Vacuum? Do you even own one? Start there. [I have a an older version of this and really like it. It’s been running on low for past 6+ years with no issues. Just regular vacuum of the pre filter once a week and filter changes every few months. The Oder removing filter work well too.](https://www.honeywellstore.com/store/products/honeywell-insight-hepa-air-purifier-hpa5300b.htm)
I like the Honeywell HPA series - I have a HPA 5300. It is HEPA. I like that there are various pre-filters you can buy to tailor to your needs. I use a A pre-filter, an S pet-odor filter, and the standard HEPA filters. The unit circulates air in a large room about 3 times per hour. Noise levels are fantastically quiet, and the auto setting allows me to run the unit 24/7 without changing anything. While it’s lacking smart features, I don’t feel I need it. I also have a Levoit 400S-P that I run a different room, without the ionizer. It gives me comparable performance as the Honeywell but I don’t like lack of filter options, is slightly more expensive to maintain, and slightly noisier.
I use a Blueair 211i Max. It does an amazing job of capturing cat fur. I have to wash it every two weeks due to how much fur and hair it catches. It has significantly brought down my allergies. I also have a Levoit Core 600S that I love. My Honeywell HPA5300 is amazing at capturing so much cat fur.
When the smoke was really bad a couple summers ago, I bought this Honeywell air purifier, which covers the whole 1st floor of the house. It’s really helped. It has HEPA filters and a carbon pre-filter. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/honeywell-allergen-plus-hepa-air-purifier-extra-large-rooms-500-sq-ft-black/6412444.p It automatically senses when there is a high level of VOCs, so yeah, it kicks into turbo mode when somebody farts.
Honeywell we use the big 500 sq foot one for main floor and the smaller 200 sq ft one for the bedroom leave them on low change filters every 4/6 months
Yes. I have Honeywell HEPA units in multiple houses. 24/7.
Yes, an air purifier helps. The best brand is Honeywell with a HEPA filter. Second is Bionaire with True HEPA filter (purple one), third is Bionaire with the blue filter. Levoit kind of sucks. Don't waste your money on the Pure Enrichment Personal Air Purifier.
For reasonable VOC removal there are only 4 players I know in the market which offer products which have the minimum 10 pounds of sorbent media: Airpura, Allerair, Austin, IQAir. Wildfires product a huge mix of chemicals - from the vegetation, contents of burned buildings, etc. There is no consumer solution that removes all VOCs. Each type of media is better at some chemicals, not so good or not effective at all with others. For the same reason there is no sensor that I know that will give you the level of all VOCs. These machines and filters tend to be expensive. I just upgraded my Austin units with Immunity Machine filters which cost \~$700 each. We were spared wildfire smoke this season but with AQI numbers breaking 100 I was able to keep my indoor values close to 0. I use Austin and IQAir VOC machines along with Honeywell and Whirlpool HEPA units, 3 filters per room.
