ALRIGHTY EVERYONE!!! I got the Nia in today and compared it side by side with my Joolz Aer2 (I have had the OG Aer and Aer+ in the past) and the Uppababy Minu V3. I only allow myself to keep 2 travel strollers at any one time and so I will be saying goodbye to the Minu V3! Hereās the lowdown⦠What Nia does the best: best seat liner, best looking, self-folding belly bar, highest handle height, straightest seat, biggest basket, easiest/best recline, easy to attach the car seat adapters Where Nia could improve: wheel quality, you need to recline seat a bit to fold, fold isnāt as tidy/compact, would be better with storage bag, would prefer a single handed leg rest adjustment, magnetic buckle is finicky and harness is hard to adjust, sun canopy is smaller than competitors and the peekaboo window is only on the extension panel you need to unzip, fabric feels great but I worry about longevity What Joolz Aer2 does the best: best push, best sun coverage, best fold (seriously cannot be beat), most comfortable shoulder strap, best wheel quality, best harness, most durable feeling fabric, comes with storage bag, best warranty (10 year transferable) What Joolz Aer2 could improve: the recline mechanism (especially when using for newborn/ with car seat), self-folding belly bar, tidiness of seat fabrics (just look a bit mangled), sturdiness of leg rest, size of basket, car seat adapters are difficult to put on and use since you need seat to be reclined, no peekaboo window What Minu V3 does best: best customer service, real leather handle covers, best brake system, best leg rest, best peekaboo window, adjustable crotch buckle What Minu V3 could improve: upright seat angle, fabric quality, front wheel design (they get stuck and click a lot), push, fold (I have had issues with the latching mechanism, donāt love the seat liner on the exterior, and the back wheels stain the seat back when folded), car seat adapters are difficult to put on, weight, colorways, awkward shoulder strap, would be better with storage bag Anything else I can compare for anyone?
I ordered the Nia so I will report back since I also have the Aer2 and the minu v3
Look into some of the more capable and newborn friendly travel strollers like the Joolz Aer 2, Silver Cross Nia, and Uppababy Minu. I have a Silver Cross Nia, and a V1 Uppababy Cruz (21.5lbs) which is similar in stats to the Kona as a true midsize. I honestly like the Silver Cross Nia much much better than the Uppababy. It pushes better, is more maneuverable, and folds smaller. The only thing the V1 Uppababy Cruz has going for it is an adjustable handlebar.
The handlebar is taller than I would prefer (Iām 5ā1ā) but that would be true of the other two strollers as well.
The basket on our silver cross Nia is actually bigger than the basket on our guava roam, and the weight limit is also higher (22lbs on the Nia, 10lbs on the Roam). For driving to a grocery store, I load baby directly into the cart. For walking to a grocery store, I take a stroller.
We just got it so only pushed it around a couple times. I only have an Uppababy Cruz v1 and the roam to compare it to. The Roam will definitely remain our daily driver. Itās just a smoother push, I like the adjustable handlebar, and all in all itās just much more capable. The Nia honestly pushes better than our V1 Cruz , and is lighter, more compact, and easier to fold to boot. Weāll primarily be using it for car errands and traveling, and will be selling the Cruz (I really hate it). We live in a medium-large ish city with decent public transit so we do lots of errands using transit/walking from our front door, and weāll still be primarily using the roam for that.
i would recommend the nia 100% as it has taller seat back and a more upright position for baby than the yoyo. nia also has a lie flat recline so better for napping and is a great alternative if you donāt have an accessible flat surface to change baby on. i also like the one hand fold on the nia! much less finicky than the yoyo.
as itās primarily advertised as a travel / compact stroller the wheels are going to be smaller than a typical sized stroller. the nia however has a great feature of being able to lock the front wheels, which not many compact strollers have. it helps to navigate tougher surfaces with more control. iāve not used it with gravel but with wet muddy grass and sand itās held up quite well for us, the locking wheels really are an underrated feature and makes a surprisingly big difference in comfort and exertion when pushing through challenging terrain.
Got a Silver Cross Nia! Itās a travel stroller that supposedly fits in the overhead bin (we havenāt travelled with it yet). But what we love about it is the seat can be switched with a bassinet attachment that also folds into the stroller! Thereās also an adapter that allows you to connect a Nuna, Maxi Cosi and Cybex car seat as well. It also feels more sturdy than other travel strollers weāve tried. It already comes with the bumper and rain cover. Iām petite so we only considered travel strollers as our main stroller due to the ease of fold and weight.
We bought the mamas and papas strada bundle as my goal was for an all singing dancing package but HAD to be lightweight. My child is now 16 months and I think it was a good purchase. Being able to use a carry cot initially, then a seat and also use the car seat on our frame with adaptors literally covered us for whatever journey we were taking. Babyās first outdoor walk? Nice and snug in carry cot. Babyās first city appointment? Stick that car seat on the frame as he was always asleep the first few weeks and didnāt want to disturb him. Also helped he would ALWAYS fall asleep in the car so used to bring him inside the house in the car seat and extend it flat (ours was a Cybex cloud T) to let him snooze a lil more. However we always kept those times under the recommended 2 hours. The pushchair itself is about 11kg. So one of the lighter options compared to the ābig systemsā however the basket underneath is just so small and weirdly shaped itās ridiculous. I would encourage you to perhaps look at different options. If I would do it again I would tell people to buy a pushchair system that is also travel approved. I ended up having to buy a second pushchair just to take it on the cabin with me on holiday. E.g the new silver cross Nia is cabin approved for both seat and carry cot. And weighs only 7.5kg for the pushchair. You wouldnāt need to buy another travel compliant pushchair if you bought this from the get go. Itāll be light and folds up nicely, even with the carry cot! There was no way I was ever taking my strada carry cot with me in the car lol. However Iām sure Joolz and other travel pushchairs are now doing something similar with being adaptable to carry cots and car seats so have a look Iām not sure.
I know you say you could make it work with that big stroller but⦠no. When real life happens, youāre not gonna wanna go up and down all those stairs twice. Youāll barely have the energy to do it once. Especially taking public transport and plans to travel, would say go for the joolz aer2 or the silver cross nia if you want the bassinet option. If a bassinet is optional, Silver cross clic also works with both nuna and joie car seats without adapters and has a newborn recline. Out of the options you mentioned, Iād go nutmeg over the Ginger DLX. But for your situation 100% donāt go for a heavyweight stroller.
