I literally just bought two of these for my apartment, no idea yet if they work but it’s the only air purifier I’ve been able to find that focuses solely on VOC’s. They have 3 sizes based on square footage. https://oransi.com/products/truecarbon-270c-air-purifier

Not gonna find anything. Activated carbon is required for odors and it just so happens to make purifiers expensive, the more they include of it. Cheapest AC unit I can think of is the Oransi TrueCarbon. All of their models use 3lbs of carbon however their cheapest model for the smallest room size is still 250 bucks.

You need carbon filtration for odours, not just HEPA (which only filter out particulates). You need pounds of activated carbon. The Oransi TrueCarbon springs to mind, but it's expensive ($600) and the carbon filter would need to be replaced every few months ($100 a pop).

Yeah you definitely want carbon. HEPA is not necessary in your case and not in almost any purifier. It's usually "good enough" but not as good as non hepa almost always. My vote would be on the starkvind purely from a cost to space standpoint as effectively it takes up "no" space. But if the smell is that bad you may want to consider something like the Oransi Truecarbon Of course if you can ventilate, blow the air away, remove/cover the flooring, or bake out the VOCs(or some combo of those) that's much preferred

We have a few models: Oransi mod+ for large spaces, Winix 5500 for a bedroom and Oransi TrueCarbon for smoke odor removal. Have tried some others and like these the best.

Oransi TrueCarbon is the answer. Whether it will actually work for your use case is another question. Also look into Austin Air, they have some cheaper units.

Nothing on your list is going to help with cigarette odor. Sorry. You need many pounds of carbon for that. You could try an Oransi TrueCarbon but you might need a carbon heavy unit and those start around $750.

Under $500 you have exactly one odor purifier and that’s the Oransi TrueCarbon. There are others with a little carbon but not enough to mitigate cooking or pet odors.

Maximum CADR. VOC mitigation. I'd recommend a Smart Air Blast in the largest size you can afford, and also an Oransi TrueCarbon. Do you have forced hot air or forced hot water for heat?

It has the most carbon you can get for under $750.
