Airmega AP-1512HH Mighty
Durable, effective for allergens/odors, but loud on high.

Running these analyses costs money. Buy through my links to help keep lights on! I may get a small commission.
Yeah, as long as you don't mind some easy assembly (they typically take me 30 minutes), the ones that use computer fans and MERV 13 furnace filters are the best performing - they are quiet, have a high clean air delivery rate, and have a large air envelope. Having a big air envelope means they move more air around, and so particulates in the air get removed more quickly, since the air is moving around more. I have a bunch of the [CleanAirKits Luggables](https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/luggables), they are great. There is also the [Nukit Tempest](https://cybernightmarket.com/products/the-nukit-tempest-pro-complete-air-purifier-kit-usa), although the tariffs have made it more expensive. 2000 square feet is a LOT. With four of the XL Ultra Luggables, you'd have 1333 cfm of smoke CADR, which is the recommended amount according to AHAM. That said, you could start with one or two of them, and see whether that's enough for your space. More units also helps since the reach of any single unit is limited. These type of air cleaners are by far cheaper to run than HEPA-based cleaners. You have to take into account the cost of replacement filters and the electricity cost. HEPA cleaners use a lot more electricity.
Best youtube video to help you learn about this topic: https://youtu.be/gaQTYrisieA?si=Oi5GVFYPETPBXTOs I ended up getting three of these: Luggables – CleanAirKits https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/luggables These use two 20x30x1 MERV13 filters each, and are VERY QUIET! And three of these: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1701909167/model-b-wall-fan-edition I got the Model B sized for 20x30x1 inch filters (MERV13) and the AC Infinity S14 fan. We were in a very leaky house that was getting a lot of air pollution indoors. It took all of those fans to remove the PM2.5 levels down to negligible levels. At our current house, which is much better sealed, we're just running one of the Model Bs and the three luggables from CleanAirKits, and the PM2.5 levels are fine. I have AirGradient Indoor and Outdoor monitors to check on the PM2.5 levels, etc. P.S., the 3M MERV13 Filtrete filters (1900 MPR) are the best.
She's just doing the box fan Corsi-Rosenthal air cleaner. There's a zillion articles and Youtube videos about the Corsi-Rosenthal box fan air cleaners. The Model B is just a very high end version of this concept. . If you want absolute quiet, the computer fan CleanAirKit luggables are very efficient and quiet
The key here is that you want something that is quiet, puts out a large amount of airflow, and where the filters are effective, non-proprietary, easy to find and not too expensive to replace. And so I've become a huge convert to the idea of fan designs mated with MERV 13 HVAC filters, which fall into the general heading of Corsi-Rosenthal air filters. Here's a repost of an earlier reply I had made on this forum: Best youtube video to help you learn about this topic: [https://youtu.be/gaQTYrisieA?si=Oi5GVFYPETPBXTOs](https://youtu.be/gaQTYrisieA?si=Oi5GVFYPETPBXTOs) I ended up getting three of these: Luggables – CleanAirKits [Luggables – CleanAirKits](https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/luggables) These use two 20x30x1 MERV13 filters each, and are VERY QUIET! (put out about 800cfm) And three of these: [https://www.etsy.com/listing/1701909167/model-b-wall-fan-edition](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1701909167/model-b-wall-fan-edition) I got the Model B sized for 20x30x1 inch filters (MERV13) and the AC Infinity S14 fan. you don't want to mitigate the virus, but only VOC, germs, dust, pollen and smell? I ask because the recommandation is very different, to be in conformity with Ashrae 241 for prevention of infections. If so, one of the best air purifier for classroom is Luggable XL 7 Sickleflow, because of the low noise level (wich is very important in a classroom). you will have to install more than one in the class. In a classeroom you need 42 cfm/pers X 40 per = 1680 cfm in ventilation (less the fresh air ventilation alresdy in place). the Luggable XL 7 sickleflow has dust CADR of 323 cfm
I have the luggable with some different pc fans as I bought the fanless kit. Works great with the Costco 3m merv 14 filters which are on a great sale atm.
Costco sells the c909 online I’m not really a fan of the 610 tbh as there’s no separate pre filter I have one of the xl luggables from clean air and it’s pretty great for air flow to noise. I bought the fanless kit and use 3m merv 14 filters from Costco in it.that may be pushing your budget tho as there’s fanless kit is like 150 even with a 5% discount code. And then you need filters and fans. even with buying something like two artic p12 pro 2000rpm low noise 5 pack and say Costco 3m filters for 35. That would put you at like 250+ cost.
Clean Air Kits Luggbales Like a CR box but very quiet. Low energy usage. Takes regular MERV-13 filters you can buy anywhere [https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/luggables](https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/luggables)
I purchased 2 Luggables — a 5-fan and a 7-fan. They’re both great. I gave the 5-fan to a relative who works with kids in an elementary school, so I treated myself to a 7-fan as a replacement. I resisted spending so much money on something so DIY-looking and potentially vulnerable, but it’s safe in my house. The Luggables are super quiet while having great CADR. Seriously, it’s hardly noticeable at all in my living room. Initially, I had to put my hand over the fans to be sure it was on. With most other purifiers that I have(Honeywell HPA 304, an old Hunter HEPATech, and box fan CR Boxes), their sound is evident on fan speed 2. I temporarily had a 20”x20”x2” CR Box in the room and had to keep raising the volume on my tv. No need with the Luggables. Unlike the other poster, I think the dry fit of the filters is fine and see no need to tape it up — after years of DIY CR Boxes, I was ready to replace one of them with something a little more streamlined (I still have a 16”x20”x2” at work, a retired 20”x20”2” that I bring out when a technician is in the house, and a “mini mini” to deal with). If the price and sturdiness don’t bother you, I say go for it. By the way, I found 3M 2500 Series filters at Costco that are so comparatively inexpensive, the savings vs Amazon pricing paid for my basic Costco membership. Another plus for non-proprietary filters. P.S. there are several posts /crboxes where people have made their own version of the luggable. You might find some inspiration to make your own and save a few bucks. But you will end up spending about $100 regardless.
