"in 1 day I went from a sore throat to clear breathing. ... The hyper hepa filter seems to really clear the air of small particles."
"The IQAir takes out 99.5% of ultrafine particles, viruses, etc. down to 0.003 microns. Obviously .3 is not the same as .003. They are just in a different class entirely."

"HealthPro Plus was poor at low speed"
I have a OQ Air Health Pro Plus in my 1,100 square foot apartment with my cat. I've had zero issues with the unit and has improved myself and my cats asthma. My cat never gets any asthma attacks now.
Another vote for IQ Air… I run the HealthPro Plus XE and it’s been a spectacular unit. I have a 1600 sq/ft studio and it takes care of the entire space. The improvements in air quality were significant.
I saw that one but went a different route based on recommendations from some friends who are crazy into these things… went with this. It’s pretty amazing. https://www.iqair.com/us/products/air-purifiers/healthpro-plus?Model=XE
Sure, all valid points. I’ve seen a lot of reports of fan failure after about a year, but still worth a try at that price point. I do have a larger space and the reliability / quality of the IQ Air was worth the spend. Just sharing options.
IQAir It's been worth every penny.
adding more purifiers is no overkill. i have 11 winix 5500-2 units around here and i have a Iq air healthpro plus. They all do a decent job at what they do covering all rooms and spaces. i dont run them all the time in all spaces 2 units are only on when im working in the garage and back of the house. I find that the health pro plus is the most effective unit downstairs it is much more powerful then the winix 5500-2 units i own. but the winix units are great at trapping cat hair and particles linnencloth and dust on the prefilter. i can easily vacuum it off. it slowed down the dust build up around our house considerably. I wish that i could place a healthpro plus in my bedroom but there is too little space. the 5500-2 i have in my beds end is more practical for the moment.
If you want something in the 200-300 dollar range, then go with Coway Airmega that’s a very good option, budget I’d recommend Levoit Core 400S and for premium I’d recommend the IQair Health Pro Plus Air purifier, that thing is built like a tank!
I'd go Airpura, as well. 1) But I would consider the H14 Super HEPA option, as a 10x10 space will possibly enable you to be in the direct path of airflow depending on what speed you run it on and where you are located in relation to the unit. I run an Airpura V414 less than 2 ft. from my head and use it kinda like a Personal Air purifier as it blows filtered air to my facial region…. I run it on medium speed/200 CFM… but I also have an IQAir HPP about 10 ft. behind me - so I get good ACH between the 2 units and DPCA (Direct Path of Clean Air) from the V414... And I do have an H14 Super HEPA in the unit. 2) Airpura has told me that the smaller (400 units) tend to perform better in smaller spaces (@ 200 sq. ft. and less) than the larger units…. I’m still not exactly sure why that would be the case…. But that’s what they’ve told me… 3) I’d check with Airpura to see what they think is best for your space based on your variables.
Maybe. I couldn’t answer as a medical professional, so that was just my best guess since OP wanted carbon filtration before the HEPA filter and this is the best system I could think of with the brand. I use the gas/HEPA singularly with IQAir, but it seems they need more robust filtration? Just the HPP works well for me and I’m in a wildfire-prone area.
I keep my IQAir on medium 24/7 and kick it up to the highest setting after housework or during weather advisories (smoke, wind, high particulate, etc). When I lived in the house I was exposed to toxic mold—after I found out about it, of course—I had several (different brand) purifiers on the highest setting 24/7, and though they looked like hell after switching out the filters about once a month, did an extremely good job with professional AQI tests in the interim before the landlord let me out of the lease.
No idea about Merv 16 since I just buy what they have so I don’t have to think about anything, lol, but I use and travel with their car filter—bringing it into hotel rooms and letting it filter in different areas before going inside. Not sure how well it filters all the air in the room, but it’s a relatively small space, so I’m willing to take the chance since otherwise there would be no filtration. I am thinking about buying one of their large round models for the same reason since it would be easier to store at the side of the car instead of a bulky IQAir and would know the filtration would be on point. We actually have two IQAirs: one upstairs and one downstairs. The lower level is far larger than the second level, but they both seem to do a good job, especially on the highest setting (it does an incredible job filtering after-dinner “food smells” from the kitchen, too!).
I run 3 filters, Austin and IQAIR, in each of 2 spaces - one 300 square feet the other 600 square feet. If the air is poor outside my Purple Air sensors will still show green. However there are so many chemicals in wildfire smoke, particularly if structures have burned, that they don't get everything. I am sensitive to terpenes and right now they don't help with the Camphor tree flowers. So they can greatly improve air quality but don't expect all VOCs to be removed from the air.
HealthPro Plus was poor at low speed and noise OK otherwise. Air Atem OK.
For best VOC removal, such as mycotoxins, you need a lot of absorbent media. Checkout Airpura, Allerair, Austin, IQAir. All are in the $1k range. I'm unsure whether any filter will eliminate mold sensitivities. Did see an improvement when upgraded my Austins with Immunity Machine filters but molds still aren't totally controlled. There are clinics which can treat mycotoxin sensitivities. Can be quite expensive.
Running both IQAir and Austin Immunity Machines in my major rooms particulates run from 0 to under 10.
I have had my Austin, IQAir, Honeywell and Whirlpool machines for as much as \~20 years and have had no problems with filter replacements.
The iqair HealthPro plus series is amazing
I got 3 used ones, and I’d highly recommend it. Got them during the LA fires and in 1 day I went from a sore throat to clear breathing. The hyper hepa filter seems to really clear the air of small particles. And they’re so simple they really seem like bullet proof industrial units. Like the computer is just a little unit on the top that can be replaced if needed. The real price is the filters, so I just go super cheap on the base used unit, and add new filters. The new ones of course are great too… and I hear come with 2 years warranty. Overall I couldn’t be happier.
IQAir HealthPro+ the best consumer grade air purifier on the planet. No other model comes even close. Costs ₹1 lakh in usa, you can inquire on iqair India's website for imports they will give you exact quote
