Nuna triv 1, fits easily in a Hyundai i30 and a Honda jazz, with 3 bags of groceries.
I'm in the US, so I can't recommend specific products, but my baby is sleeping on me, so I have time to answer questions: >How essential is rotation? It's not essential at all. >Do I need an infant car seat? No, you can get a convertible seat that's safe for just with a newborn. >And I supposed a stroller that one would attach it to? If you get an infant car seat, it makes sense to buy a stroller that it can click into. >Would this mean that even before 1yo, this infant car seat and stroller would need to be replaced already? The car seat would need to be replaced, but you could keep using the stroller with the seat it comes with instead of using it with the car seat. >I like the idea of a convertible car seat so it can grow with the baby. Are these any good? We've used a convertible seat since each baby was born, and they're great! >Or are these the all-in-one? Do these terms mean the same thing? I think all in ones typically go rear-facing > forward facing > booster, while most "convertible" seats are just rear-facing and forward facing. We went with a convertible seat that can not be turned into a booster because it seemed safer and more practical. >Can you give an example of a set and progression set for over the years? If I get something like the Nuna pipa rx+base+stroller, does it mean this set can be used from infant up to 2yo, and then I would have to find something else from 2yo upwards? It seems that the infant stage requires its own set and then a different set for toddler onwards? Infant car seats can only be used for about a year (depending on the size of the child). Convertible car seats can be used longer. My kids are still little, but I'm guessing they'll be able to use their convertible seats until they're 5 or 6 years old. At that point, they'll move to high-backed booster seats, followed by backless boosters. Strollers are separate. You should be able to use the same stroller as long as your child needs a stroller. Just the part they sit/lie down in changes. For that Nuna set, you would have to replace the car seat after about a year, but you could keep using the stroller after that. You can also buy the stroller without the car seat if you don't want to use an infant car seat. >What about bassinet-style strollers? What are those for? Bassinet-style strollers are good for long walks when there's a chance the baby will fall asleep. I would recommend getting the bassinet attachment for whichever stroller you choose. This is more important if you don't get an infant car seat, but even if you do, it's better for the baby to sleep in a bassinet than to sleep in a car seat.
I’m in the same boat!! I just went to look at some today. My brother is giving us their lightly used Graco car seat with a basic click in stroller for quick newborn outings, so I feel better splurging on a nicer stroller for long term as long as it will be versatile. We don’t have a garage or anywhere to store it in our house so I want something that folds very compact. I also want it to have parent facing and world facing options, which limits a lot of the smaller travel type strollers. I’m looking at the Nuna Triv, Nuna Swiv, and Joolz Hub 2 primarily. I was able to go look at the Nunas today along with the Maxi Cosi Tayla, Uppababy Cruz, and Cybex Balios/Melos. They had bugaboo there too but those are more than I’m wanting to spend and the Fox is bigger than I’m wanting anyway. The Nunas weight, folding mechanism, and folded size were FAR superior than any others and I am heavily leaning that direction. It was just so smooth and easy and compact on both of them. The Mixx was gigantic to me and the folded package was cumbersome to deal with. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find anywhere with Joolz Hub2, but it looks very similar to the Triv and reviews say it’s more durable. The Swiv was ever so slightly bigger than the Triv but felt a little sturdier and less like a travel stroller, and I don’t feel like the extra 1-2 lbs was that big of a deal compared to the trade off you get for more storage basket space and what feels like more durability. However the Triv has more suspension and better wheels for all terrain, so I’m torn on that. The only hesitation I have with Nuna is the way the lady at the store talked about them. She said she herself would never buy one because they aren’t made as well as others of the same price point and the warranty is crap (2 years but limited to things that probably wouldn’t break anyway). She was really pushing the Cybex models but they just didn’t have the same smooth and compact fold and I didn’t like the buckles and seat material as much as the Nunas (the magnetic buckle was awesome). The Joolz Hub2 has a 10 year warranty and it has a toddler ride on board you can attach later on which makes it more versatile than the Nunas in my eyes. Not looking to get a double but having a little bit of flexibility with another kid when making such an expensive purchase feels nice. I just wish I could get my hands on it to compare! I’m almost leaning Joolz just due to the warranty and supposed durability. There’s just not as much info out there about them from people who have bought them. I went to Nordstrom, a local baby store, and Pottery Barn kids, which could be an option where you live! I’m also looking into the bassinet options with the Nuna and Joolz and that’s getting me stuck (nuna is expensive and Joolz doesn’t have a stand to use at home) so I might just opt out of using these strollers with a tiny newborn and just baby wear/use the car seat click on stroller when needed. I think past 4-6 months old these will have a lot of longevity so trying to think long term and not get a bunch of accessories I don’t need. Sorry for the info dump but tried to be detailed since you can’t see them in person!
