Would the specs you just listed apply to the Shark Neverchange available at Costco? Because I just got that one, although it advertises 1500 sq ft for 1 change per hour. I can’t figure out what the CADR ratings are for it. I’m considering returning it. Wish the Winix C909 was in stock at Costco. Would be curious to hear your thoughts on a replacement that would cover an area similar to what the Shark should actually cover. Would the Winix 5520 on Amazon be a good choice? It’s actually heavily discounted right now.
We don't have that one, but we do have a Shark air purifier from Costco. It can't be just any spray. I had the same concern. We sprayed an aerosol spray near the back of the purifier, and it immediately dropped. It's super dusty and gross where I live so I was skeptical. I have since put it into a room shortly after smoking and the quality also changed.
I have a little round Levoit, a Shark from Costco, an Air Doctor and now a few Alens. The Alens were supposed to be an upgrade but the model I chose has no auto button and seems to have no dim mode. The Air Doctor has both but the filters are STUPID expensive. The Levoit has both, I bought it offbrand filters and can't tell. The Shark has auto. But Shark changes everything every few years so I can't count on getting their filters again. All of them seem to do a perfectly fine job keeping my pet-filled air clean.
I have a few Shark brand HEPA air purifiers I got at Costco. They're a little pricey, but they work great, they're quiet, and they have a built-in air quality monitor for PM 2.5, 5, and 10. If you don't have that kind of money, you can make those DIY air filters with a box fan and a MERV-13 air filter made for furnaces. If you don't use something like this, yeah its likely your indoor air quality isn't much better than the outside. I think people greatly take for granted the influence of air quality on their health. I can't believe I see people jogging on the side of busy roads on days where the AQI exceeds 200, but I see it all the time.
Looks the same as ours we got a year ago. We have a dog, three cats, and two children. Really the only time it goes low is if we are cooking bacon. I usually just leave it at level two speed. It does pick up hair and what not. Usually open it up and pull hair off of the outside of the filter every month.
I have had mine for a few months and mine works great. It’s super sensitive. It is on auto and I can see it working when I’m cooking and when my HVAC turns on. I have a 105 year old house and it has noticeably helped my allergies. Not sure if maybe it’s the placement? No real idea honestly.
As soon as we took this thing out of the box and set it up I knew it didn’t actually work. I’ve had other air purifiers and this thing just never ran. Returned it that same night.
I have had one of these for a couple years. I know it's pulling in air because of all the cat hair I have to clean off of it. It also changes when I cook, a cat uses the litter box, my husband walks inside from smoking, etc. Sound like your might be a dud. The "air quality" detector is 4 small holes on the back. Bring a burning candle or put out a match near those spots to see if the reported air quality changes.
I got two and it's getting super clogged with the senors. I put a new filter in and it's still 0%. Just make sure you clean it frequently.
You also have it to close to the wall. The sensors that read the air are in the back. The directions say it needs to be like 6 inches away from the wall to work correctly. https://preview.redd.it/cu3dvtfrocne1.png?width=1440&format=png&auto=webp&s=a9aaba9a94e2bcba209f5c6033b693a6d48727a4
I got a great Black Friday deal on the Shark Max last year. No apps and filters seem to be available through Shark and third parties easily. Yet to see how long it will last but I don’t do see any issues.
