It’s good and a very popular model. Reliable, quiet, easy to get replacement filters.

I ended up getting the mighty and it's been great! I'm not an expert but would recommend it. It has helped a lot with hayfever I think. I don't find it overly loud on setting 2 (which is what we leave it at). But yeah if you can keep the door closed I would have thought that would help a lot! I'm now looking for a bigger one for the living room downstairs. From memory I paid around £190. There are deals here and there where you can get it a bit cheaper (like £20 cheaper or so) but didn't want to wait as needed it asap. Good luck!

The coway airmega mighty is not a bad option

I got a Coway Airmega Mighty and IQ Air 250. Even though IQ Air is 4 times more expensive I don’t feel as much benefit from it compared to Coway. In fact I actually feel worse when IQ Air is on. Could be due to charcoal filter or due it being too powerful and lifting too much crap from the surfaces, dunno. But I know that I stopped using it and now am back to Coway.

Idk anything but I have a levoit and coway. I prefer the coway bc it has an ionizer and hepa. I don't think the levoit does. It gets rid of smells more than anything. You'll still get hair build up.

Up front: air purifiers aren't very good for visible dust. It's relatively large and heavy compared to something like PM2.5. Therefore it tends to fall and settle on surfaces unless very close to the intake. That being said, you will capture more dust if you "oversize" the purifier. And if you have pollen allergies, we also recommend oversizing. Coway is generally one of the best consumer-grade brands. The [Coway Airmega Jet](https://en.coway.com/products/airmega-jet-1) would be great, but on my end I can't seem to find replacement filters easily. They're currently sold out on Coway's UK website and Amazon UK doesn't seem to have them either. Uses 50 W on the highest setting and CADR is 402 m³/h. The next best choice might be the [Coway Airmega Mighty](https://en.coway.com/products/airmega-mighty-1). It uses a bit more energy at 82 W (as listed under Performance & Controls) on the highest setting and CADR is 421 m³/h. Keep in mind the Mighty uses an ionizer which can be switched on or off. We recommend keeping the ionizer off if you have pet birds or small animals. CADR may decrease if the ionizer is turned off, but it shouldn't be a significant drop.

The [Coway Airmega 150](https://en.coway.com/products/airmega-151) does have lower CADRs than the [Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH](https://en.coway.com/products/airmega-mighty-1), but the latter is louder. Some find the Mighty too loud on the highest airflow speed. The [Levoit Vital 100S](https://levoit.com/collections/air-purifiers/products/vital-100s-smart-air-purifier) has similar CADRs to the Airmega 150. Do you have a maximum budget and what is your room's size (length x width x height)?

I own a Winix C909 and am very happy with it. But the feedback I've read in this subreddit and seen in reviews is that Coway makes better quality units than Winix. The only Coway purifier quality issues I've seen are rattling/balance issues with the Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH. That and some people complain Coway filters off gas.

The biggest mistake you can make when choosing a purifier is getting one that is undersized for your space. You really need to figure out the volume of the room and then see how much CADR you require for the space for the number of air changes you want. Also, take into consideration that CADR numbers listed for units are unusually running the purifier on top speed (unless they break it down which some manufacturers do on their websites). The only reason this matters is because a lot of times running purifiers on top speed means they are very loud. I have been very happy with the performance of my Levoit purifiers and they are much quieter even at top speed than my Coway Mighty units. Smart Air also makes excellent units, but they are a smaller manufacturer and it’s harder to get replacement filters. Also, do not trust the onboard pollution monitors to tell you your air quality. Invest in a separate monitor. I like the ones from Temtop. They are good and not too expensive. That way you can run the units on the first or second setting and only turn them up when the monitor shows you need to do so.

I like the Levoit Vital 200, but I don’t think it produces the kind of noise even on the highest setting that equals a white noise machine. The Coway Airmega mighty on high, however, definitely does drown things out like white noise. Just FYI, it does move A LOT of air and it can make the room a little cooler than normal. That can be a plus or minus depending.

I used to have the mighty and it doesn’t vibrate, but on the highest setting it’s loud, so depending on how thin your walls are they might be able to hear a faint whooshing noise. You can’t put it under your desk though because like most purifiers the filtered air comes out of the top and you’d be losing so much performance having it covered

Absolutely get it. There are so many choices. Just to give you a better reference, the Coway on the highest setting is like a bathroom fan. It’s quite loud. On the middle setting, it’s almost silent. Can’t speak for the other Levoits, but I have the Vital 200 and on the highest setting it sounds like a standard tower fan. On the other modes it’s near silent. I monitor my indoor air with separate monitors and both have performed well, so you can’t go wrong with either brand when it comes to performance.

