"The Winix has a light sensor that doesn't allow it to work in auto mode in a dark room. ... If I put mine in auto mode and turn the room lights off it goes into sleep mode which is basically turning it off."
"A window can be open across the house and my Ninja will notice a drop in AQI and speed up the fan while the winix just continues to blow slow. ... I have noticed if I turn the fan speed up on the winix it will notice the AQI change, but that makes the auto mode useless."

"The 850, however, has very little carbon. It can only mitigate the smallest odors - and only for a very short time if at all. ... But the 850 in particular is a budget round unit - they are well known for having almost zero carbon, poor pre-filtration, and no ability to upgrade."
"The Winix 5510 is just the newer version of the 5300. The biggest difference is that the 5300 uses a fibrous carbon filter while the 5510 uses a higher quality pellet charcoal filter. As I’ve already said previously, none of these consumer-grade activated charcoal/carbon filters are actually effective for more than a week or so."
"winix does the same…pre filter, carbon filter, hepa filter….I still had to change the carbon and hepa every six months."

"Fan started rattling after 1 week!"
"I just opened up and replaced bearings on one that has been running for maybe 8 years as it got too noisy."
"One became noisy after 3 months."

"I just hope that more options for filters come out. I really don't want to buy them from Winex because they are extremely overpriced. You can get like 4 sets of filters for the 5500-2 for the price of 1 set for the 5510 right now on Amazon."
"So these are not the same size filters. ... The HEPPA filter that comes with the 5510 dimensions are: Length: 28cm Height: 33cm Width: 2 1/2 cm ... I'm not really sure why everything says the 5500-2 filters would fit the 5510. I will say that the 5510 does come with the pellet charcoal filter. But the Amazon filters that say fit are about an inch bigger in all directions."
"I could buy a brand new unit for the price of 3 replacement filters."

"I would run the Winix with the ionizer off, idk if the slight increase in ozone exposure would be harmful."
I just bought it too lol 🔥
Winix 5510 - after some research I got that as it has the separate filters along with the front washable filter. Plus it’s got the carbon pellets instead of the carbon mesh which makes it more effective. Many of the others have integrated filters so have to replace the entire thing instead of just one which is bad. Apparently the previous model 5500-2 was even better but they discontinued it for the current 5510 which is a bit more noisy as they reduced the size. The new definitely looks better than the older one. It is for $128 currently on Amazon. The videos from this guy for air purifiers did help me make the decision - https://youtu.be/e3X-w9W4lws?si=EIte54rxT_VKO5iB
Carbon filter is not washable. https://preview.redd.it/xh2fadmpda5g1.jpeg?width=1307&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a50a9e0bb818ec6a753fe8d32205b0ce9aad57ef This is their manual for 5510 which says it’s not washable
5510 and 5520 are the same. Just the outside is a bit different. The on in your picture is 5500-2 which is the older model (now discontinued in US at least) for the 5510. Apparently the older model was better than the new 5510.
Just got the winix 5510 on Amazon on deal at 128. Check it out. Pretty great reviews. Have been watching this guy’s reviews to finalize this. In one of his videos he makes a valid point of having a pre filter that can be washed and this one has it. Those round winix models are all in one filter making it toss the entire filter even if the hepa filter part might be good. https://youtu.be/e3X-w9W4lws?si=ZeFZHh9Vqr9CIH9N He prefers the older model 5500-2 over this but that’s now discontinued.
Coway or Winix. I have a winix 5520 personally.
Forgot to mention I don't recommend the new winix 5520 from Amazon over the c909 because it has a louder fan and lower cadr rating for basically the same price.
i had a huge problem with the dust and air cus cars and construction were a daily nuisance where i lived. in the start i tried making a diy purifier because alot of the threads i read suggested it but it ended badly, messed up alot, so unless you're good witth that kind of stuff, don't try it. my apt is medium sized, not too big so a [winix 5520](https://google.com/share.google?q=WTK7MYqGSyVHPbMsH) works great, never needed nothing big. i think levoit has biggers ones if you want one that can cover a larger house
rabbit holes are worst thing about researching anything these days lol. I had similar experience when looking for one last year - started simple and ended up reading about CADR ratings and HEPA types for weeks. From your list, winix 5520 is pretty solid choice for the price range. Works well in smaller spaces and replacement filters aren't too expensive. Just make sure you check the coverage area since you're planning to move in bigger house later.
5510/5520 definitely a better choice. no point in buying 5500-2 when 5510/5520 exist.
I have winix 5520 its crap, I don't even think its working. Fan started rattling after 1 week! Says brand new but I doubt it is new. They get lots of return. Since I am from Canada returning that crap is a waste of time and energy, they want it back to its original box+another box for shipping I throw away the box and wants me to drop it to the closest Purolator like 30-1 hour away from me and I don't drive LOL. Maybe buy a better brand. Bought from Amazon their main store. Winix(US)
They are for your health. To remove smell, ventilation is the only option. Air purifiers can only reduce the smell. Check your city's summer air quality and winter air quality, then you can determine from there. Also, a ~$200 Winix one like 5510 or 5520 for each room would be best. All-in-ones are generally not so great.

I like the smoke filter with the 3 changeable pre-filters in the levoit. But I’ve had the 400s for 4-5 years it’s fine but when you change fan speeds it squeaks now after years of use. There’s no prefilter really unless you get that model. Well I guess there sort of is idk. Thinking about getting the 5520 Winix now Winix has a built in pre-filter easier to clean though I think.
