Hey there. Giving some context first which can help in understanding my recommendation and decision in air purifier. So I'm an American living in France the country where smoking in apartments is normalized. Our downstairs neighbours; a 70+ retired woman and her 50+ son/husband ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ not sure what he is to her are chain smokers and the apartment complex is 100+ years old but refurbished. The cig fumes were infiltrating through every porous crack a build can have, cracks from shared walls, gaps between side panel and floor, the hardwood floor, the vents for the pipes of water heater, plumbing and stairwell. For our needs (and the reasons should match your needs as well) I decided on going for multiple air purifiers for our two bedroom apartment so that all areas of the home were covered vs one really big one. Look at the suggestion list of what to look for in specs of the air purifier and see which are most important for you. These specs below are what I wanted in my air purifier. * **True HEPA (H13 or H14)** — must capture fine construction dust (PM2.5, PM10), cement, silica, and urban pollution. * **High CADR rating** — sized correctly for each room; don’t undersize. * **Strong pre-filter** — washable or easily replaceable to catch heavy dust and extend HEPA life. * **Activated carbon filter (thick, high weight)** — for traffic fumes, VOCs, and construction odors. * **Sealed filtration system** — no air bypass around filters. * **Room-specific units** — one purifier per room; avoid relying on a single central unit. * **High airflow / multiple fan speeds** — to handle constant particulate load. * **Air quality sensor + auto mode** — to respond immediately to pollution spikes. * **Quiet operation at high throughput** — especially for bedrooms. * **Readily available replacement filters** — frequent changes will be necessary in dusty areas. * **Energy-efficient continuous operation** — designed to run 24/7. * **No ionizer or ozone generation** — avoid added indoor pollutants. I first bought the [Rowenta Intense Pure Air Connect XL](https://www.amazon.fr/-/en/dp/B078XXGMVV?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3&th=1)for $170 (wouldn't recommend) then I went with three [Coway Air Mega 150's ](https://www.amazon.com/Coway-Airmega-150C-Purifier-White/dp/B0899GYD96?sr=8-3)and paid $150 each for them. The reason I don't recommend Rowenta is because the fan settings were not controllable in the linear sense. The four modes were Daylight (It auto regulates how fast or slow the purifier fan spins based on what it detects in the air), Night (Keeps fans as quiet as possible with the occasional spin up based on what it detects), Silent (Spins the fan as slow as possible mainly used during sleeping and similar to Night mode), Boost (Maximum fan speed at all times). Also, the sensor unit for the quality of air on this purifier has always maintained "dangerous pollution levels" the entirety of owning it and after having bought the Coway purifiers after, we concluded the sensor on this one being somewhat inaccurate. It was nice being able to control the purifier via app which was a headache in its own right but now is irrelevant because we have all the purifiers running 24/7. I recommend the Coway and am happy with the purchase due to keeping the purifiers running 24/7 uses 6 watts of power each on Speed 1. The sound the purifier makes is more than tolerable as it's a gentle hum. The Pre-filter is extremely easy to take out and clean. It came with Activated Carbon Filter (A must for us in regards to filtering the cig fume smell). It doesn't leak dust from the sides of the purifier and the purifiers match our house decor which doesn't hurt. We went with the color white. And buying a filter change for them is $50 each which is in line with standard filter costs and you can go cheaper if needed via third party and non activated carbon filter. Finally, the sensors on the purifier have all been consistently accurate in detecting a change in air quality across all three devices. You can read more about this purifier at this [review](https://housefresh.com/coway-airmega-150-review/). The review unit came with Impregnated carbon fabric and not activated carbon which it seems will be different depending on where you buy the machine. Mine in France came with activated carbon but other markets might have something different. Hope this helps and this took a lot longer to write up than expected. Feel free to ask any questions since I went more stream of conscious for this write-up.

There is no smart features for the Coway Air Mega 150's. Only manual controls and a timer function where the purifier will turn off after 1hr, 8hr etc..

600 AQI!? That is incredibly high. Is the primary pollutant PM2.5? The larger the filter, the greater the longevity (airflow speed also matters of course). You would need to buy multiple Coway purifiers per room. You didn't list a budget per **Rule 4**, so I don't know what you want to spend. I might have a Coway Airmega 250 in the bedroom. And I would have another Coway Airmega 250 in the living room plus a Coway Airmega 150. If you want to spend less, you could buy two [Philips AC3220/60 purifiers](https://www.amazon.in/PHILIPS-Purifier-AC3220-60-Portable/dp/B0DNK11RY1/): one for the bedroom and one for the living room.

