I have 2 +1 umbrella. 1. chicco miinimo , from vinted 30€ (our baby chair is only compatible with this model), 2. a 40€ stroller that I truly like from Jané umbrella: it was offered as it was going to the trash, and I am rehabing it with stuff that I have around.
We have a couple stroller/wagons now... a Vista V3, a jogging stroller, a compact one made by Chicco, a Pivot Explore... We use the Pivot Explore the most now that we have 2 kids and the youngest is 1... it is great for off-road. When it gets tough, it is better in wagon mode since you're pulling up instead of pushing down. I have friends with the Cruz, and it is pretty similar to the Vista, which is pretty good on dirt and grass. The larger the wheels, the better it will be, so the jogging stroller is the best for rough terrain, but the wagon wins in soft stuff like sand. The Vista is pretty darn good though, and has more options vs the jogging stroller. The Chicco we have has small wheels and hasn't been used in months.
When we had our first kid we went with a Chicco travel system and it did the job without costing anywhere close to a grand.
Bassinet- I don’t have any great suggestions except it doesn’t need to fancy. We got one in like new condition from Marketplace for $100. You can also use a pack and play as a bassinet. For our crib, we went with a budget option (DaVinci) and have been happy with it. He’s using it for a bed now. Car seats- I prefer to have both an infant and a convertible seat. Some people skip the infant seat. Our convertible seat is an Evenflo Revolve and we LOVE it. If you keep an eye out on sites like Rebelstork and Good Buy Gear, you can get a good deal. This was our one splurge item and we have no regrets. For an infant seat, we got a great deal on a travel system when Buy Buy Baby went out of business. What I do recommend here is to consider your travel system. I regret buying one that was only for 1 baby because now that I’m pregnant again we had to get a new stroller. My best friend had an Evenflo travel system that she loved! Mine was Chicco. The seat and stroller are both good- it just doesn’t convert to two. If you want a fancy brand stroller, Marketplace is your friend. Just make sure to buy all car seats new. Nursery dresser- We bought the IKEA Hemnes furniture for our nursery and are using the same line again for nursery #2. The 8 drawer dresser is great if your room is big enough. Detergent- I use free and clear, brand doesn’t matter so much for me. We’ve been happy with each product we’ve used. Diaper brands- This is SO SO SO baby dependent. I use Up&Up because they’re a good balance of cheap and work well for my son. My best friend’s baby wears exclusively Pampers because he blows out everything else. It depends on what best fits your baby and what works for their skin. Same with wipes. Opt for fragrance-free but even then, it varies. Diaper rash cream- I am ride or die purple Desitin. Nothing else ever worked as well for us. Also, you don’t necessarily need to use diaper cream every day unless that’s what your baby needs. Baby soap- Pipette is good. We use Aveeno though simply because it’s what we were gifted the most of.
We love our Chicco travel system that I bought as individual pieces. I think people who buy budget brands are less likely to flex on social media. I used big sales to grab ours and splurged on a nice but affordable jogging stroller for when bub is bigger. All together I still spent way less than I would have on a single “designer” stroller. People may be buying second hand, receiving those as gifts, or simply prioritizing those purchases as splurges over others.
For what it’s worth, I’ve had both a Chicco travel system and an Uppababy Vista, and I preferred the Chicco. The Vista was smooth but really big, sometimes to the point of being awkward to maneuver. I also preferred the Chicco’s folding mechanism.
With my first child (he’s 6) I got a Chicco travel system, including stroller. It was fine, it did the job. I used it a TON- I walked malls, Disney, neighborhood- you name it. When I had my 2nd child the Chicco was worn out and dirty and my older child still liked to ride occasionally so I wanted a stroller that could hold 1-2 depending on the situation and ended up with a City Select 2. It was like $600-700 which is still not the most expensive, but it was a huge difference in quality from Chicco. It pushes so much smoother and has a lot of seat options depending on what my kids want. My kids are now 2 and 6 and still both ride in it regularly, so I feel like I’ve gotten my moneys worth out of it, but if you don’t plan to use a stroller a lot I’d just get the lower priced one and call it a day.
We didn't think we'd need a travel system since we don't travel a TON, but our stroller for walks and the zoo and things is the Bob Alterrain Pro. We have a Chicco system that we use for airport and malls, and the suspension and steering is just SO much better on the Bob. The Chicco is perfectly adequate for walking indoors though
We have a chicco travel system stroller and a 4 seater wonderfold we got off Facebook, only have 1 baby
People are whack. Haters gonna hate. And if they're hating on the Chicco travel system, they haven't priced baby gear in a while. People are out here dropping $500 on the car seats alone or $1000+ on name brand strollers. Chicco is totally reasonable mid range brand that is consistently rated high for safety. I would not accept any shit talking about that. They will also hold up better than the super cheap options and at the end of the day, you're paying a little more for better quality stuff. My hand-me me down chicco travel system got passed along to another friend and currently being used by it's 6th baby that I know of. (New car seats for non siblings, but the stroller keeps getting passed along through our friend group). Our baby bjorn bouncer was the single most used baby item. My kid LOVED it from like 4 weeks-9 months. Could we have used a $25 walmart one. Yes. But we tried that at my brother's house and it wasn't the same. It was harder to bounce, wasn't as comfy and he just didn't like it. For your actual registry, you can totally hide items or do a separate bougie things registry. But I didn't gaf. I had a good mix of stuff on there at all price points. So if you didn't want to buy me the $200 bouncer, then you could buy me a $10 pack of milk bags or some bottle cleaners. We had close family friends and grandparents contribute or buy us bigger items in the $200+ range, so I'd personally leave them on there.
