"I got a Levoit Core air purifier a few months ago and have been happy with it for odor control. ... I primarily got it as a couple friends are allergic to my cat and have suffered when visiting 😂 happy to report it’s been great in that regard, too"

"The "Core" series (round ones) are definitively NOT HEPA. ... They still clean air, but if the certification is important to you, they definitely failed to get certified and misled their customers."
"I got upset when I found out my 4 levoit core 300 were not hepa lol."
"Levoit is a popular brand but they came under fire in the last few years, can't remember exactly when, for lying about being HEPA rated and/or no longer can claim to be or something."

"the secondhand ones can be pretty cheaply made which makes me want to consider another brand or even the DIY method whenever a replacement seems necessary."
"I’m using levoit filters at home and they’re fine and the 2.5 levels are very low. I can also connect them to home assistant which is a big plus for me so I can monitor the filter level(though I’m guessing this is just an arbitrary use based calculation). But I do regret buying them due to the replacement thing."
"The cost of the filter replacements keep going up though"

"They’re not quiet either."
"I just use them on manual and they are totally fine, a bit noisy though."

"The Levoit 300 is probably fine for a bathroom type space, but it is generally undersized for most rooms. ... Better options would be something like the Levoit vital 200, Levoit core 400/600, Coway Airmega, or AirFanta 3."
It’s a good choice for the money. I’ll probably get one for my living area eventually. I just got a core 400 a few days ago for my bedroom. Note that you can get the 600 on Amazon for $260
Please see the stickied thread in this sub about dust. Purifiers are not designed to get rid of dust. Shark sucks. Don’t under any circumstances buy one. BlueAir is fine, but overpriced and the filters are expensive. Levoit is a good, cost effective brand. It is on par with Coway and Winix. You cannot go wrong with a unit from any of those manufacturers.
It probably won’t damage the purifier, but it can cause issues with the filter growing mold or developing a smell if you use it in very humid spaces like a bathroom longterm. For a few days, it’s not going to affect it that much. I would however set up a fan in the window to suck air out of the bathroom and then run it while he’s in there and after he’s done. That’s gonna be honestly more effective than a small air purifier and help with the air changes. If your home has an HVAC system though (meaning air is recycled throughout the house), you need an air purifier in your bedroom just to be safe. The Levoit 300 is probably fine for a bathroom type space, but it is generally undersized for most rooms. Better options would be something like the Levoit vital 200, Levoit core 400/600, Coway Airmega, or AirFanta 3.
If you buy one I check for something along the lines of True Hepa filters to catch the finer particles and activated carbon pellets to help out with odours. There are so many reviews comparing different brands, you'll usually see the same few at the top of the charts and the units will state what size of a room they're ideal for. It would come down to finer details like noise levels, filter replacement costs and if you care about added digital tech. Another deal breaker could be if it has an ozone feature which can be a health risk. It could even just come down to if something is on sale. After checking around and comparing reviews I settled on a Levoit Core 400s on sale and it does a good job with smoke where I've had this since the last bout of forest fires a few years ago, but it does lose that "whisper quiet" feature over time. Went for it since it also helps a good deal with pet hair and odours. The cost of the filter replacements keep going up though and the secondhand ones can be pretty cheaply made which makes me want to consider another brand or even the DIY method whenever a replacement seems necessary. You can check out a site like https://www.airpurifierfirst.com/ to see what's out there.
I like to use them for that too! Just not if it starts to get a little bit clunky with a wobbly fan breaking up the flow of sound, but I have super sensitive hearing. If I keep the 400s on a speed of 1 or above it works just fine, just not great anymore at the sleeping level for me. It's a good brand and their current square shaped fan the Vital 200s is supposed to be even better. Overall the ones mentioned so far Levoit, Blue Air and Coway are all pretty reliable options that help a lot with smoke filtration.
Also a Clevelander 👋 I got the Levoit Core 400S last week. I set it to auto and it just works.
I’ve used the Levoit Core 400S for about a year, and it’s been great.
Just get a plain and simple air purifier. Don't get anything that ionizes or makes ozone like all the BlueAir stuff. We have a couple Levoit Core 400s that work great.
I use the VeSync Core 400s through Homebridge. A little big but they’re very good, and whisper quiet on the lower settings.
I use the Levoit Core 400S in my living room and honestly noticed the difference within a few days ... the air just feels lighter, and that “pet smell” when you walk in from outside basically vanished.
I'm in Italy and use Levoit Core 400s for baby room. They works great, and you can control them via wifi. There is a home assistant integration, so you can connect them with Ikea air quality monitor around the house. https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/vesync/
We bought multiple units of Levoit Core 400s (1 per room, higher-ceilings). We are very happy with the result. Keep in mind that while the air may start improving immediately, many of the symptoms you feel may take a few days to disappear. In my case, in particular, I stopped taking my daily dose of antihistamine starting 4 days after the Levoits. That was in September 2024.
We bought multiple units Levoit Core 400s in January 2024. Quite satisfied in terms of value for money, operation options, and upstream costs.
We have Levoit Core 400s in two rooms for nearly 18 months. Quite happy.