Levoit Vital 200 or Coway Airmega for the 16x10. All the others you listed are too small for that square footage. The Levoit is quieter if that’s important to you. If you have a bedroom that is close to double that, you either need two of same unit or a much larger unit (like the Levoit core 600) to clean the bigger room.

I have both the Coway Mighty and Austin Air Health Mate Plus.  The HMP was pricy but I haven't needed to replace the filter yet, despite a couple of years with pretty bad wildfire smoke. We run all of our air purifiers 24/7.

We really like our Levoit brand ones. Locally our energy company has discounts on them if you buy through their program so I would do that if I was buying another, may be worth checking.  The coway air mega mighty are also popular. We stayed with friends out west during one of the big fire years and it was amazing at both the smoke and the dog hair from their dog. 

The Coway 150 or the Winix C545, with some caveats. But I recommend upgrading from the Coway 150 to the Coway Airmega 200 (which I have) or Coway Mighty (a little harder to clean the front panel of the Mighty than the Coway 200) to provide flexibility of moving it to a larger room. Depending on the merchant, the 200 isn't much more expensive than the 150. [Wirecutter](https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-air-purifier/#our-pick-coway-airmega-ap-1512hh-mighty) rates the Winix C535 as performing as well as the Winix 5500-2, so presumably the Winix C545 would be good. I don't recommend the Winix 5500-2 (which I also have) for ***bedrooms*** because you can't turn off the annoying display light--not good for sleeping. But I consider the 5200-2 to be better than the aforementioned Coways only because of its charcoal filter with charcoal pellets--not the charcoal filter pad that the Coways use. Also, it's easy to forget to turn off 5500-2's pointless "PlasmaWave" feature when you turn on the machine--probably not good to have that activated in your baby's room. Other than that, Winix 5500-2 and the Coway Airmega 200 have the same specs (airflow and coverage). I don't know if the Winix C535 and the C545 lack a light shut off feature similar to the Winix 5500-2's lack of that feature. Yes. It looks like the C545, like the Coways, uses a charcoal filter pad, unlike the 5500-2's better charcoal pellet filter. The Winix 5500-2 is much more equivalent to the Coway Mighty/200 in terms of capes. Do you mean they're roughly equivalent in terms of noise?

We have had one in basically every room for years, and it's made my husband's asthma/allergies non existent at home. He used to have them really badly. We also have two dogs and there's never any fur or smell around the house. It also really cuts down on the amount of dust in the house. I always follow wire cutters recommendations. We have blue air blue pure 511 in most rooms and love it. We've had the coway mighty for close to a decade now. We originally bought it back when we lived in a studio, and it now resides in our main bedroom. This has an automatic setting where it increases speed when it detects air pollutants. It's been really interesting over the years to see what sets it off. Aerosols for makeup, shaking out sheets, cooking without windows open, humidifiers without filters. We've changed what we use in the house based on it because I'm concerned about lung health in general, because of my husband's poor lung health. It also is great for smells around the house, and in general for when you accidentally burn something on the stove, etc. it clears it out a lot faster. We do still open windows to air things out and have an HVAC filter, but this just is makes an additional difference on top of it. But also keep in mind we live in the city and have only one level. That probably makes a difference in whether filters are useful or not. Also my husband and I never transfer illnesses to one another anymore since air filters. Not sure if it's related or not As far as features I recommend getting one that has a night mode and keeping it on so there isn't any extra light pollution in the bedroom.

Been thinking about ti for my own classroom. I have 2 Coway mighty-s at home that I love but not sure i can fork over that much $ for my classroom. What did you end up doing?

I have three too. They've run 24/7 for years without an issue. Third party filters work fine and are half the price.

The Coway Mighty that everybody loves can handle that size room if there's no open windows, air vents, etc. And on medium it's whisper quiet. I don't even notice it, and I have three.

