I have a vertical germ guardian at the back of our LR4. I don't want it too close to the opening as it'll suck in too much dust and prematurely clog the filter. I wash the prefilter once a week..

I've got three Guardian HEPA towers. The oldest is seven years old now, and they still work great. I vacuum the charcoal filter once a week and change that and the HEPA filter about every six months.

They don't really work if you have an active infestation. Ive got 4 lg ones in an 800sq ft house and I swear they do almost nothing. We even have this electrostatic filter in the hvac and still I've get systems when the doors close or the AC goes on. I have 2x airmega 200s, germ guardian rated for 900 sq ft, coway with uv rated for 600 sq ft. 2 upstairs and one down. If I were you id try to build the biggest Rosenthal filter or several as they don't get down hall ways or around stairs, etc. The think I don't like is they really tank your electric bill and are very noisy, as they have to stay on high mode.

I used this national allergy website. I got the Dyson and the germ guardian. Honestly I don't think the Dyson is worth the money. https://www.natlallergy.com/

I like my WINIX for these larger particles. It has a cleanable pre filter, charcoal filter and the hepa. I vacuum the pre filter weekly to get the cat fur off. I also use an old germ guardian that was my best buddy in a musty old office I worked. It’s still a great unit just louder like a fan so I use it in the bedroom as white noise now It’s worth mentioning a reminder to change the home furnace filter if you have one. I tend to change mine every 1-3 months during high allergen or fire seasons.

I have quite a few allergies, and when we adopted a dog, they became quite serious to the point I needed puffers and was rediagnosed with asthma after 20 years of no issues. I bought a Germ Guardian for the bedroom and I ran it 24/7. It was a lifesaver. I bought one for the main floor and one for the basement and they have really helped. I highly recommend getting one, at the very least for your sleeping area.

Yes! I got one at first and now we have 3! They work so well. Gets rid of weird smells, room not so stale, air noticeably cleaner. I got germ guardian but the others are different brands my Costco had. For filters, I buy the knock off brand ones that fit in my machines and they work fine but significantly cheaper than brand name filters

I got two germ guardian ones and they help with allergies. I also clean my furniture and vacuum consistently so that helps with any allergies. They are very affordable, at least the models I got are $100 and you can find them on Amazon or big box stores

I used a germ guardian but it was too loud so I diyed a few air filters for various types of fans and merv 8 filters. Not HEPA, but you can use higher merv ratings for cleaner air. Mine is not the same design as a Corsi-rosenthal box, but that was my original inspiration. DIY filters can filter a lot more CFM and are cheaper to maintain at the cost of elegance and aesthetic you get from commercial hepa filters. I can even turn it on and off remotely with a Kasa smart plug. You don’t have to use the 20x20 box fans that everyone uses, just need an adapter to connect the filter to the fan intake side (I made out of cardboard box)

I have a giant Shark he60601 and a smaller germ guardian. Shark is kinda for the whole space just for air quality/ dust. Germ guardian is for pets, it does seem to do everything it promises, less dust and dander.

I have an old germ guardian purifier but it just seems to blow dust around and doesn’t do much for my allergies. My allergies have gone haywire in an older dusty home and I’m considering an upgrade (also considering getting higher MERV furnace filters, currently MERV 8 or 9 1” because the furnace people warned us against going to high, debating MERV 11). I get allergies whenever the furnace turns on, when I’m vacuuming, or just lying in my bed trying to sleep. It’s driving me bonkers! The purifier would be used in a bedroom (I’m guesstimating 14x12 ft), but I would prefer it to be sufficient for a larger space. I’m considering the Levoit Vital 200S, the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH, the Winix 5510 or the BlueAir 211i Max. If my concern is primarily dust (secondary is seasonal pollen), which of these options would you recommend? All of these are on sale for prime days (located in Canada) but this would definitely be a big financial hit so I would love it if the more affordable options would cut it (why is blue air so expensive?!!) Thank you for y’all’s insight!

I have that issue with a germ guardian right now. I tore it apart and the bearing is designed to be inaccessible. On its lowest setting I can't hear it anywhere in the house.

For a budget option I'm very satisfied with Germ Guardian. It's incredibly popular so there are a ton of knockoff filters available on Amazon and I've been able to thrift a stack of officially branded filters from Goodwill. Been running it for a few months. The first month the filter got nasty so I replaced it. Now the filter has been staying fairly clean for 3 months, there is no dust on my ceiling fans, and the vacuum is picking up a lot less. This is in a house with 2 cats.

There are lots of fraudulent bad air purifiers which are nothing but expensive fans out there. I have asthma, and have 3-4 purifiers of various different stripes throughout my home. Some are indeed better than others. Because i have asthma, I make sure that air purifiers do not have ionizers (which emit ozone and cause respiratory irritation). I use germ guardian, honeywell and shark. Depending on the size of the room, I try to get ones that fit the area in question. The current one I like is: # Honeywell AllergenPlus HEPA Air Purifier, Airborne Allergen Reducer for Large Rooms, Reduces Allergens, Smoke, Wildfire Smoke, Pollen, Pet Dander and More, Black, HPA200

I went on a hunt and came to the same conclusion, so I opted to stay with what I have. I have a germ guardian (bought out by Lasko I hear) in each room. They seem to be doing their job and I have never smelled any funk coming from them. Filters are expensive but I shop vac them every month and it seems to make them last half a year. Is there something better? Maybe probably?

GermGuardian is my favorite! Has a HEPA filter that is super easy to replace, UV-C, and odor control, and they also have some models with carbon filters, and is very quiet. I have one in my office and one at home and love them.

I have used ALEN and GermGuardian HEPA, I got the GG first and ALEN as a second one later. They definitely do something, I lived in city during first part of my pregnancy and the smells and air quality were stifling to me, so I bought one and it was a huge improvement as I could actually tolerate the air in my apartment without feeling sick. They filter noxious smells pretty well, I used to live with people who smoked 🍃and I was able to keep the smell out of my room with it, so it definitely did something. I always see Austin air and air doctor recommended, and some specifically for issues like mold. Idk if it’s hype, like someone said you could get a box fan and air filter and make your own. But, Air Doctor is doing a presale on their new model at half price so it’s around $400 instead of $800, but doesn’t come out until summer. I just bought it as i need one for other room and thought id see if it makes a significant difference compared to the ones i have.
