the mockingbird is solid honestly. got one for my nephew and my sister loves it - way better build quality than the evenflo stuff. the seat positioning is actually decent and adjustable so your kiddo wont be doing the slow slide of doom anymore only thing is it can be a bit heavy if youre constantly lifting it in and out of cars but the wheels roll smooth on pretty much any surface. target usually has them on sale too so you might catch a break on price
From my research, Joie Ginger LX travel system may work for you. It has a pramette. It’s not airport friendly - I think a true travel stroller would have to be different than your everyday stroller. At least that’s what I plan on doing. I ended up buying the Mockingbird single 2.0 stroller with bassinet add on. Their strollers are 20% off right now but don’t include car seats so would be added cost.
I decided on mockingbird + bassinet. Ginger LX was actually my backup but saw they’re not flame retardant free so that helped me decide. I needed something to help me choose between Mockingbird and Joie. It was tough. The Ginger LX is coming out with a deluxe model with all terrain tires soon if that’s the one you want! I also considered Hazel but didn’t love the layflat newborn option. I preferred bassinet or pram option.
This is so good to hear! I just bought the mockingbird + bassinet. I also tried the Uppababy Cruz/Vista and it was so similar to the Mockingbird and seemed just as bulky. So figured I’d save the extra money.
I find it’s really hard to find strollers to actually try in person. I have a Mockingbird single for home use and a Zoe Tour for travel. Love them both. I used The Stroller Mom on YouTube. She does very in depth reviews of almost every stroller and even has some spread sheets to show pros and cons. It was so helpful for picking one!! I don’t think you can really go wrong with the ones you’re looking at! It gets very overwhelming though haha
There’s definitely an overwhelming amount of options… You can definitely do a combo one that’s the car seat and stroller like the Doona. I think this is best for people who live in big cities or travel a lot. I personally don’t think they’re worth it.. you gotta buy a new car seat and stroller when they get bigger. You could get a bigger, travel system which is a good deal. Something like an UPPABaby vista or a mockingbird for a more budget friendly option with a car seat adapter is very nice. These also usually have options for a bassinet or an infant insert so you don’t always have to use the car seat! They’re very nice strollers with lots of storage, high weight limits, lots of accessories and can really last you a long time. The downside is they are pricey and often very heavy/take up a lot of trunk space! Another option is a travel stroller. Many people use these for every day!! There’s many options these days.. some top ones are the Zoe line, Buggaboo Butterfly, UPPAbaby Minu.. there’s many more. These sometimes can be used with a car seat, are often under 20 pounds, fold compactly, are great for toddlers, great for travel, more budget friendly! Downsides are often not best for infants unless it’s one with a car seat adapter, have less storage and not as many bells and whistles. So.. I chose 2. I went with the Mockingbird which is so nice and we love it. It’s great for babies with all the attachments. Worked with our Chico Key fit car seat and is a nice push! Adjustable handle bar was nice since my husband is a lot taller than me. But it’s really heavy for my small frame and took up my whole SUV trunk. So I also got the Zoe Tour. It’s also amazing!! It’s 13 pounds, folds flat, takes up a fraction of my trunk, great for travel and my toddler loves the snack tray and being able to sit fully upright. I keep that one in the trunk and the Mockingbird in the garage for walks. Lastly, check out The Stroller Mom on Instagram or YouTube! She does full videos comparing strollers and doing in-depth reviews of the most popular brands! That’s how I picked my two!! Good luck!
I have 2: a travel (ergobaby metro 3) and full size (mocking bird single). I bought the mockingbird second hand from fb marketplace and it’s amazing for walks in the neighborhood which I do almost every day. It’s heavy duty but turns and moves very easily. Also car seat adaptable if we want to haul it into the car and take it with us. The metrobaby 3 was a gift and has a newborn nest so can also be used from birth and is lightweight and folds very easily, so it lives in the car trunk.
The metro3 is also car seat adaptable for certain types of car seats but not all.
