r/nycparentsWill I Regret Not Getting a Bigger Stroller?

I went with a gb pocket all city. It’s 2yrs old now and we’ve flown several times with it in the cabin, and I consider it our daily driver. I’m happy with it. The hammock was a little slouchy when my son was like 6-9 months, but not so much an issue once he got taller. I like that i can one hand push it, too.

I couldn’t do it. Not unless my husband was able to help me bring it down, which he can’t practically do every single time. So I did a lot of baby wearing until he was old enough to sit in a travel stroller (I went with gb pockit all city). With the all city, i could roll it down the steps and I could roll it back up, no problem. My stroller is 13lb. Theres several brands that do that weight, you could also check out the uppababy minu or the yoyo.

Just came back from a 2-week trip with a toddler to Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. Firstly, I'll say to throw any strict schedule out the window (except for things you really need to book ahead of time). This helped to manage our expectations of travelling with a child and we only planned ahead by having a list of things/attractions and their locations. We would pick things to do 1-2 days ahead of time, considering their proximity to each other and the weather (it was a bit rainy at the start of our trip). Another tip is to be wary of peak hour times, especially Tokyo and if you happen to be moving around with your luggage. We made sure not to travel during that time because it can get unbelievably packed. We also exclusively used disabled/stroller carriages (there are signs on the platform for them) when catching the train. This also means always looking for the elevator sign immediately when you hop off too. Some may be harder to find than others and you can't always use the same exit that Google Maps recommends. My kid hated being back carried so we used the [GB Pock It + All-City stroller](https://gb-online.com/en-us/strollers/pockit-all-city) everywhere and loved it (we also use it at home too). It was a bit pricey for us but well worth it. It folds so easily and compactly, so it's also great for the plane too. Once I became really familiar with it, with practice, I could unfold it while walking - it flips out fairly easily. Our kid could also nap in it since he still needs them during the day (it can recline pretty far back to make it comfortable). I would also highly recommend having a [travel bag](https://gb-online.com/en-us/strollers/pockit-all-city/accessories/26) for it (which we brought everywhere with us). It helped at Fushimi Inari Taisha (has a small hike), so we used our carrier for our kid and carried the stroller in the bag (though do consider your own strength and fitness to do so). The bag can also be used if you think you should fold it up for a packed train/bus ride.

How big is your kid for their age? By 5 months both of my kids went to big kid strollers. Neither fit into a. Infant seat by that age. Can they sit unsupported? If yes then they can definitely use a non adaptable stroller. Do you travel often? Of by car frequently? If so, id get a ultra compact that comes on the plane as a carry on. I used the GB all city pockit. It make it though 2 kids. It comes on the plane with you and never gets lost or broken. It fits in the car under beneath the carseat. It's great in malls and stores. It also folds flat enough to nap. Also get a canopy extender from Amazon.

We have a gb pockit all city. Just took it to Disney, did Scotland and Paris with it last year, and Italy before that. I literally just ran across the Atlanta airport with it strapped on today. It was lighter than my toddler 😂

r/NewParentsNew parent question: Are stroller over $500 really worth it? Is a more expensive stroller always better?

I bought an uppababy ridge new for half price. It’s so comfortable to push and easy to fold. Everything was well designed and it feels sturdy. But I was gifted literally every other big ticket item so it was the only splurge. I use that for long walks around the neighborhood or in our parks. However, for around $200, I highly recommend the GB pockit all city stroller if you’re going with a compatible infant seat. That thing is my every day, ride or die. So smooth and I never have to carry the infant seat anywhere. I use it for shopping, appointments, anything where a big stroller is impractical. It’s so smooth and well made and folds up so small it fits behind my seat in the car/in the foot spot under baby’s seat. Ultimately it just depends if you can comfortably afford to splurge. Even if you can though, I definitely recommend shopping second hand or resale. Take the money you save and treat yourself or something.

r/BabyBumpsHow many strollers did you end up with? Is it possible to get by with just one?

Over time I have had 4, though really only used two at a time, 1 - Doona; used 80% of the time until 13 months when he sized out 2 - second hand Bugaboo runner for skating/jogging starting at 6 weeks (not recommended by the manufacturer, but was fine for us on smooth paths) and I still use it occasionally for that purpose now even though he’s 6 and way too big for it but it’s still truckin! I’ve used it at theme parks up until this year but otherwise it rarely goes out of the neighborhood 3 - Bugaboo chameleon, I had no plan to get this but I wanted the $50 snack cup for the runner and I found it packaged with an entire chameleon setup with tons of accessories for $50, so I held onto this stroller for awhile. It was a beautiful and smooth stroller but I didn’t really need a full size additional to the jogger and my son was already aged out of the bassinet. I think I used it twice before reselling it (keeping that snack cup) 4 - GB Pockit AllCity, this basically replaced the Doona and then used it until age 5 as my main stroller and of course as a travel stroller.

r/NewParentsWho else has 2 or more strollers and one kid? Are my stroller choices justified?

We only have two— the Mockingbird (basically uppababy's cheaper twin), and a compact travel stroller (gb pockitt+ all-city). The Mockingbird comes with us on neighborhood walks or long days at Disney, the travel stroller goes everywhere else (and I mean everywhere—we've trekked across Europe with it, trips to Target, shorter evenings at Disney, etc.). We're expecting our second in January, and I plan on getting a second compact travel stroller (either a baby zen yoyo or another gb pockitt+) for trips, but using the second seat kit for the Mockingbird for everything else.

As a mom to a 3.5 year old now, the car-seat-stroller stage doesn't last as long as you think it's going to. :') We never got an "umbrella" stroller, but we did get a gb pockitt+ all city, which is our travel stroller and a helluva lot easier to use for quick trips out of the house. The Mockingbird is definitely more comfortable for longer trips (long days at Disney, walks around the neighborhood) but we use the GB for quick shopping trips and travel because it's carry-on sized and super lightweight. I think that's why most people recommend a travel or umbrella stroller, for when it's inconvenient to still carry the large stroller around. Also worth noting, we didn't really start using our travel stroller until little one was starting to be uncomfortable in the carseat for longer periods. She had to be 6 months old to even start using the travel stroller.

We're locals and passholders, and even when we bring our compact gb pockitt+ all-city travel stroller we still leave it in stroller parking areas for rides and don't bother trying to bring it with us. The only time we've collapsed it is when we've gone into a sit-down restaurant for an hour or two and want to bring it with us and stash under the table. Half the joy of having a stroller with you is having a place to keep your stuff and not have to carry it! :) It's super safe to leave your stroller in parking, does not feel chaotic to me.

I got the GB Pocket+ All City second hand for under $200 and it was great for a trip with our 11 month old. Very compact, fits in overhead compartment. Otherwise basic stroller. She napped in it so must have been comfy enough.
