I literally just got a new air purifier after doing an absurd amount of research, and the amount of information can be a bit overwhelming, especially when trying to find something bird-safe. So I'm hoping some of my research can help you avoid the amount of digging I had to do haha. I just got a Honeywell HPA304 and it's worked wonders for my room. It's so much less stuffy than it used to be with my two keets. There are a few things to consider with air purifiers and birds. You probably will want one without an ionizer, as ionizers have emissions that can kill birds. You can get a purifier with an ionizer and just keep the ionizer function turned off, but I personally didn't want to risk it malfunctioning or something, so I got one without. I used the California Air Resources Board's "List of CARB-certified air cleaning devices" to check if they had ionizers. Any with ionizers will be listed as electric instead of mechanical. You'll also probably want one that is slightly larger than recommended since you can keep it on a lower/quieter setting and still get adequate clean air delivery rate (CADR). It's a bit confusing (at least to me lol) but as an example, my air purifier is recommended for 500sqft rooms. My room is about 350-400sqft, but that means I can run it on the lowest and quietest setting without having to worry about the air not circulating as much as it should. It's also better to have a more powerful one when you have dusty critters, especially birds. Some of the brands that are more widely recommended and available are Honeywell, Levoit, Coway, Blueair, Medify Air, and Winix. You'll definitely want something that's HEPA grade, since it can actually filter out the bird dander. They tend to be a little expensive, but there are some more budget friendly ones that those companies sell. Mine was about $160 on sale but it was so worth it. I hope this helps a bit! :) I can also give some recommendations if you'd like. Also, what cage is that? I've been looking for a similar one for one of my birds but I haven't been able to find one around me

You also have the option of buying a smart plug and plugging a dumb air purifier into it. If you do, I find that the plugs that work with the “Smartlife” app have more scheduling options. Just make sure that your purifier doesn’t have to be turned on via a switch/button on the purifier itself or the smart plug won’t work with it. My CleanAirKits Luggable and DIY CR Boxes work great with smart plugs, but my Honeywell HPA304 doesn’t.

I don’t know if it’s the best, but it had great reviews at the time. I have a couple Honeywell AllergenPlus units and they are workhorses. They have been around forever and you can buy generic versions of the filters. I have a unit in my bedroom that’s been running nonstop for years.

We have a 2 story house and on the main floor we’ve been through 3 high priced super duper fancy ones since 2020. They stop running, start making noise, we can’t find filters, it’s always something. Upstairs we have an inexpensive old fashioned black box (Allergen Plus) from Honeywell that just won’t quit. Get the ugly one from Honeywell.

r/moderatelygranolamomsTo allergy sufferers (dust mites), what is the best air purifier you've ever tried for dealing with this?

Sufferer of lots of allergies, including dust mites here! My allergy dr recommended a few things: mission allergy brand pillow encasements (this brand only- apparently other ones don’t work as well) https://www.missionallergy.com/product/barrier-2-pillow-encasings; wash your sheets, blankets, mattress covers in HOT water; use an air purifier. We’ve used Honeywell Allergen Plus HEPA air purifier for years now and it helps a ton. It’s not the quietest, but it’s a nice white noise while we all sleep.

I have two Honeywell large room air filters. They are sub $200. The filters are readily available. I blow them out with an air compressor outside and reuse them until I can’t. I run them on low 24/7 and they have a turbo setting. They come in white or black. HPA 300 series Unless you want those electronic ones that have some dubious science imo. They are pretty much alll the same except for the filtered air per minute, filters, and number of pleats. The more pleats the less you need to change filters.

You can get a HEPA filter air purifier (Honeywell makes decent ones) to deal with PLA and TPU, they dont emit the toxic VOCs like ABS, Nylon and PC, but they do still emit fine particles. Having it enclosed like you do is going to prevent a lot of those fine particles from scattering through the room though so its a big help. As a rule I try to not have my printers in the same room I work, but if you must, that HEPA filter will help reduce the fine particles a lot. For the more toxic materials, absolute best bet is to create a negative air pressure environment while venting outside through a window or port. If you cant or want even more reassurance, running a carbon filter does a lot to help. There are specialized air purifiers for VOCs but theyre not cheap. A really good one you can get is from Heygears, called the GreenPrint Purification Unit. Just know it's specifically for VOCs as it doesn't trap particles, it destroys them (so you still want a HEPA for the fine particles). This air purifier doesnt need filters though, it doesnt trap VOCs like a carbon filter which can become saturated and need replacements. It actively breaks down VOCs, so it just runs indefinitely with full efficiency, no need to swap filters.
