Buy buy baby was still in business when I was pregnant so I got to try folding, pushing, and lifting a lot of different strollers (well, what was available). We went with the Uppababy Cruz v2 as it has pretty much all of the features of the vista but was lighter and slightly smaller. I love that thing. The infant snug seat insert saved us as my baby hated the car seat. 2.5years later, we now also have a bugaboo butterfly (great travel stroller), britax jogging stroller (bought for $15 at a kid’s sale), and a larktale caravan coupe wagon. Not to mention one of those little push cars and a trike. There’s no right answer. Try to find some to try out and see what you like
It really comes down to your lifestyle. We have the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2. It’s a workhorse of a stroller with an easy one-hand fold, great push, and all-terrain tires. We live in a large city and walk most places. Some of our sidewalks are in rough condition, and we’re always pushing the stroller over the grass in the park. We also have a Bugaboo Butterfly for travel and a Larktale Coupe wagon for when friends come to visit or we’re going for a big shopping run.
We love it for the zoo (our zoo is extremely spread out and if we relied on toddler’s legs alone, we would maybe see two animals lol) and amusement parks! And for walks to the park/coffee shop. We have only used the actual stroller less than 5 times over the past year since we got our wagon. We got the Larktale Caravan Coupe V2.
We have the Caravan Coupe V2 and freaking love it. I’m convinced it is the perfect wagon
I have a Larktale Caravan Quad for my three kids and love it. I also have big kids; my 2yo is over 40 lbs and 39 inches. My almost-4yo still fits comfortably in the Caravan Quad and has room to lay back with the canopy up and have a nap on a busy day. I use the wagon to do small grocery runs with the kids and have enough space. When I fold it, I can tip it onto its big wheels and pull it behind me like a suitcase. Downside is that the stroller wagon weighs like 50+ lbs on its own lol
To be fair, “travel stroller” is kind of a misconception as well, as it really depends on what you expect out of a compact stroller. The stroller that fits in the overhead bin is really only going to handle indoors and paved terrain, whereas a compact city stroller will deal with a bit more. I live rural; we have gravel streets and no sidewalks in our village, and my parents are on a farm with pasture trails. I have a compact city stroller that we would use for travel, and I also had a Phil & Ted’s Sport with second seat and a Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double. I sold the doubles in favour of a Larktale Caravan Quad. I only buy main strollers that will cope with going for a walk at my parents place and get me to and from the local playground by the mailboxes. I also realized by the time my second kiddo was 6 months old that our terrain capable double stroller was not a great travel stroller (we needed to travel with two playpens and struggled to fit the stroller in the vehicle at the same time, and it folded in too many pieces to be easy to deal with at the airport) and we needed something for road trips to the city. If you’re actually going to run with a stroller, you should get a stroller specifically engineered to do that. You will have a way better running experience if you’re not fighting your stroller the whole time. Also accept that the running stroller will not fit well in the vehicle and will not be ideal for travel.
I have three giant kiddos. My almost-4yo is 45 lbs and wearing girls size medium, my almost-3yo is 45 lbs and wearing girls size XS and some 5T, and my 1yo is over 30 lbs and going into 3T. My oldest was just starting to find the seat of our BabyJogger City Mini GT Double to be too small; the canopy was touching her head sometimes. I sold our Phil & Ted’s Sport with second seat because my second kiddo had maxed it out for weight capacity already so I couldn’t use it as a double stroller. I upgraded to a Larktale Caravan Quad and LOVE it. My oldest still has room to grow, the seats recline for naps, and everyone has enough leg room.
I love our larktale too! Actual sun shades, high sides, easy to move around! Great for napping as well!
Another option is a wagon! The one I have has an adaptor for the car seat and it’s been great! There’s plenty of space in it and it’s not any longer than most front to back double strollers! And more longevity.
Depends on how old your first is. I have a joovy sit and stand that’s good if your oldest will be 2.5-3+ when baby is born. Younger, I’d get a full double. Or, just be a cool mom and get a wagon. Wagons are the same size (usually) as a double stroller front to back but way more useable space. I have a larktale caravan for my two and it’s amazing. It even has a car seat adaptor for newborn days.
Yep! The larktale is a push wagon not a pull! It has burly tires so it pushes well! A jogging stroller will be the most comfortable to push long miles, though, since it has a shorter wheel base being a side by side. But the wagon is more generally useful
I have a larktale caravan and it has an adaptor for the nuna pipa! LOVE it so much. Almost as much Space of a wonderfold but half the weight! Less bulky and folds down smaller.
Wagon! The only downside is new baby can’t ride in it for a while. I think our son wasn’t big enough until he was at least 6months old. We had a baby stroller we used for him during that time. No regrets on getting the wagon. We use it all the time. Our kids are 5 and 2.5 now. We purposefully got a wagon that could accommodate bigger kids.
We have the Larktale caravan. It’s one of the bigger wagons I’ve seen. It doesn’t stop us from bringing it places though. We live in a very walkable area. The wagon is no bigger than a shopping cart, so we often bring it to the grocery store with the kids inside. If we take it to a restaurant, we fold it once the kids are out.
I have the first model larktale caravan and LOVE IT. It’s got taller sides than some of the small ones, but it’s not as bulky or heavy as the wonderfold. I wanted one with tall sides for napping and a footwell to help prevent some kicking of siblings lol it’s not one i see talked about online but i see other families out and about with it.
