I just got the joie hazel and rue and really love it. I see a lot of similarities between the joie stroller and Nina stroller.
I’m 5’9” and husband 6’6”, we have a Joie Hazel. Handlebar is height adjustable and it’s been very comfortable for both of us to push
Can you use the Doona as a car seat for airplanes? You'd have to buy an extra seat, but it is safer than having an infant sitting in your lap. (There's a recent NYT article from March on this.) This doesn't mean you won't need a travel stroller, but it gives you time to use at least one stroller to know what you like and don't like before purchasing one. You didn't list your budget? If you really do want a travel stroller, the Nuna Trvl Lx stroller can be a travel system with its infant car seat. The stroller also has a cocoon mode that's you can use from birth without the car seat or extra bassinet (although check with your pediatrician since the recline looks a bit high). Nuna is certified greenguard gold. A con though is that their seatback heights tend to be a few inches shorter than other strollers, so if you have a taller baby, then they will outgrow their Nuna stroller. Uppababy Minu V3 is similar but I think their seatback height is higher and they have car seat adapters compatible with other brands if you don't want to use their infant car seat. Both Uppababy and Nuna car seats can be used on airplanes. You can purchase a stroller travel bag for Minu and register it before flying so if you can't stash it in the cabin overhead, then damages from gate checking it will be covered. If the Minu V3 was available when I was looking, that probably would have been my top choice. Unfortunately it wasn't and there weren't many NB compatible travel strollers at the time. I ended up getting a Joolz Aer+ with their bassinet attachment. Someone mentioned Joie and I own the Joie Hazel myself for daily walks. I just got off a call with them for troubleshooting something else and confirmed that they do add flame retardants to all of their products. It is in compliance with CA Prop 65, but that just could mean another flame retardant that hasn't been tested/banned yet.
We went with the Joie Hazel, and have found it great on rides. It's 25 lbs with the bassinet/seat, probably a little more when the car seat is attached. It's an easy fold though does need two hands. And it was a lot more affordable than most others at around $400-450.
Joie Hazel! I love it. It has the aesthetics of the Mockingbird but a better pram option already included imo. And the wheels are great! They are similar to the big tires on a jogger stroller, not as clunky though. But they are made to be durable and handle like all-terrain kind of situation.
I have the Joie mint latch car seat and the Hazel stroller! We love them both! I loved the wheels on jogger strollers so I went with the Hazel because the tires are a bit beefier for outdoor stuff (we are outside a lot and it’s a smooth ride for baby) And the mint latch car seat is a god send. It clicks in quickly—no seatbelt or base needed. Super easy to use!
I just went on a trail walk today with it. Like a half paved/half dirt/bumpy trail. It was great! The one thing I’ll mention is that it is slightly wider due to the larger tires. Not excessively so, but figured I’d mention in case that matters to someone. I have zero issues with it and only noticed it when I couldn’t take it up a narrow escalator lol.
I have the Joie Hazel which converts the seat into a bassinet!!! I love it! No extra bassinet purchase was a game changer. And I have the mint latch car seat so that clicks in as well.
Our neighbor's kept raving about their Nuna, so I went and looked in person, and wasn't impressed for the price. Next, I went to Target and also didn't love anything, which is when I really got into researching. I decided I wanted a baseless car seat, which really helped narrow down our options. I liked the look of Nuna and discovered Joie is made by the same parent company, which is when I fell in love with the brand, but was reluctant to buy something I hadn't seen in person. I was luckily able to find their nutmeg stroller in target about a month later, which I liked the look/feel of, but was a little more compact than we wanted. From there, it was a decision between their hazel or ginger. We went with the hazel and mint travel system for the bigger wheels, which we thought would be better for the terrain where we walk our dog each day. I'd recommend deciding what features are most important to you and using it to narrow down your search from there. I was so overwhelmed until deciding to go with baseless.
My Joie travel system has served me well! I’m almost exclusively solo in public and the mint latch + hazel combo has been super great.
Big fan of my Joie Mint + Hazel combo. I wouldn’t change anything about it. I’m so impressed I’m planning to stay brand loyal for the toddlers carseat lol