Oversized hepas are better. It allows you to run them at lower speed and still get good air flow without all the noise. We run coway air mighties on level 2 in four bed rooms and levoit 600s on level 2 in the two large open spaces. If I were buying now I would probably get levoit 400s for the bedrooms because the smart rules and scheduling is helpful and they are often very cheap on Amazon warehouse. Noise is barely noticeable and the amount of dust they pull out of the air is shocking. Bonus that we never have to dust surfaces. They are also great to have during annual west coast wild fire smoke season and keep particulates in the house undetectable even when it has been horrid outside. Other good additions if your furnace can handle it is a merv 13 filter on the central HVAC. We also donated them to the kid’s schools that didn’t have them to help manage particulates, air bourne microplastics, and wildfire smoke there as well.

The jet kicks winix’s ass. Filtersystem is better on the Jet - Hepa filters design is up to date and fits snug inside, pre-filter before the carbon filter to prolong hepa filters life. Also, you can use the Jet as a fan and blow air out from the front circle. Last but not least, Winix does not update its filters, but Coway applies it’s latest filter technology on all of their filters. Even on Coway Mighty, that is 8 years old, but the design is still bad.

Coway Mega mighty is excellent. Change the filters annually. It detects everything and cleans the air so fast and low energy. I love mine. I have it on eco mode mostly.

Yeah sorry if that seemed overly snarky but basically - although most people have stuff in their air, it’s not clear that everyone needs an air purifier. The first question I always ask is what problem you’re trying to solve - if the answer is (as it sounds like) “well I must have stuff in my air”, then I advise you to get a very basic unit and run it in your bedroom with the door closed to see if you notice a meaningful difference. At the $100 price point you could get a Levoit Core 300, of course we tend to recommend jumping up to $150 and getting a Coway Mighty or Winix. But without knowing your actual air composition or any health issues or concerns, all we can do is recommend a general purpose unit. And honestly it may or may not even be necessary.

So here's the thing - no matter what anyone tells you, there is no magic box that will do what you want. Air purifiers move air at relatively low speeds through a fairly restrictive filter. That means that they only "clean" an area of about 300sqft. around the unit effectively. They are almost universally ineffective through doorways, around corners, etc. If you have HVAC, the single best thing you can do is put a better filter in and run it on "always on" (not "circulate" or "auto", but ON). The best filter for a 1" insert (the most common) is a 3M Filtrete 1900. They're $20. The problem is they clog quickly, so you'll likely have to replace them every 30-60 days. That said, it'll cover your whole house. If you don't have HVAC, you could consider an AirFanta or building your own CR box. They're ugly and loud, but they move a lot of air. Again, I'd use those 3M filters if you want to stop smoke. Dust and other allergens, any ol' filter will do. The "traditional" route would also be to put several purifiers in your home, sized appropriately for the rooms - a large one for the open living space, and smaller ones for the bedrooms. I have the following setup: 1st floor, 1000 sqft, semi-open plan: I have an IQ Air and an Austin running at opposite corners of the home on a constant speed of medium. 2nd floor (bedrooms, also 1000 sqft): Master bedroom has a Coway 250, guest bedroom has a Winix 5500-2, both kids' bedrooms have Blueair 411's. Finished Basement (also 1000 sqft): Coway Mighty and Winix 5500-2 at opposite ends, running as needed (since the basement gets less outside air) and the one bedroom down there has an aging but still functional HEPA from Idyllis/3M (the Lowes brand) that was purchased years ago but uses 3M HEPA filters. IN ADDITION, I use MERV13 in my furnace and my ERV. The air here is VERY CLEAN. (Bad allergies run in the family...)

You have a cat - be aware, hair will get in the unit. DO NOT buy a cheap round purifier. They will get fouled very quickly. Levoit VITAL (not Core) is a good choice. As is Winix 5500-2, Coway Mighty or 150. 3 rooms at 300 square feet each shouldn't be an issue, but you may want to size up for the largest space (living room, I'd assume) which could certainly use a Coway 250 instead. If it were me, I'd do Coway 150 or Winix 5500 or Levoit Vital in the bedrooms, and Coway 250 in the living space, unless your master bedroom is bigger. In our house we have Coway 250 in the Master, smaller units in the other bedrooms, and another larger unit in the living area.

I have a Conway Airmega for my chicken brooder (chickens create a ton of dust as they grow, and they have to be inside for a few weeks cause they don’t have feathers yet) and it really cuts down on the dust.

