Coway - Ultra Air

I feel for you, OP. I am an allergic-to-everything person to the point that I've needed to move homes to get away from paint, varnished wood, carpet, etc. The biggest trigger for me, though, and maybe for you is any centralized heating and cooling system. The systems' filters don't matter - the room's unfiltered air is also being blown in your face. I haven't found a purifier that can offset this problem. I don't use ACs and all my heat is water-based or electric. I experimented with Dyson - if it's the model that provides heating or cooling, there is a chemical in the device that can cause reactions. You can also be sensitive to the material in any carbon filter, like coal. The imperfect journey continues, but I ended up getting a custom purifer from Aller Air and I use it in the same room as a Coway HEPA. One for gas and chemicals, one for particulates. It still doesn't save me completely from my dusty old building, but I can now be confident that it's the only issue. Good luck!

It's not mysterious technology or snake oil. Air filtration is well understood. They definitely remove particulates from the air. I have a few HEPA filters around the house -- relatively basic ones -- Coway brand. Each was like $150 and the filters are a $15 replacement once a year. They're quiet and have nice auto/eco settings and even a sensor. The sensors obviously work because they ramp up a when we cook or otherwise kick up dust. I guess the question is -- does it really matter? The official verdict is still out on that, I guess. But I think it probably does. I don't *feel* a difference, but we live in a metro area where there's plenty of particulate around that's known to be harmful like tire & brake dust, so I think it's worth it over the long term especially with kids. Incidentally I remember reading that HEPA filters do in fact filter out airborne pathogens. There's part of me that is convinced that if we had decent HEPA filtration in public spaces, we'd see a marked drop in flu, RSV, and things like that. But who knows.

Have the IQ air does not catch dust or similar. I ended up buying a.Blue air that does and running both. The air quality that comes out of the IQ air is excellent, but if dust is your issue, is not gonna help. Blue air smells like plastic in comparison.. tried the Conway and there was so much plastic offgassing. I returned it..

I got some Conway ones on sale for a main level and bedroom in my house a while back. My plan was to help alleviate dander, allergens, and fire smoke. I can't say I have any empirical evidence of their efficacy, but I'm glad I have them. If you have a couple hundred bucks and no central air, I think it's worth it.

We have two, a Conway and a Fellowes AeraMax 300. Both are excellent. #

2 Conway and 1 Winix currently. Had 3 Levoit’s but they all died between 12-24 months. Junk

We have a mix of Conway and Blueair purifiers of various throughout the house, usually set to run on low/auto. They do help. I also like that it keeps the unfinished basement air much fresher. It’s still dusty but helps the airborne stuff.

Tried Winix for the affordability and great reviews. Trashed within the year, Co-way outperformed it by far. 

There’s a House Fresh article about the best air purifiers for viruses and bacteria. Sadly the Coway wasn’t on it. I wish I had came across the article before I bought my Coway 1512hh. The Winix 5500-2 is listed as a good buy for viruses. I ended up buying it for my living room and have the Conway in my bedroom. At some point I’ll upgrade to the Winix. Update: A few months ago I was looking at Coway's website and thought I didn't see viruses listed in terms of what their HEPA filters can filter out for the Coway 1512hh. I just looked and it's listed. Definitely put me at ease and I can cross getting another Winix for the bedroom off my list.

Dyson brings down AQI from 999 to 180 in around 30 mins. Conway takes around 45 min.

IQAir by a mile. I have a purifiers from Conway (nice, not expensive), Blue air (prettier, work), Levoit (not worth it IMHO), and IQ Air. By far, the IQ Air is the best of the bunch. Better filters. beefier construction. quiet and powerful. Pricy.

Horrible allergies all year round. LOVE my Conway. It even dealt really well with the wildfires we got a ton of smoke from last summer.

Hi msp > LA transplant so I've been living in fire nation for awhile now (welcome btw). Conway is good, has a sensor to ramp the fan up if it senses bad air and seems to work. Filters are $$$. You need one per room, they dont really cover more than a few hundred sq ft. In practice I have one my bedroom and one in my kitchen / living room. AC can help as well but the filters aren't as fine so they don't catch as much. In general keep your windows closed and doors closed. Run AC. Run filters on high during an event. remember to replace the filters in your house after a stretch of bad air. They'll get very dirty very fast if the air quality is very bad. 

IQAir is the best. Austin is #2. I got an Austin air healthmate plus. I wish I got an IQAir. If you only have allergies and don’t need VOC’s filtered you probably don’t need Austin or IQAir. I typically tell my friends get something like a Conway and make sure it circulates enough air for their space. I got a Blueair years ago and it still runs like a champ.
