Levoit Core 300 is a good, quiet True HEPA pick for your 200 sq ft room and allergies. Coway AP-1512H and Honeywell HPA100 are both reliable with good airflow and long-term performance. Look for True HEPA and strong CADR, and avoid vague “HEPA-like” filters or ionizers that make ozone 👌
Many air purifiers with HEPA filters (small crud) also include a prefilter (large crud) and optional charcoal filter (odors). I have a Honeywell Insight Series (model HPA100B) that I'm happy with. The HEPA filter is changed annually. Prefilter is every three months. I don't use the optional charcoal filter, but I'm guessing those are changed every three months, too. My son just bought an air filter that has a washable prefilter, but the HEPA filter has to be changed every six months. Don't know about the charcoal filter. You can get some recommendations by googling "rate air filters" or "compare air filters" or "best air filters 2025." I think the grooming advice is helpful. Same with the cleaning advice comments. If grooming or cleaning is too much, can you hire some help? A teenager may be willing to brush your dogs or do vacuuming.
I was wondering the same thing. I own two Honeywells, the HPA-100 and 200 that I got for free. They're discontinuing that line, but I just replaced one through eBay because I like them so much. Normally they're super quiet and move a ton of air. The best thing is that they both take the same filters so it's all interchangeable. I saw the new models, and they look sleek, but I didn't want anything with an app, and I wasn't sure if the parts were as good as the old ones.
Anything with plasma, airwave, ozone etc is toxic. You have to research each model. I have a basic HEPA Honeywell because of this.
Yes. I have Honeywell HEPA units in multiple houses. 24/7.
Yes, an air purifier helps. The best brand is Honeywell with a HEPA filter. Second is Bionaire with True HEPA filter (purple one), third is Bionaire with the blue filter. Levoit kind of sucks. Don't waste your money on the Pure Enrichment Personal Air Purifier.
For reasonable VOC removal there are only 4 players I know in the market which offer products which have the minimum 10 pounds of sorbent media: Airpura, Allerair, Austin, IQAir. Wildfires product a huge mix of chemicals - from the vegetation, contents of burned buildings, etc. There is no consumer solution that removes all VOCs. Each type of media is better at some chemicals, not so good or not effective at all with others. For the same reason there is no sensor that I know that will give you the level of all VOCs. These machines and filters tend to be expensive. I just upgraded my Austin units with Immunity Machine filters which cost \~$700 each. We were spared wildfire smoke this season but with AQI numbers breaking 100 I was able to keep my indoor values close to 0. I use Austin and IQAir VOC machines along with Honeywell and Whirlpool HEPA units, 3 filters per room.
Honeywell HEPA. Don't buy an electrostatic/ionizer type "purifier" as it creates O³ (ozone) - which is hazardous (and is also a component of smog).
