Thanks for the thin wedge acknowledgment. Can’t wait to see other’s disbelief at how good that build is at all around functionality. Don’t think anything can beat it in terms of cost to function. Incredible build, still functioning properly today. I think it might be quieter than my initial db estimate, as I can not tell it’s running most of the time, without putting my hand in front to feel for a breeze. The general noises outside, day or night, tend to be louder than Arctic P14 fans.
Look up Corsi-Rosenthal boxes. We have a 20" C-R box in our front room, and it catches quite a bit of pet hair. I still have to vacuum, but it's a much smaller job than it was before.
Corsi Rosenthal Merv 13 CRboxes, and specifically Computer Fan Merv 13 CR boxes vastly outperform HEPA purifiers in every metric: acoustic, Energy consumption, and particulate matter removal Plenty of scientific literature to back that up https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=Corsi+Rosenthal+Boxes+vs+hepa&btnG=#d=gs_qabs&t=1754052122891&u=%23p%3DG_S0ZOylYNAJ https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=Corsi+Rosenthal+Boxes+vs+hepa&btnG=#d=gs_qabs&t=1754052159338&u=%23p%3DiAc9fHufim0J https://chemrxiv.org/engage/chemrxiv/article-details/632dd805e665bda75a1002f8 What I find to be interesting though is how rare it is for someone with the tools to test HEPA crboxes for some reason, nor do they test them in independent labs or at least post the data on why the don't along their Merv 13 data. It's literally just a 2x-4x filter layout increasing the filter surface area and lowering the static pressure needed while using vastly more efficient fans in framing intended to accommodate a wider array of filter sizes
A diy [Corsi-Rosenthal box](https://cleanaircrew.org/box-fan-filters/) will last you a lifetime if you buy a good quality box fan. The sum of it is putting a high MERV furnace filter on the intake side of box fan. We run ours on full blast to clear our house whenever there is thick wildfire smoke.
> or roughly ten times cheaper than commercial air purifiers, with quieter operation. That alone is reason enough to look into Corsi-Rosenthal boxes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIuH-2naozI by the man himself.
Box fan and a furnace filter. Easy, cheap, and one of the most effective solutions. See [see Corsi-Rosenthal box](https://cleanaircrew.org/box-fan-filters/)
This is what we did and the next morning the filter had darkened. Not a scientific measurement but it was removing something that’s for sure!
\+1 to CR boxes, I ended up building [https://www.texairfilters.com/an-easy-to-build-corsi-rosenthal-box-using-modular-pc-fan-systems/](https://www.texairfilters.com/an-easy-to-build-corsi-rosenthal-box-using-modular-pc-fan-systems/) and prefer it over my Blueair Blue Pure 211+ I bought in 2020. r/crboxes exists too.
The best without much competition are Box fans (Will last for decades and decades, no consumer air filter will.) With HEPA filters taped to the back. Or Corsi-rosenthal styled. Cheapest run cost, cheap filters, high volume and high filter power.