The [Coway Airmega 150](https://en.coway.com/products/airmega-151) does have lower CADRs than the [Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH](https://en.coway.com/products/airmega-mighty-1), but the latter is louder. Some find the Mighty too loud on the highest airflow speed. The [Levoit Vital 100S](https://levoit.com/collections/air-purifiers/products/vital-100s-smart-air-purifier) has similar CADRs to the Airmega 150. Do you have a maximum budget and what is your room's size (length x width x height)?

r/AirPurifiersChoosing between two Coway air purifiers

For the sake of calculating CADRs, I'm going to assume your ceiling is 2.4 meters. Generally, CADR should be at minimum 3 times your room's volume in meters cubed (m^(3)). For high levels of pollution or if you have allergies/asthma/sensitivities, multiply by 4-6 generally. 14 sq. m x 2.4 m = 33.6 m^(3). Bare minimum CADR would be 100.8 m^(3)/h. Using a multiple of 4-6, CADR would be 134.4 to 201.6 m^(3)/h. I would probably go with the Coway Airmega 150. Keep in mind the CADRs listed for various purifier models applies to the highest airflow speed/setting only. Lower settings have lower CADRs, which means reduced cleaning effectiveness.

I own a Winix C909 and am very happy with it. But the feedback I've read in this subreddit and seen in reviews is that Coway makes better quality units than Winix. The only Coway purifier quality issues I've seen are rattling/balance issues with the Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH. That and some people complain Coway filters off gas.

r/AirPurifiersWould an air purifier really help my dog with his allergies?

Are you in Thailand? You haven't mentioned a country of residence. $200 USD = ฿6,375.00. A purifier could help with your dog's atopic dermatitis, although it depends on the triggers. For instance, dust mites can be killed off by reducing relative humidity (RH) below 50% or possibly 45% for prolonged periods. Mold can be controlled by reducing RH as well. Both of these would require a dehumidifier. Air purifiers will only remove *airborne* mold spores/fragments or dust mite allergens. Purifiers can remove airborne pollen, although large pollen grains will not be captured with the same efficiency. Unfortunately you have to pay more money for quiet operation. For rooms measured in meters, Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) should be 4 to 6 times the room's volume (in m^(3)) where health conditions or allergies are an issue. Let's assume you have a 2.4 meters high ceiling. 20 m^(2) × 2.4 m = 48 m^(3) room volume. You would need CADRs of 192 - 288 m^(3)/h. Options include the [Coway Horizon air purifier (AP-1019C)](https://www.coway.co.th/th/products/ap-1019c) and the [Philips PureProtect Mini 900 Series (AC0950/10)](https://www.philips.co.th/c-p/AC0950_10/pureprotect-mini-900-series). I would prefer the Coway as it has a separate permanent pre-filter. This makes cleaning coarse particulates easier. But replacement filters are probably more expensive than Philips' filters. Keep in mind the CADRs listed for purifiers apply to the highest airflow speed/setting only. Lower settings have lower CADRs which reduces cleaning effectiveness.

Blueair models often have high CADRs for less money. However, they use an always-on ionizer to enhance the mechanical filter's efficiency. Some people don't like ionizers as they *could* alter air chemistry or induce negative health effects. That being said, Blueair is certified for extremely low ozone emissions. The [RabbitAir MinusA2](https://www.rabbitair.com/products/minusa2-air-purifier) has a top Smoke CADR of 180 CFM. Warranty is 5 years. Depending on whether you want Wi-Fi or not, the price is $619.95 or $599.95. Certain decorative front cover options add another $20. The largest room size the MinusA2 could handle would be 270 sq. ft. with an 8 ft. ceiling. This is based on the [AHAM 2/3 rule](https://ahamverifide.org/ahams-air-filtration-standards/). For wildfire smoke, the largest room size shrinks to 180 sq. ft. with an 8 ft. ceiling. Currently, you can buy the [Coway Airmega 400S in White for $577](https://cowaymega.com/products/airmega-400s?variant=33436459892871). This model with an "S" has Wi-Fi capability. Top Smoke CADR is 328 CFM. Warranty is 5 years. I usually prefer the [Coway Airmega 400](https://cowaymega.com/products/airmega-400) when it's on sale (e.g., $349-$480). Hasn't been discounted in a while... not sure why. IMO the higher end Coway models are much better value for money.