Travel strollers aren’t very useful for daily walks etc and have been known to tip over if not on the correct terrain. As a travel strollers get the bugaboo butterfly or Joolz aer+ If you want a lightweight all rounder the best would be the cybex balios or nuna triv
I have the Nuna Triv. I tried the Mixx and Demi at Nordstrom’s as well. They are HEAVY. Especially with the stroller seat attached. The Triv is a lot lighter but still has somewhat thicker tires. If you’re going to do a lot of trails though you’ll definitely want to go the route of Mixx or Demi. Mixx being lighter of the 2. Just the base itself without any bassinet/car seat/stroller is lighter of course - so the first chunk of months when you can’t use the stroller portion really (unless laying it all the way back so baby is lying down) - it’s easier to carry and get in and out of the car. But once you’re using the stroller attachment it is heavier by a decent amount. If you have a Nordstrom where you live - they have a lot of the big name car seats and stroller systems to try out. It was the only in-person store I could find with them 😅 Target did have one system I think on display. But we don’t have any baby stores near us anymore to try stuff. Definitely sucked when trying to find baby gear we liked. Same as you - don’t mind spending a bit more if it’ll last and work for multiple kids over the years. What I like about my Nuna Triv: convenient having the whole system. Baby loves the bassinet for walks. About to switch to the stroller piece as he’s sitting quite well now. But he still enjoys laying down. Good place for a nap in the go while you’re out or just a place for baby to spread out with toys while you’re shopping or getting food with friends, fairs, etc. Convenient being able to pop the car seat on it for a quick run into a store and not having to take baby out of it or carry a car seat around - I only do this if it’s quick though. Otherwise I use the bassinet or baby wear so they aren’t in the car seat for more than 2 hours at a time. Great for walks. Storage is decent enough. I don’t usually bring anything crazy. Bottom does work for small target runs lol And the quality and safety of the car seat means I can use it for future babies as well if it’s within expiration. And the rest of the system can definitely be used for future kids. It doesn’t switch into a 2 kids stroller though. So could be a downfall if that’s something you’d want in the future.
Is your lab a good walker? Mine is NOT. He’s reactive af. I love my Nuna triv stroller and Nuna Pipa car seat so much, but for walking my lab, hell no. I really don’t walk him and my children solo because he’s too hard to manage, but I’d get a jogging stroller if I did. I walked him and my 3yo recently and it was really hard to steer my triv one handed and the wheels would kind of catch trying to get it back on course. It’s not the best for uneven terrain
Really like the Nuna Triv. Good mix of lightweight for travel but comfort day-to-day. See so many posts of wives struggling to lift the bigger heavy strollers that have suspension etc
We have a nuna triv and plan on using it as our primary stroller. We also have a silver cross reef for big/long walks in our neighborhood & uppababy minu for travel. I think the triv is big enough for daily/regular use but it’s light enough that I can carry it & it doesn’t feel super heavy. We got it as an unexpected gift from a friend, so we already had the other two prior 💀 otherwise I think we could’ve been ok with just the triv! The only thing I dislike about it is that the baby feels like they’re kinda low to the ground. With the nuna mixx and silver cross the seat is a big higher but idk if that’s a deal breaker for everyone or just me lol.
We LOVE the Nuna mix, but it is kind of heavy to fold and carry. You can fold it and pull it on its back wheels, if you’re in an apartment vs loading into a car trunk. I wish we’d gotten the triv for lightness and an easier fold, but I’d compare the thickness of padding between the seats as maybe there is a difference between travel stroller and full size. From a glance, it didn’t seem like it to me! The thing about travel strollers you have to watch out for is that most come with a tiny back wheel, thin padding, and are shorter. The padding matters for baby’s comfort, and the wheel size and height really make a difference on your arms getting fatigued when you push, or going over curbs and bumps.
The all-terrain feature that your partner wants is diametrically opposed to your priorities, I don't think you will find a pram that does both unfortunately. I have a similar living arrangement to you (in a flat, pram folded in shared hallway) and the Nuna Triv has been great for us so far. Very lightweight, one handed folding, and folds to be very compact. The bassinet/carrycot attachment is also safe for sleep; our baby used it loads for naps and even overnight sleeping on trips away when she was a newborn. It's not all-terrain but we have given it some pretty rough handling (lots of cobblestone roads on a daily basis) and it's doing well so far. I would be confident taking it on walks that have a decent footpath.
