I have MCS, MCAS, & asthma, among other things, and love my IQ Airs. I do know some folks have an issue, but I haven't nor has my friend who also has such extreme MCS that she breaks into blisters from simple exposures. I own two of them, now giving them away because they've been in a home that ended up with pretty severe mold issues in the attic and I want to start new because it's impacted me so much. The quality of the air to me just doesn't compare between the IQ Air and my Levoit, my CR Box, or my SmartAir Blast (I have the industrial sized). I would have thought the SmartAir Blast would have had similar outcomes as the IQ Air but, to me, IQ Air all the way. Huge difference. There is a very subtle sweet smell that is associated with one of the products they use (in their filters, I think?). It bothers some. I am extremely sensitive, in general, and this doesn't bother me. In fact, I like it because I associate it with crisp, clean air. I wonder if there might be a store you can go check one out? Or, perhaps you can rent one for a test drive? I've rented an air purifier before while traveling for a hotel that had recently been remodeled and was causing me significant issue. It may sound like I'm loaded having all of these expensive machines. I wish. It would make things much easier. I'm just desperate for clean air and so extremely sensitive that it's caused major life disruption and I've needed to spend money even when I don't have it. (No experience with the AllerAir.)
The two I’m getting rid of are the old version of the HealthPro Plus, without the new internal air quality monitor. The new one to be delivered tomorrow is the same, but the new version with the monitor. I stick with the HPP over the Multigas because I live in the Pacific Northwest (US) where it’s super humid. The mold here is insane and I’m extremely sensitive to it (and particulates in general), so I do the machine best for particulate + VOC combo needs.
I have had 3 IQ Air HealthPro+’s in the last 15y. I’ve also had Levoit. No competition. IQ Air is the best air filter I’ve ever used. Ugly, but worth it to me. No competition. IQ Air if you can swing the cost.
700 square foot apartment, and I love mine. It’s my third one. I’ve tried others and they don’t even come close to this for my particular issues. I’ll never buy another brand again. (I lost first 2 Health Pro+’s to two consecutive moldy rentals. Bad luck, for sure. They still worked great, but I didn’t want to chance bringing them with me.) Edit: I have had a smaller Levoit, and the SmartAir Blast which was industrial sized. Neither came close to the IQ Air for me. I was so bummed I got the Blast instead of the IQ Air. (Lost that to one of the moldy rentals too.) The quality of clean air from the IQ Air makes the ugliness and footprint it takes up worth it to me. I wish it were pretty but it’s a total eyesore that I will go back to again and again.

IQAIR is the answer, what I love is that I can take the whole thing apart and wipe every surface clean between filter changes. I think that helps a lot with keeping it clean.
IQAir. Have had the same one for 6 years now
I agree. IQ Air are the best. The HealthPro Plus XE is $1200.
adding more purifiers is no overkill. i have 11 winix 5500-2 units around here and i have a Iq air healthpro plus. They all do a decent job at what they do covering all rooms and spaces. i dont run them all the time in all spaces 2 units are only on when im working in the garage and back of the house. I find that the health pro plus is the most effective unit downstairs it is much more powerful then the winix 5500-2 units i own. but the winix units are great at trapping cat hair and particles linnencloth and dust on the prefilter. i can easily vacuum it off. it slowed down the dust build up around our house considerably. I wish that i could place a healthpro plus in my bedroom but there is too little space. the 5500-2 i have in my beds end is more practical for the moment.
If you want something in the 200-300 dollar range, then go with Coway Airmega that’s a very good option, budget I’d recommend Levoit Core 400S and for premium I’d recommend the IQair Health Pro Plus Air purifier, that thing is built like a tank!
I'd go Airpura, as well. 1) But I would consider the H14 Super HEPA option, as a 10x10 space will possibly enable you to be in the direct path of airflow depending on what speed you run it on and where you are located in relation to the unit. I run an Airpura V414 less than 2 ft. from my head and use it kinda like a Personal Air purifier as it blows filtered air to my facial region…. I run it on medium speed/200 CFM… but I also have an IQAir HPP about 10 ft. behind me - so I get good ACH between the 2 units and DPCA (Direct Path of Clean Air) from the V414... And I do have an H14 Super HEPA in the unit. 2) Airpura has told me that the smaller (400 units) tend to perform better in smaller spaces (@ 200 sq. ft. and less) than the larger units…. I’m still not exactly sure why that would be the case…. But that’s what they’ve told me… 3) I’d check with Airpura to see what they think is best for your space based on your variables.
HealthPro Plus was poor at low speed and noise OK otherwise. Air Atem OK.
I run 3 filters, Austin and IQAIR, in each of 2 spaces - one 300 square feet the other 600 square feet. If the air is poor outside my Purple Air sensors will still show green. However there are so many chemicals in wildfire smoke, particularly if structures have burned, that they don't get everything. I am sensitive to terpenes and right now they don't help with the Camphor tree flowers. So they can greatly improve air quality but don't expect all VOCs to be removed from the air.
For best VOC removal, such as mycotoxins, you need a lot of absorbent media. Checkout Airpura, Allerair, Austin, IQAir. All are in the $1k range. I'm unsure whether any filter will eliminate mold sensitivities. Did see an improvement when upgraded my Austins with Immunity Machine filters but molds still aren't totally controlled. There are clinics which can treat mycotoxin sensitivities. Can be quite expensive.
Running both IQAir and Austin Immunity Machines in my major rooms particulates run from 0 to under 10.
I have had my Austin, IQAir, Honeywell and Whirlpool machines for as much as \~20 years and have had no problems with filter replacements.
The 4 vendors with the best VOC filters are Airpura, Allerair, Austin, IQAir. Absorbent media composition and weight vary by manufacturer. IQAir has models that go up to 32 pounds of media, at least according to google search. Note that no VOC filter will remove all VOCs. They do well with some chemicals, partially control some, and totally ignore others. I use IQAirs and Austin Immunity Machines, multiple units per room unless you want to put up with the noise running the fans on high speed. Had a room repainted and requested a low VOC paint. Was pleasantly surprised that I had no problems with the paint even though I am extremely chemically sensitive. It is possible that the renovations don't cause a VOC problem at all, or maybe just for a few days.
My Austin, IQAir, Honeywell and Whirlpool filters all work with smart plugs. When you purchase make sure you can return if it doesn't work as features change over time.
The iqair HealthPro plus series is amazing
I got 3 used ones, and I’d highly recommend it. Got them during the LA fires and in 1 day I went from a sore throat to clear breathing. The hyper hepa filter seems to really clear the air of small particles. And they’re so simple they really seem like bullet proof industrial units. Like the computer is just a little unit on the top that can be replaced if needed. The real price is the filters, so I just go super cheap on the base used unit, and add new filters. The new ones of course are great too… and I hear come with 2 years warranty. Overall I couldn’t be happier.
IQAir Health Plus Pro, it’s expensive, but the undisputed champ