We have always used the full sized mockingbird at the park. No big deal. As she’s turned 1 and need less we’ve used the travel stroller a bit more
FWIW, we had the mockingbird single and felt it was pretty awful in managing uneven city sidewalks. I also found as my kid got bigger and heavier, it would tip forward when it hit larger bumps. We used it less and less bc of how it handled, and then when I realized the tipping was an issue, we just got rid of it. Air filled tires seem to manage cracks much better. I tried my friend’s vista and it was way smoother.
We had one and it never once went in our car bc it was too heavy and took up the entire trunk. The wheels suck for sidewalk cracks, but never used it on snow (chicago). Once my son hit around 25lbs I felt like it would tip forward really easily if I hit the smallest of sidewalk unevenness. I stopped using it bc of that. We got a joolz aer2 for second baby. Nuna family and works for that. Bassinet is extra so it adds up, but folds easily and lives in our car for errands. Our primary is now a jogger that just lives in our garage permanently versus used for car errands.
We have spent more than $600 on all our strollers but not on a single stroller. My honest opinion based on our OAD family: * Mockingbird single ($450, purchased new): Used daily in the newborn stage and almost daily until about age 1. Did not buy the bassinet attachment and did not regret it. Got the mockingbird instead of the more expensive Uppababy and loved our choice. Would purchase again new. Looking to sell it soon, but I expect it to be difficult since we only got the single stroller and not the single to double. * Uppababy Minu v1 ($200, purchased secondhand): Got this for travel because it folds down smaller than the Mockingbird and theoretically could be stowed in the overhead compartment of an airplane. We ended up spending $80 on the Uppababy travel bag and gate checking the stroller for our trip last year and will do the same for our upcoming trip. We use this nearly daily and mostly love it, but I wouldn’t have paid more than $200 for it even brand new. A good buy used, will probably sell it in the next year or so but don’t anticipate listing it for more than $100. * Thule jogging stroller ($500, purchased new): Rides like a dream. Husband loves this for jogging. We haven’t used it as much as the others and we definitely didn’t _need_ this stroller, but we’ve certainly used it plenty and can keep using it for a while longer. We’ll sell it when we’re done with it. We got lucky and purchased all of these items 3 2.5 - 3 years ago, so they might be more attractive on the resale market given the tariffs on comparable products. I’ve also kept the strollers remarkably clean; the only one that shows any signs of wear is the Uppababy and most of that is the color of the fabric (light grey). I’ve washed it a handful of times and it usually comes out very close to “good as new.” Worth noting that we will not be buying a wagon as our child gets older, so once we age out of the strollers we’re done. We have a backpack for the things we need to carry & our kid can walk if we go places; if they can’t walk the whole time it means we’re going for too long. It’s just what works for our family; lots of folks love their wagons to pieces.
We are OAD with a 2.5 year old. We have: * A mockingbird single stroller (not the single to double) that I used daily for LO’s first year of life. We haven’t used it in a long time so I’ll probably sell it soon. * An Uppababy minu that we purchased secondhand for a trip and have used almost daily for the last 1.5 years. * A Thule jogging stroller that my husband uses for, well, jogging. My husband has looked at wagons but we aren’t really wagon people (no shame if you are!). If we had more kids or needed to schlep more things than would fit in a backpack or our Minu maybe a wagon would be prudent, but right now it doesn’t seem necessary. I expect our LO will outgrow the Minu soon and at that point we’ll just have them walk everywhere.
I love it as a single but hated it as a double (we borrowed a second seat kid from a friend)
I think it’s really hit or miss tbh. For my firstborn we did a MomPush Wiz. It didn’t even hold up for the first year. It became extremely difficult to push and the frame was all loose and weird. This time we’ve done a Mockingbird as our single stroller and the difference is night and day. But also, we went with a more budget friendly for our side by side double. We got the Bombi twin and so far I’m happy with it. The push is very nice and it’s got a lot of features I love. But I don’t have a “high end” side by side double to compare it to so maybe I’d love it less if I had experience with a Bugaboo Donkey or something.
I have the Mockingbird stroller with bassinet that i have used since my now 3 year old was born. She’s currently in the 99th percentile for height and 97 for weight (41 pounds) and still comfortably fits in the stroller (even took a nap in it a couple weeks ago). It’s easy to push with her in it still and I love the different configurations. Highly recommend