I have 1 Conway AirMega ($170 ea) in each room that runs on med 24/7 365. Prior to the air purifiers the kids n wife would always have allergies n congestion/cough for what seemed like year round. My wife would have to pop Benadryl till it knocked her out. Slowly I started putting the air purifiers in each room, vacuuming the pre filter every time we vacuum the floors and they’ve gotten so much better since then. It’s been several years at this point. They still have the allergy fits every once n a while but it’s a lot less frequent. It’s not the prettiest solution to have one in every room, but for us I think it’s been worth the ongoing expense as the filters aren’t particularly cheap ($34 for 2). I’ve done a few other things that probably helped too. I swapped out the 1 inch filter return registers for 4 inch returns. I get 4 inch merv 13s from AprilAire. And I also started vacuuming with a true hepa vacuum.

I love my Coway AirMega! We’ve had it for a few years now and any time we have strong cooking smells or if I spray some hairspray, it kicks into gear and I can tell it’s working! Can’t speak to the longevity/BIFL just yet but I’ve been happy thus far and it seems like it’s great quality. I also buy their name brand filters. *EDIT: brand is “Coway” and phone auto corrected to “Conway”

Yep, we’re a 4 Coway household here too.

I’ve had Coway AirMegas, Winix, and Whirlpool Whispure, and Coway is by far the best home purifier in my opinion. I have an AirThings air quality monitor and a dust allergy, and these filters make a difference. You do need to clean the Coway prefilter regularly, but it’s easy to do. I didn’t know they sold off market filters so I’ll have to look into that because the filters can be costly.

I have 2 Coway airmegas that are super quiet that I’ve had for nearly 2 years. Do you change your filters regularly? Only one I would not recommend is Winix—I had one of the smaller models and its noise was very inconsistent and it was poorly constructed compared to the Coway Airmega and the Honeywell Whispure (a tiny model).

I have 3-4 Coway Airmegas and Winix 5500s. I found them all on my local Facebook Marketplace for $50-75 over the last 12 months. All in great condition. Previous owners sold because they were moving (college students; young professionals).

Buy the Coway air mega it usually goes on sale pretty often. 10/10

If I’d known about Austin Air when I bought my Coway Air Mega and Blue Air, I would’ve definitely picked Austin Air and I may still get one. It’s pricey, but so are Coway and Blue Air when you add up the cumulative price of filters. And, I find I need filter replacements much more often than recommended further increasing the cost.

I got a Coway Airmega because it was highly reviewed on the Wirecutter website after my previous Levoit broke after only a couple years and wasn’t fixable (circuit board inside was fried).

We have two Coway Airmega units, one on either side of the house. They have been on 24/7 for several years now. Maintenance and cleaning are very minimal. Cost is about $150-200, although there are larger units based on how big of an area you need to filter. We are very happy with them! Whichever purifier you choose, I highly recommend you look into one with a replaceable HEPA filter. Other filtration methods just won’t give the same results.

Agreed! And they now offer different filters depending on what is most important to you to filter: one for smoke, one for allergens, etc.

I have the Coway Airmega and an Austin bedroom machine, and they seem to be equally good. The Austin cost significantly more.

Anecdotally, I have two big Airmegas running in fairly small spaces and I can't tell a difference in air quality between when they've been running and when they haven't. I don't get what the point is.

We have a 2500 sq ft home so we have several air purifiers. I went off wirecutter’s list and got Coway Airmega for the rooms with higher ceilings and Levoit for the kid rooms and office (where the litter box is). We have had them for a year and I’m happy with them. They’ve significantly cut down on daycare illness transmission within our household. Instead of all 4 of us getting sick it’s 1 kid and sometimes 1 parent per illness.

huge fan of Coway Airmega. filters last a long time, it has a mesh prescreen you take out and clean every 3 weeks or so, and it's both quiet and has a good CADR. And it's very slim and doesn't take up much space!

I've got a Coway airmega in our bedroom, and a BlueAir in my office at work. I love both of them... I'm a therapist and work in an 8'x10' room talking to people for an hour 5-6 hours some days. I think the BlueAir is a big reason why I haven't picked up any of the respiratory stuff some clients have come in with (well, that + vaccines + mindful hand washing/sanitizing). It's also pretty quiet which is important to me. I'm planning on picking up another BlueAir or two for the rest of my house this spring. The pricepoint is kinder than my Coway, and it's much quieter.

I would also say my Coway Airmega is one of the best investments I have ever made. It’s amazing how much it can grab and filter out. They say the filters should last a year, but we have it constantly running in a larger room and probably change the filters every 3-6 months. Closer to 3 when we have the AC wall unit on blast thru the summer. We’ve also had terrible Smokey days from the Canadian wildfires in my area and when I last replaced my filter, it was almost black so it was working hard! 2 years of having it and no issues.

