"Dyson air purifiers just aren't good... Not for particles or VOCs ... The Dyson has a much lower clean air delivery rate, about a sixth of the cheaper machine, so it just handles a lot less air. ... The Dyson is able to clean the air in my room about 2 times per hour, vs 11 times on my new machine. ... the Dyson only has a clean air delivery rate of around 160, which is extremely low for its price range (for the price they tend to be at around 400-600), and it only has 150 grams of carbon. These are the specs of a low end machine. Similar to what you will get with a machine that's about $100. ... The real issue here is that the Dyson has a smaller and less powerful fan, smaller filter, and sirculates less air. It cleans the air in my room 5 times per hour, while the cheaper one cleans it 11 times per hour. ... they continue to show a performance equal to low midrange purifiers... Purifies that are half the price. ... They are under powered air purifiers. They have the same air purifying performance as machines about one third of the price."
"The Dyson is our most expensive one and we would probably not buy again. ... it doesn’t perform any better than the BlueAir which was a fraction of the cost."

"are stupid loud on even medium speeds"
Oh, fuck no. As an owner of four of these things, they’re some of my most regretted purchases. They have a laughably low CFM, are stupid loud on even medium speeds, develop squeaky bearings within months, the filters are expensive as shit, and the software sucks. Seriously, do not buy one of these. Edit: I have two TP07s, an HP04, and an HP09. They all suck equally.
Just don't... This is HP04 filter after several months of use, compared to a significantly cheaper competitor after just 1 week of use in the same apartment. Dyson air purifiers just aren't good... Not for particles or VOCs, and the humidifier wasn't doing anything about my humidity problems during winter either.
Both of them have an outer mesh. Most air purifiers have filters with an outer mesh, specifically for this reason... The biggest particles get cought there, smaller particles go in the HEPA filter, and then the VOCs go in the carbon filter. The fact that it has sucked up dust demonstrates that it's good at sucking up particles. That there is almost nothing on the Dysons outer mesh, shows that it hasn't really been sucking anything up.
Which is why I have it... For air purification. To suck up crap from the air in my house. If it's on the filter, it's not in the air I'm breathing. The Dyson didn't do that, and spending a minute every other week to remove that dust is much better than having it floating around in the air.
I have actually researched it, and I know why this is happening. The Dyson has a much lower clean air delivery rate, about a sixth of the cheaper machine, so it just handles a lot less air. The Dyson is able to clean the air in my room about 2 times per hour, vs 11 times on my new machine. Both machines use HEPA filters with a pre mesh, and a carbon filter, as most air purifiers do. With the exception of the Dyson Big + Quiet, Dysons air purifiers have the performance of a low midrange purifier, while priced top of the high end machines, and that's where the issue lies... Price vs performance.
Yes, you're correct, the dust on the Dyson filter is in small spots, due to the plastic cover, but the comparison is about those tiny spots being what Dyson has pulled in over months, vs what the other brand has pulled in over a week (which means instead of being on the filter, the dust will be in the air I'm breathing) ... But again you are right, this alone doesn't necessarily guarantee that it's bad at all aspects of cleaning air. I did look into it a bit deeper after making the post, though, and it turns out the Dyson only has a clean air delivery rate of around 160, which is extremely low for its price range (for the price they tend to be at around 400-600), and it only has 150 grams of carbon. These are the specs of a low end machine. Similar to what you will get with a machine that's about $100. The exception is the Dyson Big + Quiet, which is a pretty good machine. Clean air delivery at about 400, and I believe it had a carbon filter with around 1000 grams of carbon.
The real issue here is that the Dyson has a smaller and less powerful fan, smaller filter, and sirculates less air. It cleans the air in my room 5 times per hour, while the cheaper one cleans it 11 times per hour.
Great timing, I'm also looking at some Levoit air purifiers on Amazon. It says in Google it will link to "Vesync" which is their smart app, but I don't have one to test out the Google home capabilities. I do have a Dyson HP04 and that is now usable in the GH app.
Loling at the smooth brain comments in here talking about it captures air pollution in a way that doesn’t clog the filter… just 🤣. For reference I own a HP04 but I understand it’s limitations.
I got a dyson for few reasons: the model i chose has heating, the fan moves, so u can drect the air to a location in room, works with alexa, refurbished on a discounted
Both, I have the hot and cool link, we like it for monitoring and purifying, plus single room heating. It works great in conjunction with our HVAC system so it’s basically providing a single room filter plus heating capability, and helps push around the well-filtered air from the HVAC. And we can see when the HVAC filters actually need to be changed because you can see the stats no longer sit at 0 the whole time. But let me be clear, it’s absolutely not worth the price
Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Link. I think it’s from 2016? The filters are a continuing cost but overall very happy with it.
i splurged and got the dyson air purifier that also works as a fan and space heater. personally, it was well worth the investment. i'm able to monitor the air quality, humidify and temperature in my home through an app.
It’s not necessary unless you have bad allergies or if there is smoke from some huge fire (knock on wood). I have Dyson combo fan/heaters with air purifier, so it’s automatically working when I use them.
I went to Costco to buy a winex brand for 500.00. When I got there the Dyson air purifier/ heat and cool were marked down from 600.00 to 200.00. So I bought two for less than one! I really, really like them.
