Weâre expecting our second in a few months and my babies will be 15 months apart. I have the Bugaboo Donkey 6. Itâs a super expensive stroller, but itâs the best push stroller Iâve tried out and I went to Nordstrom and tested all of the strollers they had. We had bought a Chicco Corso for our first because we got it for a steal, but it wasnât suited for the age gaps we intend to have. And yeah you can get a Graco or a Chicco, but thereâs a drastic difference in the flow and ease of pushing it. I can easily push the Bugaboo Donkey one handed while experiencing wrist pains associated with pregnancy, but I wouldnât have been able to do it with the Chicco Corso and not have to stop after a minute or two. I also like being able to throw more stuff on the bottom while shopping. I think the Corso had a 10lbs limit for the bottom basket and the Donkey 6 has 33lbs for the bottom basket and 22lbs for the side shopping bag. Now if itâs in your budget and you have more than enough to fund all of the other things needed for your baby, Iâd go for the Donkey. If you donât have the budget or youâd be taking away funds from something else to make it work, go for the Graco or something cheaper. But if youâre going for 2u2, Iâd opt for the double stroller from the start. We were planning it and didnât think about just going for a double in the beginning and so we wasted a little bit of money getting a stroller to use it for like 8-9 months before getting rid of it. And our original stroller didnât have nearly the amount of customization options as the one we have now. But paying $500 for the second sibling seat did hurt soâŚ
Iâm personally going with the bugaboo donkey (though rumor has it theyâre coming out with a new version soon so Iâm holding off to buy the newest version) because weâre having 2u2 and I donât anticipate using it as a single (their mono configuration) for very long. After watching and reading reviews from others, I decided to go with a side by side over a tandem stroller. We have the bugaboo butterfly 2 and I loved how smooth it was to push one handed and loved how easy it was fold. The donkey is bulky (as are most double strollers) and unfortunately doesnât stand on its own, but I love the ease and convenience I felt with doing the different configurations and the fact that you can leave the parts on when folding. I almost always take the toddler/modular seat off when putting the stroller back in the car, but I like having the option. Again, highly recommend going in to a store (I went to Nordstrom) to test out their floor models and see how easy it is to fold and expand, switch attachments, and get the babies in and out. When I went to Nordstrom, they answered any questions I had and also helped me put my baby in to one of the seats so I could see how he fit and then I put my heavy diaper bag into the other seat so I could get an actual feel of how the tandem strollers would push with babies in the seats. Oh and thereâs some YouTube channels like The Stroller Mom who do reviews on most of the more common strollers and will give you the pros and cons of them. If I remember correctly she has 3 kids 5 and under so sheâll use the strollers for like a week with her kids and talk about what she liked or didnât like.
Bought ours used and now selling it again to another lucky couple. Itâs a tank. I loved it.Â
Iâve been able to fit through every doorway weâve had to go through with mine (twins are 9 months). Hasnât been an issue.
We have a twin bugaboo donkey that I found o ln fb marketplace for a quarter of the cost. The main perk is two side by side basinets. This has been huge for all of the doctor appointments weâve needed to go to, walks, etc. most strollers couldnât do 2 bassinets, and youâre not supposed to leave infants in carseats. Major downfall is you canât go very quickly with it. It seems to struggle going faster than a 16 minute mile. We have a Thule urban glide for when theyâre a bit older. Tbd on how it performs:
We have a used bugaboo donkey that we found on fb marketplace (paid $450). I liked it because it had two bassinets which allowed them to safely sleep when we were out (averaged 4-6 medical appointments per week, so needed them to be able to sleep), and the seats can rotate front or back (I live in the desert, so being able to get them out of the direct sun is huge).
We used the Chicco keyfit 30s as well for car seats. For the first 6 months (they were born a month early, so 5 adjusted) we used the bugaboo donkey with two bassinets. This was really helpful in the beginning because our NICU said not to keep them in car seats for more than 90 minutes. They both have a lot of medical appointments (4-6 per week) and the double basinets provider a safe place to sleep at the medical appointments.
I love my bumbleride era, but for the newborn option you need to detach and reattach the seat (switching the directions) before you fold it up. Itâs not difficult but can be kind of annoying, and canât really be done while holding a baby. Iâm on my second kid using it in a nasty Montreal winter and itâs held up really well. It pushes really well through snow/slush/ice and is also really nice to push in the nicer weather. I donât think there is a way to make it a double stroller. The basket at the bottom is fairly big but probably not big enough for an entire shopping trip. If the bugaboo donkey is the one Iâm thinking of (where you can have either two seats or a seat and a bag for storage) it might be a better solution. But I think itâs also pretty wide which might make it harder to navigate. If youâre able to see them in store it might be easier to make your decision!
no, they just make really good stuff. we have the bugaboo donkey