Id say no, proprietary airfilter. I use [https://cowaymega.com/products](https://cowaymega.com/products) and get 3rd party filters to replace it. I also turned it into a fan by using plastic vacuum hose.

Swear by Coway Airmega - liked it so much I bought another one - personally Iove their aesthetic as well but I consider them better than previous levoits and Winix - wait for a special offer is my advice 

I picked up a coway airmega during the Smokey season last year and let it run in the living room. It does a pretty good job of keeping the dust, cooking odor and old house smell to a minimum.

The sensors are amazing. The review on Amazon sold me " my dog farted and it instantly kicked on and I never smell them anymore" Yes whenever I cook or smoke they instantly kick on and work really well.

Second the coway. They are worth the price. Given OP's budget, looking on ebay or facebook marketplace for a used one might be a good first step. Buy new filters for it if you get it used.

Can highly recommend Coway Airmega. We have 3 of them for the same reason. We've had them for a few years and regularly replace the filters, so haven't done recent research to see if there's anything better out there.

As someone moderately allergic to cats and SUPER allergic to dust. I'm allergic to most people's cats because they are silly lil guys who love to find tiny spaces that are hard for humans to dust well. We have two Coway Airmega air purifiers to help minimize dust buildup and deep vacuum regularly with a big kid vacuum to manage dust and floof. The Purina Live Clear allergy reducing cat food 100% works. We have a friend who is allergic to cats (like myself) she had minimal symptoms while at our home for hours. She hadn't taken any allergy meds that day. I still take a Zyrtec every night and generally experience little to no symptoms despite my void floof believing she is a feather duster and rolling on the floor.

Like others, I swear by the Coway Airmega, but that’s just brand/model loyalty. You’ll want you check each model’s CADR score - the higher the number, the faster the unit filters the air. Decide what your ideal budget is, and find the unit with the highest CADR at that price point.

I really like the Levoit. It’s super quiet on the lowest setting and you can turn the lights off. My husband is a bozo who needs white noise to sleep so he always turns it up to its highest setting and then doesn’t turn the lights off. We have a coway airmega for our living area but I prefer the way the Levoit looks and my older son kept messing with the coway and it got stuck on a setting so I can’t turn it up or down. ETA I also have a roomba because I am allergic to dogs but my dog is my favorite child and I let him sleep on my bed during the day.

I've been using a Coway Airmega for 3 years now. No complaints besides I don't like the look as much as I thought I would. Keep it in my bedroom because that's where I spend the most consecutive time and also it's not far from an HVAC intake. Having 1 was a bit undersized for my house so at first it seemed to run on medium and high more often (I almost always keep it on Auto). When the pre-filter gets clogged you'll notice it will randomly run on high. Easy to clean and change filters. I've been buying the filters from a 3rd party.

I have a Coway Airmega and it changed everything for me. My budget was only $200 and you can buy it for less than that easily. Dust, pollen, pet allergies, and cooking fumes are all big problems in my near-century home. I ordered replacement filters from Amazon. I do move it from room to room if I am doing a big project or cooking something which will smoke (no built-in hood). I keep it in my sleeping room the rest of the time. For something inexpensive I have been tremendously happy. If I had a budget of $500, I’d just buy more of these! It definitely cleans cooking odors/smoke no matter what room of my house it’s in, but I like to clear the kitchen air quickly for my own sake.

Coway Airmega looks like a solid pick, especially as it’s clearing out musty smells and reducing allergens while adding that cool breeze feature. I’ve run a few models non-stop in rooms with high humidity, and once they started picking up those subtle odors, I knew I was onto something. I’ve tried some models from Blueair and Medify before, but ConsumerRating is what I ended up trusting because it lined up features like filter life and energy efficiency to my needs. Absolutely necessary these days. I bought a Coway airmega last year because of the terrible dust from the incessant roadwork. There's a noticeable difference and most importantly, my daughter sleeps better. No regrets

I recommend the Coway Airmegas. To be effective, it will need to run at full blast. Get one with a high CADR or pick up multiples.

We bought an Airmega four years ago (the last big wildfire year in California's bay area) and it's been a terrific purchase. It helped then with that acute problem, but it also helps keep particulates low year round. It's quiet, doesn't take a huge amount of space, and it makes a noticeable difference in the main living areas of our home (I don't expect it to work in bedrooms at the other end of the house). Do recommend, but the Coway app is pretty crappy.

