We went with the swiv and pippa rx. But will be also buying a bassinet. We do not plan on getting a different stroller. We decided not to go w the vista bc of how heavy and big it was, and space was our concern. But also, the ability to move to a double is nice but our mom friends said it wasn’t an ideal double based on what they need. We decided to optimize for this bebe. We are traveling when she is two months and it seems like a lot to bring everything to the airport (carseat and stroller). We thought, man a doona would have been nice for travel, but not enough to fret about it further.
I love my Mixx Next and the Pipa Aire, baby successfully went on a long shopping trip yesterday, in the stroller and enjoyed every minute of it. Fabrics are soft, the canopy goes down pretty far. We also have the ring adapter for the car seat and used the bassinet attachment when he was smaller. It’s the best baby purchase I’ve ever made outside of the Snoo. He had slept in some version of the stroller at least once a day for the first 6 weeks of his life. I like the big basket at the bottom and the suspension and wheels are top tier. I will get a travel stroller eventually but that will be a sacrifice in comfort, maneuverability, and storage compared to the Mixx next.
The TRVL is an awesome stroller and has the one handed fold thing going, its also pretty lightweight and has a bigger basket than most travel strollers.
So a couple things, are you in a place with an elevator or stairs? Nuna Mixx next is heavy, the urbn is nice, the trvl is okay but I don’t love that it doesn’t fully recline and doesn’t have the option to swap the seat for a bassinet. Are you planning on more kids? I have a Joolz Aer2 and I do prefer taking that on a bus/public transport way more than my Nuna Mixx next, not to say it’s not doable but each one has pros and cons.
I would strongly consider the Joie Nutmeg with Mint Latch travel system. Joie has the same parent company as Nuna so the Nutmeg is very comparable to the og Trvl but at a much more reasonable price for what is (imo) a decent but not $600-excellent compact stroller. The mint latch is one of my favorite infant seats- I LOVE the innovation of baseless infant seats with rigid latch. The mint is very easy to use, once you’ve done it a few times the install with rigid latch takes about the same amount of time as clicking any other car seat into its base. And you get the safety and ease aspect of rigid latch (which minimizes car seat movement in the event of a crash, compared to installations with a seatbelt or “regular”/flexible latch, which both stretch considerably under the forces of a moderate or severe crash). The Nuna Trvl lx/pipa Urbn travel system is also very nice and has the same benefits as the Joie- but as someone who has used both car seats for my own kids, the user experience is so similar that I’d go with the Joie for the price (unless you expect a preemie or small term newborn; the Pipa Urbn is an easier fit for 4-5lbs or so but that’s the only big-deal difference). I personally would skip the single to double stroller unless you just really like that stroller in single mode. My experience with single to doubles is that they are more difficult for two kids than a nice side by side double.
I strongly prefer the Bugaboo Butterfly with Nuna adapters over the Nuna Trvl! The butterfly is sturdier, taller, and overall better quality - the Trvl is basically a marked up Joie Nutmeg, which is $239 (Joie and Nuna have the same parent company) and it definitely feels like it’s worth that rather than the premium Nuna price. Anyway, besides that, you’ve got a great plan! I recommend collapsing the stroller in the gate area before boarding if you have enough hands to carry everything- a couple times when I’ve been flying without another adult and rolled the stroller all the way to the plane before folding it, gate agents and/or FAs have given me some suspicious looks when I promise them that it’ll fit onboard.
FTM 2w pp — I got the nuna pipa urban x2 + Demi next bundle and the nuna exec next. It’s pricey but I think it’s worth it. The bundle I got comes with 2 infant car seats that fit right into the travel stroller (single to double stroller as well) and the Demi seat can be used from birth to 50lbs. The travel size stroller is the biggest one they have, it’s one hand fold with bigger wheels and storage than most travel strollers, it also comes with a rider board too. The Demi seat can also recline back almost all the way which is why I decided not to get the bassinet attachment because I was debating on getting that as well. We have two cars as well and I know my family will want to take baby out as it gets warmer (also have a little niece on the way so our kids are gonna be like 2 months apart). Also, plan on ttc baby #2 around 18m pp when I get the okay from my OB. They have a bundle that comes with only one car seat as well. My lease on my car ends soon and once it does we were thinking of getting a bigger more permanent car which is when I’ll install the nuna exec next in there as it’s a convertible car seat that works from infant all the way to booster. I like both the seats because it’s baseless, so traveling with the infant car seat and the stroller has been super easy and convenient.
We’ve gate checked a Nuna TVRL at least 60 times in the last 3 years and have never had a single problem.
The Nuna Trvl is a travel stroller and probably the best one there is. Ours is built like a freaking tank. One handed folding/opening amazes everyone when they see it. We don’t use the travel case anymore when we gate check it. One month shy of 3 years with it too.
The trvl LX will be good for a four month old, and easily compatible with the pipa car seat, but I do think it’s too big and would have to be checked. I’m gonna follow this to see what anyone else suggests tbh 👀 we have the plain trvl and im not sure if its overhead approved but its not lay flat so it needs the car seat until 6 months.
Also due in April and have had the luxury of pushing a lot of strollers as a nanny! We went with the vista v3 as our workhorse stroller (will use every day for dog walks and occasionally put it in the car for big stroller days, like going to the fair or something like that), the Nuna travel stroller as our car/travel stroller, and the Nuna pipa for our infant seat (attaches to the travel without an adapter). Were covered for walks from infant (with the bassinet or the car seat) through and don’t have to lug the vista in the car every time. It truly is so life dependent though. I’ll be a SAHM so most of my life is at home with our dog. If you go on tons of walks and need something more durable, a big stroller might be worth the investment. I will say I did nanny for a family and our daily stroller was the silver cross jet, which is fantastic, but the wheels wore down much quicker than a big stroller and baby had to be 6 months before we could use it. There are tons of second hand V2 on MP, but there’s also tons of travel strollers on there too!
We have the trvl for keeping in the car and popping out with the baby and the vista for neighborhood walks. I love them both for their different functions! I will say, when I was a nanny and one of the families I was with for a long time had me keep their silver cross travel stroller with me for the baby. It was fine for walking outside but we had to replace the wheels way more frequently than their big stroller because they aren’t meant for too much outdoor walking.
Our nuna trvl lives in the car and the car seat pops in. It’ll be used like that until he’s done with the car seat and then he’ll be big enough to use the big seat, so the trvl will still be in the car. We also have the travel bag for that stroller so it’ll go with us and get gate checked. Got it for $200 pff fb marketplace!
