Forgot to mention I don't recommend the new winix 5520 from Amazon over the c909 because it has a louder fan and lower cadr rating for basically the same price.

I have winix 5520 its crap, I don't even think its working. Fan started rattling after 1 week! Says brand new but I doubt it is new. They get lots of return. Since I am from Canada returning that crap is a waste of time and energy, they want it back to its original box+another box for shipping I throw away the box and wants me to drop it to the closest Purolator like 30-1 hour away from me and I don't drive LOL. Maybe buy a better brand. Bought from Amazon their main store. Winix(US)

They are for your health. To remove smell, ventilation is the only option. Air purifiers can only reduce the smell. Check your city's summer air quality and winter air quality, then you can determine from there. Also, a ~$200 Winix one like 5510 or 5520 for each room would be best. All-in-ones are generally not so great.

Not worth it at all, tried it for a week and returned. The “auto” mode turns off the fan entirely because the sensor claims the air is 100% clean which defeats the entire point of an air purifier. Also uses sent pods which just add VOCs to the air. Got the Winix 5520 from Amazon on sale for $150 and night and day better. Fully automated but air is always moving even on sleep mode. Also quicks up to higher speeds quickly when cooking or my dog farts while walking by lol.

It doesn't pull air like the 5502 and 5300 and this is the next generation of the 5500-2. On speed 2 the purifier does not hold toilet paper (one squate) the 5502 does. And it doesn't blow air out hard as the 5502. I guess it is my test but I'm not keeping it. I just ordered another 5502.

Winix is a better option. Levoit is an Amazon-special brand. It’s best to avoid their products and sister brand products. That said, both of these are woefully underpowered for your space. Even though they claim 1800 sqft. That’s at 1 air change per hour. If you want any noticeable filtration you’ll need ~4 ACH. I’d look at 2 units maybe on either end of your space? Look at the rectangle units too. They’re more effective. The 5510 is popular here.

For about a 400sq ft master bedroom that has the same carpet of close to 30 years and multiple dogs in the house. While waiting to get availability for them to replace the whole upstairs and redo carpet to whatever tile/hardwood my fiancé picked. I bought the Winix 5510 for $170 off amazon 2 weeks ago. I shit you not, I wake up less than 2 times a night now and there’s a huge noticeable difference in odor too. I’m not going to lie and say it magically makes that old dirty carpet smell away, but it was so noticeable that when I tried bragging about it (I was laughed at) everyone tried downplaying me by saying “yeah it’s better but I can still kinda smell it”. I am very very happy

So sorry to hear about your baby being impacted. I don't know much about the best filters dor hvac systems but as far as air purifiers, my budget recommendation is Winnix 5510 for the baby's bedroom. It is beyond your budget though. Perhaps family and friends can pitch in? It has a carbon pellet filter to help with the smoke. I'd recommend the fan speed one step down from the highest if you think your little one can tolerate it. Could help them sleep with the white noise. Wishing you all the best 🤍

I would suggest the Winix 5500-2. It's rated for 360 sq ft based on the highest fan speed. It has about 4 fan speeds and you'd probably want to run it at the next to highest fan speed during the day. There's a "smart" version with app support: 5510. Only con with the 5500-2 for a bedroom setting is the bright air quality indicator light. I've see some people say they cover it with black tape.

The size of the fan and the filters matter. This small device isn't going to effectively filter the air in a 1,000+ sq ft space as it's being advertised. As someone still taking COVID precautions, I'm not depending on this device as a mitigation layer. Even if I had bad allergies, it's not going to effectively clean the air compared to a Winix 5510 or AirFanta 3Pro

None of the filters for Winix are washable. The pre-filter, yes but not the main filter. I find vacuuming the pre-filter is easier than washing. With washing you have to wait for the pre filter to dry before adding it back to the purifier.

I would look at a winix model. I have the 5510 and the website claims it will filter to .01 microns. They have a few models that claim they filter to .003. Not sure if the same size filters could fit in my model or not, but I may return and opt for a model that claims to filter to .003. Aside from basic dusting and cleaning, a finer filter and plasma wave may help to reduce your allergic reactions.

So the page shows 400m3/h which apparently comes to 235 cfm. This is less than my Winix 5510 that is 248cfm and is less than 1/3rd the price of this at $750. Even if this Dreame model is higher, it's highly doubtful it is 3 times as high so one could just buy 3 cheaper purifiers and get better performance. Purifiers should be based on air exchanges per hour, not some silly square footage figure like your website shows. The website shows "up to 7534 sq ft in an hour" but based on the cfm of this model, it can maybe do one exchange per hour which is damn near useless. Basically, large in size higher priced purifiers are a complete scam. It's the same with Dyson as some here are talking about as though they are some gold standard. They don't have any special cfm figure. And what is with claiming this heats and cools? There is no condenser so it doesn't cool. Completely false advertising. I also doubt it has a heater built in.

