This is our set up too! Love both our bugaboo strollers. Fox 2 for park and neighborhood walks, and for the bassinet attachment when baby was newborn, was excellent during this very blizzardy winter. Butterfly for traveling, taking on airplanes (one-handed fold, fits in overhead bin!), cars, and subways. OP- I have the Fox 2, not the 5, so not sure if this applies still but the only difference I’ve noticed from afar is that the Vista under basket seems larger than on the Fox.
I do think a small, one-handed fold travel stroller is a must for the city. I’m a first time mom but from what I’ve seen around, people have all the popular options, and it seems like you can’t go wrong - Joolz Aer, yoyo, minu, nuna trvl, bugaboo butterfly. We have the butterfly because we wanted one that would fit in the overhead bin on a plane. Not all do. We tried to do without a travel stroller and just rock our big stroller (bugaboo fox) with the bassinet attachment, great wheels and suspension, big under basket but caved and got a travel stroller too. The big one is so comfortable for long walks but impossible for subway or to pack up in the trunk for drives. And it only works for us to have because we never unfold it - we have a space in our building that’s easy to store it so it’s not just out in our living room all the time. So I’d say get the travel stroller and whatever infant attachment/insert works with it but wait on a second stroller until you know how much space you’ll have.
It’s sturdy and spacious and comfortable - just gigantic! Great for if you have a place to park it in your home/hallway and for park days or neighborhood walks. But depending on your lifestyle you may also want to opt for a travel stroller with a one-handed fold that you can throw in the trunk of a car or airplane overhead bin or easily bring on transit or into a restaurant. We have both a bugaboo fox (big stroller with a bassinet attachment that has been great for getting out in the snow!) as well as a bugaboo butterfly that is our main stroller and sooo easy.
We have the Bugaboo Fox 2 and we used it for two kids over 7 years. Excellent stroller for this area. It’s a tank, and looks beautiful. It will roll over any sidewalk ruts safely. Does well on hikes (including PP trails) or on the beach. Great suspension, great comfort, holds a massive grocery haul, folds compact (for full size) and one-hand steering. Cons: it’s heavy! Pair with an ultralight. If you or anyone is looking to buy- we are selling, along with almost every possible bugaboo accessory from air travel case to winter muff to premium rain shield. Great condition- DM me. For ultralights, I have Bugaboo Butterfly and love it. Got the Butterfly and Joolz Aer to compare and returned Aer. The Aer is perfectly good too, it’s personal preference between them. The ultralights are really bad with the sidewalk. The tiny wheels are easy to catch in sidewalk ruts and flip forward.
Second bugaboo fox (fox2) for bush! Also live in the bush and have used it for both my babies in rough terrain and it’s been perfect. As flagged though, it is big so does take up a lot of boot space. But you’ll have no problem taking it out bush if that’s more of the priority. Edit: just saw you mention you have a prado, fox will be fine! I’ve got a much smaller SUV so it takes up a lot of space. It’ll be great in a prado I reckon.
Definitely get the travel pram! Only ever had one pram with my eldest so it’s doable, but now w my youngest who’s 9 months I’ve bought a bugaboo butterfly 2. We have a bugaboo fox as our main pram and it’s massive and I avoid using it because it’s a bit of an effort. And I do school drop off and it’s a walk holding the baby and my back is done! So I bought the damn travel pram, even though my husband was against it. We’re going on an interstate trip in the next school hols so I know it’ll get a workout then too and allow us to have more boot space for the portacot and suitcases. I’ve done a lot of research on travel prams and would recommend the bugaboo butterfly 2, unlikely to be on marketplace yet though, so try the first version.
I have the Fox 2 and totally second the height comment. I am 179cm and it drives me crazy how low baby is!! Especially when she was in the bassinet attachment. I also find it has very bad under storage because it is so low - I get sooo jealous when I see mums with the Vista or Juno which has great storage. I also *wish* it had an attachment like the Cybex which is a little basket for grocery shopping. Otherwise it is very sturdy and it seems super comfy for the baby. I notice how smooth it is when I have to use my travel pram and baby is jolting all over the place. I also appreciate how it is easy to get on and off the train with the big wheels.
I have a bugaboo fox 2, I got it new in 2021 for my first baby and now using it with my second. I really highly rate it. It’s so great to push imo better than an uppababy. The basket is smaller than the uppababy though. I love how the seat and bassinet share a frame so the storage of the one you aren’t using doesn’t take up too much space. I bought it new, but you can get great prams that are in fantastic condition second hand!
Go on marketplace and get yourself a second hand bugaboo fox or similar. Mine is from 2021, and I’ve got about a year still to use it before I’m done, if I were to sell it I’d be selling for around $250-300 and it’s in great condition, a few scratches on the frame from wear and tear but everything else basically perfect.
I’d go and try them in person at a shop or expo, and push them with a weight in. I personally have a bugaboo fox and love it. But it’s not lightweight or a one hand fold. A friend has the dragonfly and loves it for a smaller pram but still not a travel style
I love both my fox and my butterfly, different uses. Quick out and about, don’t need to lug around heaps of stuff, staying on pavement? The butterfly every time. Anything else, long day, lots of stuff, gravel or off roading, then I need the fox.
Take the parcel shelf out, that’s what I needed to do with my Holden Cruze. When bubs was really small I put the bassinet in the back seat but once he was bigger the seat part fit in the boot fine. I have a bugaboo fox
Another bugaboo vote. We got the fox 2 (the fox 3 had just come out when we brought it, so we got it for a bit cheaper and figured the ‘new’ features on fox 3 weren’t worth paying extra for at the time). We live in SW London so it has been used for city/central London outings in addition to a river towpath and Richmond park walks. Have genuinely found it easy and light to manoeuvre on all surfaces and it was amazing for our first with very heavy use. We’ve just lit the bassinet back in for baby 2 and attached a buggy board for the toddler, and it looks set to solidly last another 3 years. An additional note- some of these travel system prams are expensive. There’s no denying it. But in my opinion the cost has been worth it given the near daily use.
Have loved my bugaboo fox. It’s now on baby 2 and has been fantastic, especially on rougher surfaces. No regrets. As others have said a second travel pram that can fit in the airplane cabin overhead bins is also really useful. I like the Jools Aer+ as it also has the lie flat function.
