I never had allergies prior to about two years ago. But now I wake up coughing every morning with dripping teary eyes and nose. You know what fixed it? An air purifier. No joke, I never thought I’d become one of those people https://a.co/d/7gpWgYl
I love my levoit and will always be an advocate. Yes you have to change filters every 6 months, but that just means ITS WORKING!!! Quakers are notorious for floofs floating in the air because they are some of the fluffiest and softest birds. My baby is 23 yrs old with breathing issues and the air quality is completely different when I have the levoit running. Birds who may need stronger purifiers would be cockatoos and cocktails. They shed differently. I purchased the 600s and I lug that baby all around the house from living room to kitchen to bedroom depending on where the babies are. It stays in the living room with their day cages mostly. It detects the slightest increases and i set it to alert me when it rises. It was working hard when they repaved the street outside! It worked even harder when air quality from smoke and local fires couldn't be helped. Theres a digital timer you can ignore or reset whenever. Go with Hepa every time if you go off brand for filters. Levoit brand filters start at 59.99 for my 600s thats only 120/year which is equal to 10 bucks per month. Its worth it to me. I have 2 birds, a quaker and a conure. I recommend you get them 300s-p for yourself. Its about 100 but the filters go for about 30 bucks every 6 months. It could even last longer if you open it up and it looks fine still. https://a.co/d/6VV63By
I have a Q and I use the Levoit air cleaners. They work great, some even have apps ( neat addition but certainly not needed) super easy to clean and fairly quiet. One model is even a box, that can go against walls or furniture, if space is a concern. I also buy generic filters for them, compared to paying tao fines as much for the name brand. About ever 2-3 weeks, I even wipe off the filters, to extend there life a little more. It is insane and even kinda gross how much “stuff” those filters take out if the air in a week or two! I don’t deal with much dust in my house now either. I swear by good air cleaners! This is the one I spoke of above that can go against a wall, curtains or furniture. https://a.co/d/bATDubu They have many others too that are smaller and cheaper. This is the small cylinder one I have, it was my first. Works great, nothing fancy no apps. I keep this in the den. https://a.co/d/0AeZxvt Whatever you decide on, just. Reminder to not have it close on your birds cage. You don’t want any the bird to feel any breeze or draft at anytime, ever. And regular cleaning is a must! Good luck! Best wishes to you and your Q too!
Mine are Levoit and I am super pleased with this brand.
I have several models of Levoit and I love them. They work so well. The generic filters I found on Amazon work great too, at half the price. I like to wipe my filters off monthly, or even biweekly if possible. It makes the filters last longer and I just feel it helps to keep the air cleaner. I have the round filters and the square one. I like the square one the best as filters are cheaper and you can put it against a wall or furniture and it is ok. Good luck!!
I had two Levoit die on me very prematurely. The brand is dead to me.
I have this Levoit in my office, good for 1000+ sq ft. It’s also on sale on Amazon right now. I also buy generic filters vs the Levoit ones and save a few bucks on maintenance. https://a.co/d/1VLTApU
I use Levoit air purifiers in my home and pleased with them. A lot of their models are on sales on Amazon right now. I would suggest NOT leaving your window open if you’re concerned about allergens as well.
FYI HEPA filters are basically marketing BS in the consumer world. Very few filters with "HEPA" in their description are actually capable of meeting HEPA standards. $400 for a 200sqft capable air purifier is crazy. I have a Levoit core-300 for my 100sq ft room and it clears out my vape smoke in a matter of seconds. I believe its possible to get activated charcoal filters for this to help reduce odor, if not you can find activated charcoal sheets or packets to put inside the air path. There's a community supported HA integration for Levoit, but its reliant on the cloud service. You can flash the Core 300 with ESPHome though and have it work completely locally. I also have a Xiaomi Air Purifier 3C, it also relies on a community maintained integration with Xiaomi Miot but it can work locally too, I know cause I have it blocked from internet access and it works fine. There is also a way to flash ESPHome on these, but I haven't tried. I'm using that one in my living room which is somewhere around 800 - 900 sqft but its a double height living room so there's a tremendous amount of volume there. Side note, make sure you've looked at fixing other parts of your house before getting an air purifier. Make sure your AC ducts are clean, and the filter for your AC is working properly. Though don't put a high MERV filter in there unless your air handler is designed for it. You can actually filter more without putting extra stress on your air handler with thicker filters, but in my experience its rare to see units that can hold the thicker filters without modification. Also make sure your windows are sealed properly.
I have a Levoit 300 which can be flashed with ESPHome for full local control. You can find a GitHub link to the process in my profile/comments, just search "levoit". Should be there somewhere.
They should be the same, but I don't know 100%. I bought mine about 2 years ago.