If you're actually looking for any functionality, Dyson is off the table. When it comes to Dyson's air purifiers, design dictates function, so the engineers had to consider the aesthetics of the device over the functionality. The Philips 8000 is essentially the same thing as the Dyson, Philips doesn't have magic engineers, they're using the same "bladeless fan" design. The "bladeless" look they're going for essentially uses a cylindrical centrifugal fan to force air through small channels and out from the thin gaps around the upper frame, this is completely an aesthetic design and does absolutely nothing functionally except increase noise levels and suffocate air volume output. Hence why at anything above 5/10 fan speed, this fan sounds like a jet engine. If you want a functional air purifier, look at the Winix 5510 ($165) for an affordable option, Shark HP302 ($330) for a midrange option, Medify MA-112 ($700) for a high end option. If you want functional VOC filtration, the consumer grade stuff won't cut it. You have very few options like the IQ Air Health Pro Plus XE ($1,200) or AustinAir Healthmate Plus ($855) and the other options are industrial grade filtration systems like the ones I have for my workshop. However, this is unnecessary unless you live in a city with absolutely terrible air quality. I only have gas filtration because I have machines that emit toxic fumes and UFPs.

The Shark HP302 is the largest Neverchange model. By the way, the neverchange claim is a marketing gimmick, they just have high quality pre-filters that are easily cleanable which extends the life of the HEPA filter, which to their credit is probably a HEPA13 filter and will likely outlast most other models but should be replaced after 2-3 years.  The Medify has substantially higher airflow than any of the other consumer grade options, it will be able to filter much greater volume in less time. It is pricey but you were willing to pay for Dyson and it’s around the same ballpark. You can probably order direct from their website.  The Coway air purifiers are a good midrange option. Blue air is more of a low end option.  The Winix 5510 is just the newer version of the 5300. The biggest difference is that the 5300 uses a fibrous carbon filter while the 5510 uses a higher quality pellet charcoal filter. As I’ve already said previously, none of these consumer-grade activated charcoal/carbon filters are actually effective for more than a week or so. Won’t make much of a difference functionally between the 5510 and 5300, you’re only really looking at the HEPA filtration. If you want real gas filtration, you gotta pay up for the IQ Air or AustinAir.

Yep, the Winix 5510 does seem to be better in terms of AHAM Verifide Suggested Room Size and Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADRs). Personally I think it looks a bit nicer than the 5500-2 as well. The Winix 5510 uses Filter Q – 1712-0123-00. Link to the filter set is here: [https://www.winixamerica.com/product/filter-q-1712-0123-00/](https://www.winixamerica.com/product/filter-q-1712-0123-00/) I don't think any other Winix purifiers use Filter Q – 1712-0123-00 currently. And given the 5510 is new, there may not be a great incentive for other sellers to offer the filter set right now. Therefore you could be stuck ordering directly from Winix for some time—who could easily charge $79.99 (full price) in the future. In contrast, you can buy Winix Filter A – 115115 (compatible with Winix purifier models 6300, P300, 5300, 5500, 5300-2, 6300-2, AM90, C909, 9800, and C535) at [The Home Depot for $27.99](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Winix-True-HEPA-4-Filter-Activated-Carbon-Replacement-Filter-A-115115/202034412).

A lot of people have already said that it does fit. Have you actually tried it or are you just repeating what you've seen? I honestly don't know, but I'm going to order the honey comb carbon filters just to see. I also think on Amazon, they show those filters working for both.

I ordered a Winix 5510 earlier today, and these are the replacement filters that supposedly work for both the 5500-2 and the 5510. They are the honeycomb style, so fingers crossed. It also says it works for the Am80 style which the company has said is the same as the 5510. I originally wanted to get the Am80 or Am90 since they look more modern, but too many people complain about them eventually getting louder over time. Heres the Amazon link to the filters. Yeah, I saw that. Thanks for letting me know. I asked the seller, so hopefully, they'll get back to me. I think they might test them during manufacturing. They definitely look brand new. About the charcoal in the honeycomb filters, it looks like there's as much as the original, sometimes even more. Customer pics are a mixed bag. I haven't ordered replacement filters yet. Looks like the 5510 comes with the honeycomb ones, not the carbon-sprayed kind. If it lasts a year, I don't need to order more right away. But if it's the sprayed kind, I'll order the honeycomb ones ASAP and let you know how they fit.

So these are not the same size filters. The HEPPA filter that comes with the 5510 dimensions are: Length: 28cm Height: 33cm Width: 2 1/2 cm I'm not really sure why everything says the 5500-2 filters would fit the 5510. I will say that the 5510 does come with the pellet charcoal filter. But the Amazon filters that say fit are about an inch bigger in all directions. Hope this helps anyone looking.

