We really liked this stroller too! Our one concern is the fold seems tricky—did you get used to it? What do you think? I really liked the slim frame and the easy push it offered….
Peg perego Z4 used if you're looking for a solid built everyday stroller. It's on the heavier side for getting in and out of the car and wouldn't be ideal for jogging but it's incredibly sturdy through 2 kids. Also has attachments to make it into a double.
Joolz Aer all the way! I have that and the Peg Perego Agio Z4 which we had hoped to use as a double stroller, until baby 2 took 4 years to arrive. Both of the strollers are great, but if I had to choose only one I'd choose the Joolz every day of the week. Great little stroller, easy fold, so compact, so easy to toss into the trunk, I can even carry it and my kid at the same time if necessary for whatever reason. We bought it when we took an international trip so we could put it in the overhead, but it's the stroller we grab most at home these days too. Perfect for city life. Only caveat is that we didn't use the Joolz during the newborn phase. Up until about 6 months, we'd use the Peg Perego with the carseat and parent-facing options.
The bugaboo dragonfly with the Nuna car seat sounds perfect for you! We have the peg perego z4 which we really like too it’s less bulky than a lot of the popular strollers but may still be a little bigger than what you are looking for.
Some options that may work based on what you like - Peg Perego makes a stroller similar to the vista but it’s lighter and folds more compact. We have the Z4 which is about the price as the vista but the YPSI is the same structure (just different fabrics) and cheaper. We tested this and the vista and liked this one a lot better. You can get adapters for various car seats and the bassinet is really nice. - joie is a sister company to Nuna and is really good quality for the price, they have a few similar in size to the triv but I think the Kava is most similar. The joie car seats are compatible and good quality. I think there are adapters where you can use UB bassinet with it. Or the ginger has a built in bassinet. - a lot of people really like the mockingbird stroller which is set up similar to the vista and much cheaper and works with various car seats. - with the popularity of the vista, you can likely find that and the bassinet secondhand (get car seat new) - you don’t have to get the uppababy car seat (their car seats actually aren’t that great) you can get a cheaper car seat like a Chicco with adapters - check discount sites like rebel stork and goodbuy gear you often can get a good discount on a new but open box model
Peg perego Z4 or YPSI are both good options that have extendable handlebar but also if he still wants it longer they sell an extender to add another 6” to it
The peg Perego (ypsi or z4) in my experience is the lightest single to double option but it’s nowhere near as light as a true travel stroller. No issues gate checking it though, and it’s much lighter than vista or cybex ones. it is pricey so definitely get a protective bag. The bassinet on it is super nice and safe for overnight sleep. Depending how old your older one is, you may be able to add a rider board to your current stroller instead which would be lighter.
We have the Peg Perego Agio Z4 and love it. It has a safe sleep bassinet and converts easily to a double stroller.
You get used to it but it does require two hands.
We have the agio z4, it has car seats that click into the stroller in every configuration you can think of. And into the bases in the car. It also comes with seats so they can sit in stroller when they are older up to 50lbs, the mockingbird doesn’t do that. We like to do long trips at zoo or festival so I want the kids to be able to sit if needed until they are really old enough to walk a long time. I love how easy the base folds up, the car seats come with the extra load arm that goes to the floor, very safe. This is the only stroller that had everything we wanted. It’s expensive, my dad helped. But we will have this set for so many years and the resale on the base and seats is really high
Agio Z4 is what we bought. It goes up to 50lbs in both seats unlock the mockingbird that has one 50lb and one 35lb. We aren’t gonna tell one twin they have to walk while the other can ride. It’s pricy, but I can position the car seats or toddler seats any direction I want on the stroller base, pretty much every other stroller had front or back facing as the only options, this one they can face towards each other or away from each other or front or back. The car seats click in and out of the stroller base and in and out of the car bases. My husband has the car bases because we go on longer trips in his car, I just buckle the seats into my car. I also drive a tiny tiny Chevy spark hatchback and I’m able to fold up the stroller base to fit in the trunk or the front seat if I need the trunk. We’ve had to use other twin strollers on vacation and they never would fold up very small, they took up like most of the trunk of the SUV. I looked at the mockingbird, but for just a bit more money I got a bunch of more options for my twins that will last longer. The primo aggio seats that we ordered with it were great for the tiny newborn babies and they are still enjoying the seats and fit nicely in them, and will until 35lbs. Then I’ll move the toddler seats onto the stroller and we will switch over to a car seat that grows with them the rest of the way.
We’ve finished up with the baby phase for 3 kids .. to answer your specific questions: - travel system vs separate stuff? Travel system. Best middle-of-the-pack is Peg Perego. They hold their value well for resale and used ones are a good purchase. They’re also more compact than the American brands, sturdier than most, and not as pricey as the Euro-look stuff (Uppa, etc.) - not to buy — all the stuff that’s baby-purpose-specific .. baby blenders (use a normal blender), baby bottle warmers (use a pot with water) .. we bought a lot of it, used it a couple of times, and never touched it again in favour of the adult version. Also, muslin blankets, they’re not for our climate. - buy asap — baby Tylenol, reusable syringe, baby Advil, suppository Tylenol, baby thermometer, baby ear camera ($20 on Amazon), Penaten, baby shampoo .. the medical stuff occupies you for the first year as they go through colds and rashes (and more intense things like RSV and HFM) - helpful purchases - baby blankets/quilts appropriate for their size, those zip up baby pouch blanket things, Jolly Jumper, pack and play with an additional foam mattress. - try a few different teething toys once they get bigger .. WubbaNub was the one that stuck with all 3 of ours. People swear by Sophie the Giraffe. Etc.
Are you considering more than one kid? We initially had a hand me down peg perego system that we loved but it got damaged on a flight and we got reimbursed its original price. We chose the cybex over the uppababy as our replacement because both seats can hold up to 50lbs
Seconding that this is the best answer. It really depends on where you live (city vs suburbs). I live in a European capital city with great public transport and terrible driving conditions. We walk a lot everyday, so my expensive Peg Perego travel system has been incredibly useful and is able to stand up to whatever is thrown at it, whether it be hard cobblestones or bumpy countryside. The attachable bassinet was great when my baby was a newborn, and now the stroller is one of his favorite ways to spend a couple hours outside. Plus, we do need to drive sometimes, so the car seat has also been handy. But if I lived in the suburbs, I probably wouldn't have bought quite an expensive travel system, or I may have splurged on the car seat instead.
I had the evenflo travel system and didn’t like it, bought the peg Perego travel system and love it. But baby definitely travelled better in the evenflo and hates the upgrade.