Hello! Is this the U.S. EPA's AQI? IQAir generally uses the U.S. AQI for their world air quality map. Each country or region may have its own AQI which assigns different concentration break points to a range of values. PM2.5 is normally given in µg/m^(3). **Purifiers are usually sized by each room or space. So it would be very helpful to have the dimensions of bedrooms, living rooms, etc.** Most Dyson devices with air purification functions are very poor at cleaning the air. A Coway Airmega 150 is meant for small rooms only. Its top Smoke CADR is 153 CFM. Two Airmega 150 purifiers running at top speed would have a combined top Smoke CADR of 306 CFM. The Levoit Core 600S has a top Smoke CADR of 391 CFM, so it's much more powerful than a single Airmega 150. Keep in mind the CADRs I'm listing apply to the highest airflow speed/setting only. Lower settings have lower CADRs which reduces cleaning effectiveness. I'm not a huge fan of Blueair because of the always-on ionizer. For PM2.5, I tend to recommend strictly mechanical filters. Coway is generally a higher quality brand than Levoit, but you have to buy according to room dimensions and consider particulate matter concentrations. Coway tends to be more expensive, both for the initial purchase and replacement filters. Something more powerful would be the Coway Airmega 400 with a top Smoke CADR of 328 CFM. You may also want to consider Philips as they have high CADR units like the PureProtect 3200 and PureProtect 4200 series models. I don't know if they're sold in the UAE.

r/AirPurifiersOur second rabbit air purifier is officially up!

A 1,000 sq. ft. space requires minimum CADRs of 667 CFM. A 700 sq. ft. space requires minimum CADRs of 467 CFM. Total min. CADRs would be 1,134 CFM. Again, you'd want to **exceed** this total min. CADRs value because of higher particulate pollution concentrations. I don't know what PM concentrations purifier brands use to estimate filter longevity. To my knowledge, the AHAM AC-1-2020 standard doesn't list particle counts or particle concentrations for their CADR testing. Between the Levoit Core 600S and the two Coway Airmega 150 purifiers, you have a combined top Smoke CADR of 697 CFM only. The Blueair Blue Signature does have high CADRs (top Smoke CADR is 455 CFM). But it's not strictly mechanical filtration because of the always-on ionizer. It's electrostatic: ionizer + a mechanical filter. You may want to consider *two to three* more Levoit Core 600S purifiers if you don't want to spend loads of money on two to three Coway Airmega 400 purifiers.

Noise is an important aspect to consider. A noisy filter will likely never be on. It's not just about sound level. It's about how annoying/soothing the sound your filter produces is. On this aspect I l like Coway's airmega 150 and 240. It's also easy to find replacement filters for these models.

Dude, your knowledge is incredible! May I pick your brain a little? I live in Dubai. AQI is 50-150. When it's 50-100 it OK. When it goes to 150 and above, I feel my purifiers cant handle it. 2.5 particles are the main issue. Mainly from the desert, construction and traffic. Right now a lot of outside air gets sucked around doors. Next week I will have worked fixing it, setting up proper air-intakes with a simple filter (better than around the doors) that I can easily change. From there, it goes via AC system (basic filtering) + same basic filters on ducts. Our house is 1700sqf, I have Levoit 600s (living + kitchen), x2 Coway Airmega 150 (one in each bedroom) and one Dyson (we dont use it very often). As mentioned, when air gets bad, I feel they dont do enough, even if I set them to highest settings. I hope my paper-filter solution will help. However, Im considering adding another purifiers. My two concerns are - it will eat up more space + it costs money. I dont mind paying if I have to. Im pretty happy with Levoit. Coways - not so much. Two of them need to clean less space than single levoit, but doing much worse job. So I was thinking to add either another Levoit or maybe BLUEAIR Blue Signature. Which one would be better for 2.5 particles?

Yes they are worth it imo. My coway 150 is a workhorse. Also clean the box daily and do NOT use scented litter. In my experience, scented litters amplify normal cat poop smells. Maybe because those with perfumes are meant to have a greater reach? I dunno. They can also be terrible for cats with respiratory issues

I’m immunocompromised and always have an air purifier (Coway AirMega 150) running next to my lectern. It’s nearly silent on the lowest setting. I also have a larger one at home (250?) that is EXTREMELY loud, so I wouldn’t recommend a big one. The building I teach in is pretty modern, so I have to assume that the ventilation is quite good even though my classroom doesn’t have any exterior windows. I’ve been told many times I’m quiet/soft spoken (despite feeling like I’m always yelling), so masking while teaching is out of the question for me. I also tell my students on the first day of class that I am immunocompromised and therefore that if I do get sick, I am likely to get very sick and be gone for several weeks (sometimes I include the fact that my body literally cannot make antibodies, which is super fun). This info seems to stick with them, as I’ve had many students email me to let me know they’re sick and staying home because they remembered what I said. I am also pleasantly surprised that most students wear a mask for a few days when they return. I never mention masks at all and have never asked for anyone to wear them, fwiw. I also have a couple bottles of hand sanitizer in the room and use it very, very frequently (literally any time I touch a shared surface). I follow the same precautions in my office. I’ve had COVID three times, and two of the three times it was during the summer (I don’t teach summers). The third time I’m 99% sure I got it at a concert. Your mileage may vary, but I feel like my strategies work fine for me and at the very least give me peace of mind.