I really like the 5510 model. Having it compatible with the app is really great. Like I said before, it also uses charcoal pellets, and not all models do. I just hope that more options for filters come out. I really don't want to buy them from Winex because they are extremely overpriced. You can get like 4 sets of filters for the 5500-2 for the price of 1 set for the 5510 right now on Amazon.

So you're focusing on the wrong things. Almost all units we recommend are H13 rated. Coway, Winix, even Levoit Vital. And third-party testing is ... not super relevant at this price point. You want a Coway 250 or Levoit Vital 200 for the upstairs and a Coway 1512 or Coway 150 or Winix 5510 or Levoit Vital 100 for the downstairs.

Winix 5510 (180$ on Amazon), but there's a catch. It will do 350 sqft at 5 ACH (air changes per hour), for you that means absolutely clean air, however that's on speed 4 ( turbo), which is pretty loud. You have to run your air purifiers 24/7 (at least while you're in the home), so there's 2 options. You either place it as far from you as possible (12 inch clearance from the wall) or you push your budget a little and get 2 of them, so you can run them on speed 3(high), which is not loud. What matters most is those continuous air changes, so for your health and to not have a loud noise 24/7, I really recommend getting 2 Winix 5510, or 2 Levoit vital 200s, or 1 of each if you want the better Winix Hepa filter and the higher quantity of activated carbon in the Levoit. P.S. the Levoit I believe costs $160 on Amazon rn. (Edit): I forgot to add, because of your state of health, I would run the Winix with the ionizer off, idk if the slight increase in ozone exposure would be harmful.

I’ve been using my Winix with Plasmawave since 2019 without issue, and that includes moving about once per year. These units have held up to that. I can tell you they really work. I have a mold allergy, and mold is literally everywhere in outdoor or indoor air with spores just waiting to land in a suitable environment for growth, but I have no symptoms at home with my two small Winix. I also have pets. These reduce any odors from that, and they are at what one might consider end of life for a typical air filter system. 5 years is typical. 10 is incredible. I am not washing the pre-filter nearly as often as I should and am slow to replace the carbon and HEPA filters sometimes, so 5+ is just astounding in my case.

You want a HEPA filter and actual activated carbon granules-sometimes the activated carbon is just a paper thin layer-not doing much. For cost, consider replacement filter costs not just up front ones. I also like ones that have a sensor so you can leave it on “auto” and it will kick on when you cook or air gets worse without you having to keep track of it. Also don’t splurge on plasma ion or ozone or whatever else-mixed studies show it can react with chemicals to form more dangerous ones at worst and generally not much better at best. Right now you may want to sacrifice optimality for actually having something going to clean your air since it’s a time of high uncertainty. What’s in stock at home depot may be superior to the “best” air purifier that arrives in 2 weeks. Those caveats-no one can give better advice based on “feel” than what’s tests show-and wirecutter actually tested performance https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-air-purifier/ . If you prefer anecdotes, here are some of my experiences: Winnix has been in stock at home depot. I evacuated with my air purifier and I needed something to leave during cleaning to try and detox my pasadena apartment. It was in stock and had hepa+carbon-it seems to be working. Oransi is the one I evacuated with, love the looks, it really seems to work well, lots of aftermarket filters available-downside is that sleep mode sets fan speed to auto, I want it to just turn lights off and leave the fan mode. But It has lasted at least 6+ years. Levoit is what was at the apartment I evacuated to. It seems a little less powerful per dollar spent than my oransi, but it’s night mode turns off the lights while still letting you set the fan speed. My roommate left a Coway going in his room and that thing worked very well to prevent any smoke smell from settling, and it’s highly recommended by wirecutter. If I had to buy right now and I could get one in a reasonable timeline, it’s how I would go.

Any filter with a charcoal filter layer will help some (Winix is one brand commonly available at Costco…I also have a more elaborate Rowenta)…my Winix came with multiple charcoal layer replacements. Dealing with total incontinence here, and not to criticize your MILs efforts, but you might want to look into the actual sources of the odors. Chairs, clothes that sit around waiting for wash, previously soaked furniture or carpet? If bedding or fabric furniture smells and you can replace it, do so. I use a combo of Depends on my father, and all his sleeping or seating surfaces have a first layer of puppy pee pads (Costco has large ones that work well and are cheap), and then a fabric layer on top (whether sheets or a chair cover or towel, tucked into the sides of the chair). Once he’s wet, after I changes his pants all clothes and chair covers and bedding goes in the wash (3-5 loads a day).  For the mattress you can find on Amazon washable mattress covers (the whole bed ones don’t work that well but that’s my base layer and then a thicker more absorbent one that I fit across the middle section of his bed, and on top of that layered dog pee pads).  So again, not sure if any of this advice helps but this method works for me.
