalations before they cross the table, reducing virus deposited on occupants up to 95%. It's not perfect protection (but neither is masking or test screening). Infection is a function of viral load, exposure time, immune response, and luck. Each step we take to reduce risk factors works in our favor.

I have no argument with test screening using a nucleic acid amplifying molecular assay as you suggest. But it's not what OP asked; OP asked for an air purifier which might help protect them. There's no perfect protection besides isolation. Infection is a function of viral load, exposure time, immune response, and luck. Each step we take to reduce risk factors works in our favor. I use nucleic acid amplifying molecular test screening (Pluslife) and high-flow air purifiers to mitigate risk when I occasionally choose to socialize indoors, un-masked.
34 dB is a measure of sound intensity. That level is equivalent to a soft whisper or the hum of a refrigerator.
https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/exhalaron Or https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/triple-exhalaron-stylish-compact-for-medium-rooms I had one in my old econobox and it cleaned up the car inside air super well during all the bad air days we’ve had. Runs off USB-C so I plugged it into a USB cigarette lighter adapter.
MUCH quieter. Engineer Wong uses very loud industrial fans. CleanAirKits uses premium whisper quiet high-static-pressure PC fans. And the fans themselves get better each year, as the manufacturers know how many are being used for CR Boxes and for silent PC builds, and have been optimizing not only for turbulence vibrations and low frequency sounds, but also high-pitched wines that may manifest themselves only under certain power scenarios. We own four AirFanta 3Pro units and about ten different units of varying models of CleanAirKits - and they’re all great - but they’re optimized for different circumstances. I’d have to say my favorite portable model of CleanAirKits is the Exhalaron, my favorite for home use - especially bedroom - use is the Luggable XXL, and we love the AirFanta for travel and use hotel rooms l, and even in the trunk space of our SUV for use the car.
If you're driving a car that you own, then upgrade the cabin air filter to a HEPA filter if you haven't already. Keep the car's fan running as it brings it quite a bit of fresh air. I've seen this ventilation keep the interior's CO2 levels near outdoor air levels or just above even with 2-3 people in the vehicle. Then I've used a Clean Air Kits Exhalaron in the middle of the back seat to mix/filter the air that's farther away from the vents.
