Yeah, as long as you don't mind some easy assembly (they typically take me 30 minutes), the ones that use computer fans and MERV 13 furnace filters are the best performing - they are quiet, have a high clean air delivery rate, and have a large air envelope. Having a big air envelope means they move more air around, and so particulates in the air get removed more quickly, since the air is moving around more. I have a bunch of the [CleanAirKits Luggables](https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/luggables), they are great. There is also the [Nukit Tempest](https://cybernightmarket.com/products/the-nukit-tempest-pro-complete-air-purifier-kit-usa), although the tariffs have made it more expensive. 2000 square feet is a LOT. With four of the XL Ultra Luggables, you'd have 1333 cfm of smoke CADR, which is the recommended amount according to AHAM. That said, you could start with one or two of them, and see whether that's enough for your space. More units also helps since the reach of any single unit is limited. These type of air cleaners are by far cheaper to run than HEPA-based cleaners. You have to take into account the cost of replacement filters and the electricity cost. HEPA cleaners use a lot more electricity.

I was making Corsi Rosenthal boxes but got sick of taping them together every 3-6 months. Also wanted something quieter. Ended up getting this https://cybernightmarket.com/products/the-nukit-tempest-pro-complete-air-purifier-kit-usa?srsltid=AfmBOop60CvIFlO8lrWacWZekdKn34_9AJUVVhV_YxqDRQ_9iYEdCvtF It’s based on an open source design so you can make / commission your own, but I had trouble finding metal workers to make them.

The new version also takes an even more “standard” / common air filter size (1 inch thickness) which you can get at Costco / hardware stores easily and even cheaper.

Seconding this. The Nukit has the major advantages of (1) using generic 20x20x2 furnace filters (2) easy/cheap parts replacement. Also the form factor looks like a computer, which imo is more easy to "hide" than most air filters on the market

I’m team PC fan MERV-13 air purifiers. It’s mind blowing how quiet and electrically efficient they are while pushing hundreds of CFM. My favorite is the Nukit Tempest Pro because it’s the most durable, most electrically efficient, and compatible with standard 20x25x1” filters + 140mm PC fans. As for the odors, you really will get the best experience from a separate activated carbon only air purifier, like this setup: https://youtube.com/watch?v=3LybFZm0vVo (Separate particulate and odor air purifiers because having to pull air through electrostatic filters AND activated carbon causes so much pressure drop that fans have to use tons of electricity and cause lots of noise to get the job done)

I second this, also look in to the Nukit Tempest! PC fan purifiers are great, I’ve had mine for a year and love it.

Clean Air Kits, Nukit Tempest or DIY PC Fan CR Box. Generic filters: Yes. Furnace air filters, use whatever you want. Turn on after power cut: Yes.

AirFanta 3Pro is a good unit with a high CADR, tho not the quietest. If you can do a Nukit Tempest, that would be a very quiet unit with a great CADR.

I own a luggable and it’s alright, but it doesn’t seal without tape. Huge pain in the ass to change the filters. If using furnace filters is the priority for you, then you could also consider the Nukit Tempest, but I wouldn’t buy another one of these types unless I needed a high CADR unit that needed to be absolutely silent. They are expensive for what they are
