https://a.co/d/gvmjZlS I have no complaints. Shark purifier with air quality indicator and fever change filter.
Just a suggestion, but steam cleaning the carpet can really, really help. We just had new carpet put in and found out I am flat out allergic to whatever chemicals are in it. We've run the steam cleaner over it a bunch of times and it's made a huge difference. I also noticed I was better after we did steam cleaning in my room. I happen to own a steam cleaner because cats, lol. But I thought I would throw that out there.
>Do you have any theories as to what in new carpet you're allergic to? My working theory is polyurethane. We moved into an apartment with new carpet back in the summer (our house had storm damage, hence this entire debacle) and it had new carpet. I think it had enough time to off gas and probably was steam cleaned because I never had an issue, but when I moved back here, I closed up within five minutes and had to use my epi pen. I had to go check into a hotel, and it's been a week and three passes over my bedroom carpet with a steam cleaner, and I STILL cannot sleep in there. We are going to have to do another pass over all the bedrooms and at least one more over mine, plus we have been airing out the room and running HEPA filters. We opted to replace a bunch of our previous carpeted floor with hardwood. I am so glad we did because I cannot imagine how much worse this could have been. Basement carpeting will eventually need to go too and will be replaced with laminate. If you were trying to get your wife to put in hardwood, I absolutely recommend it. This carpet was installed on October 28.
GET ONE. I am not kidding when I say that they are amazing and I recommend them to everyone regardless of whether or not you have asthma and allergies because they keep your home so much cleaner. I have to dust maybe once a month. Maybe. And I have cats. The Shark Never Change ones are the best ones I've owned. They tell you how the air quality is in your home and adjust accordingly. And you only have to change the filter once every five years. Earlier today I was having trouble, and we looked and saw that the air quality wasn't great on its sensor. It was like "oh, well, that helps explain my symptoms." https://a.co/d/3cNRidG
Yeah, Shark is mediocre and uses misleading marketing. Frequent issues with the AQI display as well.
Please read the AutoModerator comment. Air purifiers aren't good at reducing *visible* dust as it's larger and heavier than "invisible" pollutants like PM10 and PM2.5. The same goes for pet hair. Sans is terrible. Shark is mediocre. Avoid both. Coway is generally one of the highest quality consumer-grade brands. Winix is good, more mid-grade. Blueair has an always-on ionizer. Some people want to avoid this because of possible health effects associated with ionizers or changes in gaseous air chemistry. Per the AHAM 2/3 rule, a space 600-800 sq. ft. needs minimum Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs) of 400 CFM - 534 CFM. Unfortunately your budget doesn't support a single large or multiple conventional HEPA purifiers. (An example that meets CADRs would be the [Coway Airmega ProX](https://cowaymega.com/products/airmega-prox).) If you still want a conventional HEPA purifier, go with the [Winix C909 at Costco](https://www.costco.com/p/-/winix-c909-4-stage-air-purifier-with-wi-fi-plasmawave-technology/100842491). It's a bit of an energy hog (95 W) and somewhat loud on the highest setting called "Turbo" (60 dBA per the Decibel X Android app), but it's good value for money. The C909 has PlasmaWave, a bipolar ionizer. You may want to keep this off if you have pet birds. Another option may be the [AirFanta 3Pro](https://air-fanta.com/products/airfanta-3pro). It uses Efficient Particulate Air (EPA) E11 filters, which is two filter classes below HEPA H13. Top composite CADR is 413 for the CARB Edition. Price is $159.99. Keep in mind CADRs listed by purifiers apply to the highest airflow speed/setting only. Lower settings have lower CADRs which reduces cleaning effectiveness.
I think I'm parsing your comment here correctly, but... don't buy Shark. It's a lousy brand with very misleading marketing—e.g., "NeverChange" filters. They don't publish Clean Air Delivery Rates (needed to size a purifier for wildfire smoke particulates). It also has a tiny amount of activated carbon so it's useless for VOCs or other gases. We've seen multiple issues with Shark's air quality display malfunctioning on r/AirPurifiers. You need many pounds of activated carbon or other sorbent media for wildfire smoke gases, VOCs, or odors. And even then, plain/non-chemically treated activated carbon doesn't have high removal efficiencies for all gaseous species.
The shark is overpriced and the filter lasts no longer than any other brand (in other words “never change” is a straight up lie). The bad news is that no filter is really going to keep up with a constant dust source without frequent replacement. I’d focus on whichever one has the cheapest filters.
I bought the shark never change as my first purifier just recently and I feel the difference with my allergies. The 5 year filter change really attracted me but after reading here a little more I might need to change it more frequently. I also tried the blue air for my office but didn't like it, I didn't feel any difference and it was noisy, I returned it and got the smaller shark never change .

I like my Shark NeverChange. Quiet and covers a large area. Real time air quality feedback too.
I was unable to get the bottom filter cover off as well. I tried everything! Only 6 months old. Called shark and they are sending a replacement 🙄 this is a common issue with this model. Gotta love plastic. Not impressed for what I paid. Always register your product for warranty. Everything is junk now.
I use one of the shark neverchange air purifiers. Big fan. It helps my partner, who has severe allergies.