I own a Coway Airmega, BlueAir 311 Auto, and a Dyson PureCool. Coway is for the main living room/kitchen, BlueAir for kids rom, and Dyson for our bedroom. Overall the Coway is my favorite. It’s a beast and has a low cost of annual maintenance. Strongly recommend.

Second the Coway Airmega! It is a beast, honestly. I’ve had it in my bedroom for over a year now, and you can literally feel the difference in air quality. 

I bought the coway airmega last year and love it ever since. The filter is really easy to change and it runs pretty quietly on low settings.

I have two large Coway Airmegas at home, a Levoit mini at work, and a portable QT3. I use all heavily to make indoor air safer to breathe - removing particulate matter (the most harmful part of breathing wildfire smoke) including airborne viruses. Note that air purifiers don’t remove gases like CO2 from the air and I find when CO2 gets high I will get migraines. Ventilation like opening a window is the solution to CO2 buildup, which is hard when the outdoor air is full of smoke — this is where having an air purifier can make a big difference.

I tried a Dyson TP07 once, but it felt pricey for my budget, so I leaned toward Coway Airmega because it handles pet hair and dust pretty nicely.

I got a Coway AirMega because my apartment used to smell like my stinky chihuahua no matter what I did, and the smell is gone. Like when I come back to my apartment and open the door, instead of being like "wow, that is what I've been noseblind to?!" it smells the same as the hallway. (Also really helps my dust mite allergy)

Me too! I’ve tried the fancier copay’s but this one is the best for the money. Filters are reasonable and it has good power to circulate air.

First thing I want to say and it's important. The most important thing you need to know is that the air purifier has got to have true HEPA that is not an option ... 3m/filtrete is a joke of a purifier. They are terrible and do not last. biggest problem you have with their air purifiers are they are not sealed purifiers. There is a lot of dust that gets through other places and bypasses the filter in the unit and then what happens is it collects after the output vent so you will eventually start seeing dust there. Another is their filter cost. It's insane. if you look at their filter replacement schedule, it says the filter lasts 12 months used six hours a day.... air purifier are supposed to run 24/7 to have full effect so if you run it 24 seven that’s every three months their filters are also small... but I personally recommend and have used the past is these two for your size room are these I'll link. you get an air purifier that is going to be more powerful in your price range and will last for starters... There’s a reason why you want something with a higher CADR is because it will clean the air more frequently in that room and clean it better. You will get more air changes per hour basically and that’s a good thing. Also, you’re not gonna have dust getting past your filters and leaking out of the top of collecting everywhere else. You will also get a true 12 month filter when you run it 24/7. It comes with a TRUE HEPA and four replacement carbon filters. One of them will even include a additional year of filters if not both of them out of the box. The Coway Airmega is also another amazing air purifier for the price, however the filter costs have you replacing filters every 3 or 4 months with full use. Alen is also expensive from the get go but filters are annual. I have used these Winx purifiers in the past and I love them the plasmawave can be turned on or off I'd it's a concern but it doesn't produce ozone. I like the Coway AirMega

I followed the Wirecutter recommendation and have a Coway Airmega. Two technically, one for our room and one for the baby's room. My allergies are a lot better after using them. My only gripe is that the first one we got makes a slight knocking noise sometimes, like it's just a bit out of balance. Usually if I turn it off, let it sit for a minute, and turn it back on again it goes away, but it absolutely drove me nuts when I was trying to sleep. I can't hear it over the white noise machine we use now though.

My seasonal allergies got a lot better when I started using an air filter in the bedroom, so I would assume it works similarly on pets. It's horrifying how much dust it pulls out of the air. I have a Coway Airmega, mostly because that's what Wirecutter recommended. I buy the off-brand filters to save money though.

Wirecutter recommended the Coway Airmega. I got 2, one for the living room and one for the main bedroom. They have a sensor and cycle higher when there’s more particulates in the air. It has a prefilled and a main filter (that you change only once a year). It has an indicator light to tell you when to clean/change. I'm sorry the Coway has what now? Pesticides? I finally bit the bullet and purchased one of the airmegas and I've been happy with it (the new plastic smell lasted a day but other than that) so that's kinda concerning....

