Clean Air Kits. I have several 9-fan Luggables. Powerful and silent, and the air filters are not proprietary

A much quieter and more acceptable option is to make a computer-fan-based Corsi-Rosenthal Box. [CleanAirKits.com](http://CleanAirKits.com) has some great kits that I would argue are BIFL. They require no knowledge or tools and can be put together by anyone in about 10 minutes. Obviously the filters need to be replaced every 6 months. And anything with moving parts (such as a fan that is running nonstop 24/7) will eventually break, but new computer fans are $12 each and you can replace one in just a few minutes without any tools instead of throwing out an ungodly expensive certified HEPA filter and replacing it. As others have mentioned, size of room matters. I have 3 of their XXL Luggable CR-Boxes spread throughout the house. They're crazy quiet, I can have one running right next to my TV without it distracting or annoying us. The filters are whatever high quality MERV-13 you want to buy at Lowes. (There's a discount at Lowes if you buy 4+ filters at a time). And CleaAirKits' optional black plastic grills make the air filters look good while protecting them from pets. (Note -- I have no relationship with the company other than as a happy return customer.)

Check out cleanairkits. Super quiet, rate higher than most big brand names. We have the “luggable “ model. Great you tube review on it as well and how it compares to comercial ones.

We have one in every room of our home. We also have a HEPA filter and UV air scrubber on our furnace. I have asthma, we get wild fires every year, have indoor cats, and since Covid, it’s always respiratory virus season. We have a few different models from BlueAir to Levoit. My favorite is the Luggable from Clean Air Kits. It looks like furniture, is whisper quiet, and you can use HEPA furnace filters instead of buying a proprietary subscription filter. I’m 100% a believer in clean air. Over Christmas two of my kids had nasty influenza A. We ran filters on high, cracked windows open as able, and wore masks when together in common areas. Three of the rest of us came through without getting sick at all. I haven’t had a virus in 3+ years. And I can count the number of illnesses for all 5 of us combined on one hand in that time. My kids are in middle school/high school, so they are able to self manage handwashing, staying away from visibly sick kids, etc. But they play sports, attend public school, ride the bus, etc.

As others have mentioned, build yourself a Corsi-Rosenthal cube or get a cleanairkit that uses MERV 13 filters. I'm severely allergic to dust and dust mites and I have been astounded at the amount of dust my cube picks up. We even bought a 3d printed frame for ours off of Etsy so it looks a bit nicer than a bunch of air filters with tape. I've had one running in my home continually for 2 years. Equally if not more important: get rid of every shred of carpeting and decorative rugs in your home. I have a small rug under my desk chair to protect my hardwood floor and that is all.
