I actually own a core 200s in a 12 m2 bedroom and it's flawless. On sleep mode it's very silent, but i can sleep with it on first speed. It brings down the ppm 2.5 @ 0.1 very fast and maintains this low number even in sleep mode. It's not underpowered by any means, it's recommended for 17 m2.

Another vote for the Levoits. We have a core 400 in the living room and a 200 in each bedroom. I highly recommend them. Our place always just smells fresher since we’ve started using them.

I wouldn’t buy a core 200 for any purpose, way underpowered on lower speeds. I would bump that up to 400s/300s at least.

Levoit is loud for sure - the 200 is also not gonna be big enough; they say it filters 1800sqft/hr, and ideally your filter will process the air 4x/hr (so the 200s would be good for ~450sqft) I personally (in a 330sqft studio) have a levoit core 200 in the bathroom (where the litter box is) and a core 300 in the main room. The 200 is loud enough (on the lowest setting) that it sounds like the heater or bathroom fan is running. I’d recommend focusing on the rooms with the litter boxes, before worrying about the bigger spaces

Corsi Rosenthal box. You might be able to build a huge one with PC fans to cover 2,000 square feet but realistically you're looking at two or three of them. It's common for air purifier manufacturers to mislead when it comes to coverage area. My Levoit Core 200s is advertised on Amazon as providing coverage for a 1,000 square foot room. In reality, it *could change the air in a 1,000 square foot space but only once in an hour on it's highest speed. You want more air changes per hour. Going by 5 air changes an hour on it's highest fan speed, the Core 200s covers 200 square feet. So even though Costco might be saying the Homedics covers 1,000+ square feet, it's likely based on one air change an hour. Here are some recs for air purifiers that can filter the air in large spaces: https://housefresh.com/air-purifiers-for-large-spaces/ Again, the square footage is based on the highest fan setting. If you're trying to clean the air in 2,000 square feet, you'll probably need 3 or 4 Smart Air Blast Minis or multiples of whatever purifier appeals to you.

I have a Levoit Core 200s. Unfortunately it's underpowered for my space. At the time of purchase I wasn't aware of how to calculate Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR). I still use it but it's more of a supplement. I've had zero issues with it in the 3.5 years I've owned it. I keep it on 24/7. Here is a CADR calculator: https://housefresh.com/cadr-calculator/ It basically tells you what CADR you need based on your room size. The website listing for the device should tell you the CADR

It's a good device. Like I said, I've had it for 3.5 years and I've had no issues. I don't mind white noise so I think the noise level is fine based on the setting I leave it on. My general advice is a purifier for each room unless you have an open concept space/ studio.

The 200s is rated for 140 square feet based on the CADR of the highest fan setting. Not negating your experience of them being helpful in your space but didn't want the OP to think they're a good option for 700 square feet. Doesn't do much for smells. I've had one for years.

For a 300 sq foot room I recommend the Levoit Vital 200s. It's rated for close to 400 sq feet. I'd run it at the next to highest fan speed. I have the Core 200s and it's suited for a room under 200 sq feet. I generally replace my filters around the 30% mark, sometimes 20%.

Yep, I go by the percentage. I think they calculate filter life based on hours the device is running. For the majority of the day I have my Core 200s on the 2nd (of 3) fan speeds. At 1 in the morning it drops to low, just because. At 10am it kicks back to the 2nd fan speed. I have another purifier as my primary purifier so the Core is just supplemental. At some point I'll move it to my hallway closet for my cat's litter boxes. The vet seems to think the litter I use is contributing to a respiratory issue in one of my cats.

The A231 is loud. I appreciate white noise but the A231 can be a bit much. I can't speak to the Core 300 but I don't find my Core 200 to be loud. I believe the Core 300 has a small amount of pelleted carbon which will somewhat help with smells.

Their CADR is in cubic meters per hour, where most purifiers specify CADR in CFM (cubic feet per minute). Multiple this by about .59 to change to CFM, so it's claiming \~250 cfm. (It's actually 264.) Most air purifiers at this price point (the blueair 411/511, the levoit core 200s) have a CADR of 100-150 CFM. 100 is actually sufficient for the room size (160 square feet) you're mentioning. If it's too good to be true and there's no information about them anywhere, then it usually is :)

I know you told me about CADR but I’m not sure I understand it. I’m not sure exactly, the sq ft of the room I have my Levoit in so I’m guessing 300 sq ft. I don’t smoke or own pets. I do have indoor plants (which may grow mold) and dust. I’ve had my Levoit Core 200S for about a month and had the fan on high 24/7 for about a week. Then I’ve turned it to low, med or sleep and it seems to be effective at cleaning the air. I noticed the filter is at 89% now. That seems “bad” to me. Does this mean that I will need to replace the filter at 0%?