Coway Air Mega's are great. Blueair's larger units are equally great - with both DO not buy their filters directly from them - way overpriced - Amazon has generic equivalents that I have been using and have performed great (have air testers in home).

budget budget, build a corsi-rosenthal  otherwise, get a coway airmega. it's a little pricier than some but it has a carbon filter which is great for smells. prefilter catches a lot and saves wear and tear on the hepa panel

Coway Airmega. Consistently high marks and top recommendation by NYT's Wirecutter magazine (which does product testing). Not cheap but super quiet and efficient.

Is there enough ventilation overall? Opening windows in the winter will dry out the interior air but a fan or air purifier is just recirculating the air already in the room. I recently got an Inkbird CO2 sensor to see when it's getting stuffy. I did a DIY hack turning a 自然換気口 (passive air inlet vent) into a powered intake fan that has a PM filter. The models were basically the same size so it was an easy swap. Then I ran an extension cable to an outlet. For air purifiers I use Airmega Coway as the filters are robust. I don't use humidifiers due to condensation risk from poor construction (less of an issue in concrete mansion).

Stick to basics- all you need is a good filter with a fan for PM 2.5. Thicker ones last longer before replacement. Some include additional charcoal/ carbon filters for VOCs and odors. Also try to get a thick/robust one of those as a cheap one I had just got saturated very quickly and ended up releasing smells rather than capturing them. Personally I have a few Coway Airmegas and retired a basic Iris Ohyama one. I also got air intake fans with PM filters so the air coming into the place is cleaner as well. I retrofitted a passive exhaust port into an active air intake as they're about the same size.

A Coway AirMega in the classroom was how I survived a couple bad wildfire years. It made an enormous difference.

Noisy on the quick clean burst mode where you tell it to briefly run as hard as possible. Moderate on high. Not noticeable at all under most circumstances.

Second the coway airmega- we use it for our kid's room, but have it on a set setting (rather than the auto setting) because when it would turn on to max air purifier it gets pretty loud.

After pursuing BIFL I decided to pick one up as well. I have two kids with seasonal allergies and this thing has been amazing!!!

Agree. Our Coway Airmega does a great job, and has an "economy auto" mode you can just leave it on all the time. And if you remove and brush pet hair off the prefilter once in a while, your filters should last a long time.

I have 3. A Coway Airmega, a Levoit Vital 200S-P, and a Welov. None of them do ionization (bad for their lungs and our lungs). The last 2 are smart/wifi ones that let me see the filter life in the app, that feature I appreciate since with birds the filter runs out waaaaaay sooner than the “change every 12 months” recommendation.

I got the airmega on Black Friday a few years ago and I’ve been really happy with it. We don’t get a lot of dust anymore and it really seems to help with kitty litter dust and such. Last year there were wildfires nearby and the airmega kicked itself into high gear (I keep it on auto), so I do really trust that it’s actually doing something.

The Coway Mega is fantastic for dust, pet dander, woodsmoke. Had mine for a year now.

I had a smell for a few hours after turning mine on. Just ran it with the window open in my bedroom for a few hours and the smell was gone.

I've got a Coway AirMega in the LR and it's great. In the master BR I've got a Levoit Vital 100 which someone gifted to me and it works well enough. I have a Levoit Core 300 in the smaller bedroom; the space is within the specs but it feels a little small if I need to keep it running on medium... a larger unit running on low might be better. I think they say the 300 is also the most expensive to run, almost 2x the Coway given the CFM.

My Coway Airmega detects odors very quickly and automatically speeds up the fan.

We have a Levoit Everest-air by our grey’s cage, and a couple of Coway Airmegas in each bedroom. I would say an air purifier is mandatory for your health if you own a dusty bird like a grey. Always turn off the ionizer (or get one without it A prefilter that is removable for cleaning is super handy. If you keep it washed (or vacuumed) your air filter lasts so much longer. It’s crazy the amount of dust that collects on the prefilters!

I have these, 0 smell and great to put it on eco mode , as it detects poor air quality it automatically switches modes to higher setting and shows it as purple or red and once air is back to being good it goes back to eco mode and shows blue.

I’m a huge anti-viral illness and clean air mindful person and based on my research and cost, I’d recommend the Coway Airmega. The prices can be decent, sleek look, not too loud, and most importantly they have many articles out there recommending them for actually working.

I’m in the uk and got a Coway airmega and it’s great. Did my research and wouldn’t change it. If you reaaaaaaly want to go all in, there’s some guys on yt that build their own using PC fans but it’s a bit overkill