Someone just recommended the Levoit Vital 200S that’s currently on sale at Amazon for $150. I just bought the Levoit Core 200S ($75 Amazon) and had it on high for the first several days. It seems to be helping but I will know more after a month (my preference). One thing I must remember is, I still have to be out in the world with the pollution/pollen and must find a way to do that. My area is polluted too and when the wind blows, the outdoor air seems to seep inside. Plus I’m allergic to dust and mold that grows in my indoor plants. I also have carpet and rugs. I just started taking prescription Zyrtec and Singular which should alleviate my symptoms. I have prescription nasal spray, cream and oil to use for eczema and other allergy symptoms. I don’t have pets and I don’t smoke. I’ve just developed sensitivity to these things.

I have the Levoit Core 200s. It’s been running nonstop in our bedroom for two years now. We like it so much that we bought another in the same exact model in case it dies. We like this one specifically because it makes the perfect whooshing noise while it’s running at medium speed. It’s like a perfect, not annoying white noise that perfectly drowns out tinnitus and apartment noise. My husband and I both have pretty bad tinnitus. If it gets turned off for whatever reason before we go to bed, we both lay there wondering why we’re so uncomfortable and aware of the ringing. As an air purifier it also works really well. We have a senior dog with allergies and two kittens sleeping in our bedroom with us. The kittens have turned it off in the middle of the night a few times. By the next evening, I’ll walk into the bedroom and immediately know that it hasn’t been running all day because our room smells like dog and litter box. 🤢 10/10 recommend. Don’t listen to the comment saying they’re a scam. That math ain’t mathing. Pro tip: put it on the opposite side of the room from where you’re sleeping. It pulls the dust TOWARDS it. If the dust doesn’t make it all the way, it’ll settle near it. The goal is to pull the dust AWAY from you.

We have a two small levoits (core 200s-p) for the bedrooms and larger (vital 100s-p) one for the living room. They also integrate easily with a smart home ecosystem if you have one because they have wifi. Like if you want them to be off when you are not home. Go to sleep mode when you go to bed. Or turn night light on Larger one has a sensor and it's always on at slow speed but it increases when it detects bad air quality or particles. But i believe they don't really work as well in a large open environments like a living room. I would move the cage to a room and have a purifier there and have it sealed. There's foam that goes under the door to keep the dust from going out of the room

Hmmm, this prompts me to wonder: I picked up one of the small Levoit units the other day because ragweed is driving me crazy trying to sleep. But I returned the thing just now, because it was making my allergic reaction WORSE. Now I have a Winix shipping to me that claims to be true HEPA etc. Bummer to know that offgassing is a thing in this case.

All HEPA filters are disposable maintenance items, some last longer than others. For the price I’d highly recommend an MA-25 instead. I only recommend the Levoit 100 S or 200 S if you are using it *specifically* for pet hair and dander otherwise they are not that great in my opinion. I’ve owned 6 Levoit products and I wish I had spent the money on a different brand for 5 of them.

We have a dog who plays outside and we had recently renovated the whole house after a fire. Even after a deep DEEP cleaning it felt like there were a lot of particles in the air and accumulating on the floor. Plus new paint, new floors, etc With the Levoits I can track the ppm (parts per million) going through the filter. The data backed up what I felt. The air just felt cleaner and better. I’ve had these for about 6 months. Occasionally they decouple from the app and Home Assistant but the units stay running 24/7. With smart home things I’m ok with the occasional tech support needed. There’s units that could do a larger space but for the price point they absolutely do their job

We have used the Levoit 200s (approx. $90 at Target) in the 4 bedrooms for the past three years and love them. We have used the Levoit Vital 200s (approx $200 at Bestbuy)for the past 30 days and LOVE them. The app is the same for both purifiers and is easy to use. they pick up so much from the air I did not know was floating around. We are not getting as sick, a cold, or feeling bad as frequently as we used to. Allergies are also less intrusive in our lives. Go with the Levoit purifiers.

I have 3 levoits: a large one in the living room (600S), a small one by the litter box (200S), and a small one in the bedroom (Another 200S). They work wonderfully and I definitely feel the difference since I have cat and dust mite allergies. If the purifier hasn’t been running for a few days my nose gets runny & I start sneezing again. They also work well when there are lots of cooking fumes or when using hot hair tools since I see the air purifiers automatically kick up the intensity to clear the air

I have an air doctor 3500 and it seems to work fine; haven’t tried the ionizing function. I also have my LEVOIT still and it is still working. I contacted them to ask if they are HEPA and they said they do have HEPA grade…so…not sure what that situation is with them but the purifier does work, can see the dust it sucks in on the pre filter. I’m still considering also getting a Wellis to target mold/mildew/viruses but I’m hesitant for the same reason you mentioned. I’m looking for actual customer or really any feedback from anyone but what I have found is very limited and from other countries. How has it been for you? Do you notice any difference at all with it? I did find some info about hydroxyl radical production technology. Not particularly Wellis, but what they claim to use. There were some things that came up saying it is safe, but others saying it can interact with things and create different unsafe vocs, like formaldehyde. That’s what has kept me from trying it so far, but trying to find more information on Wellis and that type of technology.

The "Core" series (round ones) are definitively NOT HEPA. They still clean air, but if the certification is important to you, they definitely failed to get certified and misled their customers. Their "Vital" series (rectangular) is still HEPA, but they've backed off from marketing it that way due to their legal woes.

So… I don’t know who told you that you only had to replace the filters once a year but 90 days is optimistic for a Levoit Core. And washable filters are a terrible idea, nobody makes a good washable filter. Just replace the Levoit filter whenever it gets clogged up.

r/AirPurifiers • Recommendations for air purifier with washable filters? ->
Reddit Icon
UncleGurm • 10 months ago

Pet dander requires a HEPA filter, with or without the boost you get from static charging depending on your tolerance for that. VOC filters such as Austin sadly come at the expense of HEPA performance. If you don’t know that you have a VOC problem you don’t need one of those. I’d avoid Honeywell just because their filter design is currently … expensive and power hungry. You just want to move as much air as possible and have a removable washable or disposable pre-filter. Look for units with high CADR, a carbon grid for pet odors, and washable or disposable pre-filters. Coway Airmega 250 and up, Winix, or there are some excellent new entries like the Airkit. Levoit Everest Air is good, but avoid their Core (round) series.

r/AirPurifiers • Does anyone have a heavy duty air purifier they’d recommend for someone with multiple pets? ->
Reddit Icon
UncleGurm • 10 months ago

It’s pretty well documented stuff, and I’m n it shy about it. Several reasons: 1. False claims of being HEPA, but actually being a mid-grade flexible filter. 2. No removable pre-filter, instead they recommend vacuuming the main filter which damages it. Newer filters supposedly come with better pre-filters but it took a public outcry and lawsuit to get them to address these two issues. 3. Small fans and tiny filters, this means the fan has to run faster and will burn out quicker. This is not specific to Levoit, all little round units are like this. The filters will also wear out sooner. Levoit claims a much longer lifespan for them than is realistic. In reality they will need to be replaced every 90 days. This means that the operating costs for these units are MUCH higher than competing units. 4. Price - while some models are cheap, others are MUCH more expensive than better built competitors. 5. Credible reports say that Levoit uses sub-par Chinese capacitors on their boards. ALL OF THIS SAID… these units do clean air pretty well. And if you already own one, you can get better filters for them. Filters with more carbon and good pre-filters. So don’t throw it away or anything. I don’t recommend junking them, I just don’t recommend BUYING them when there are better choices. In general, many of these problems are indemic to all round units. I suspect that irrespective of manufacturer they aren’t really HEPA filters - HEPA filters are not flexible, and most of these round units ship their filters flat packed. There are exceptions - air doctor for example - but in general I always recommend getting a rectangular unit with a real filter.

I’d yank the Levoit units off this list unless cost is your biggest driver. While the Everest air is a good unit, the core is just not. It will clean air at first but it is cheap and the filter cost will add up over time. The lack of real pre-filters really kills these things. From your list, Medify is excellent. As is Coway 400. IQ Air will filter better than any of these units… but moves a lot less air doing so. I own one and I love it but I fully admit it lacks airflow and is VERY expensive. Alen is also good, you can optionally equip them with extra carbon which is nice. You won’t regret any of these purchases tbh.

I really like the Levoit. It’s super quiet on the lowest setting and you can turn the lights off. My husband is a bozo who needs white noise to sleep so he always turns it up to its highest setting and then doesn’t turn the lights off. We have a coway airmega for our living area but I prefer the way the Levoit looks and my older son kept messing with the coway and it got stuck on a setting so I can’t turn it up or down. Yeah, as others are pointing out the pandemic is far from over. Air purifiers are a great idea. We have them in every room of the house.
