I bought the silver cross reef 2â best stroller ever
I am also so overwhelmed with picking a stroller. Iâve decided on a baseless car seat but because itâll only be used for the first year alone, I canât justify spending on a Nuna car seat. I think Iâm set on the Clek Liingo baseless. Finding a compatible stroller I like is the issue. I like the Silver Cross Reef 2, because I can see myself using it long term and if we have a second baby, but ChatGPT doesnât seem to like it lol. Iâm not sure what other options to consider. There is the Joie Mint Latch paired with the Joie Ginger LX that I almost was sure I was going to get, but the fact they use flame retardants on their car seat has me second guessing.
I have the Reef 2 and my little boy has just turned 6 months so have just started using the parent facing seat rather than the bassinet. Pros: itâs really sturdy, we use it for both urban and countryside walks and it handles well for both, a lot of people comment on how nice it looks (not that it matters but still!), suspension really does help on bumpier paths and the brake is solid. Bassinet folds and is safe for occasional overnight sleeping which was great when visiting family in the early days. Cons: when you fold it down with the parent facing seat attached it is very unwieldy and heavy. My mother in law is in her late 60s and she definitely canât lift it into the boot when folded, I need two hands and still I find it a bit heavy. I also find the harness a bit of a faff to fasten when thereâs a wriggly baby involved (esp when the footmuff is also on). I have seen the new Silver Cross Nia and it looks to be much easier to transport around than my Reef 2 so might be worth checking out to see if it would be up to the countryside walks!
Got silver cross reef 2. Hated it. Sold it and got the joolz aer + x
Love joolz. We sold our silver cross to replace joolz x no regrets
Omg I feel like I could have written this!!!! I felt the absolute same. Had c section. Sooooo heavy too. I didnât lift the damn thing in the shop cos I was preg so never realised its weight. And me and my husband detested the magnetic clasp. We did make use of the bassinet for safe sleeping for a few months until he preferred the contact naps. I struggled so much with the curb too. I managed to sell it on for a good price because the buyer liked how it folded with the seat on for boot space đ€Ł. Thank goodness someone liked it.
I didnât want to store another giant thing that I would only use for a couple of months, so I made sure my stroller was newborn capable and lie flat. I have a Silver Cross Reef 2 (which I love). My August baby took many a nap in the stroller in the house before I had to start bundling him up for winter (too many layers when we come back inside, so I have to wake him up, which sucks).
Weâre currently on holiday with our 3.5 month old and joolz aer + as our only stroller (without bassinet). Weâve also brought our car seat which fits onto the pram with adapters - this way we can use the car seat in taxis and is somewhere for our little one to be pushed around while facing us as the pram is just world facing. Our daughter isnât a huge fan of being put down and only contact naps so weâve only used the pram (without car seat) for walking down to the pool or popping to the shops, but it lies flat so no issues there. The best part is how much smaller it is than our main pram at home (silver cross reef 2) so was ideal in the airport (fitted in overhead compartment) and much more agile to manoeuvre. We think itâs great and no issues using at this age, although would recommend also having the car seat as an attachment if thatâs an option for you. As youâve already got it why not try taking it out at home and seeing how you find it? At 3.5 months baby will be a lot more robust and strong (ie able to hold body /neck more) than currently so I wouldnât be too put off if they seem so tiny in it right now!
Second this. Have the reef 2 with the Nuna pipa aire rx car seat.
I got a Silver Cross Reef 2 which has been good so far for different terrains, though I will say it's on the heavier side with the bassinet. Easy to fold though. I think the city type prams tend to be the lightest but are not so good on rougher terrain so it depends what is more important for you or if there is a middle ground somewhere. We went for a John Lewis appointment too so we could see how it folded and how heavy it was to carry before buying as it wasn't the cheapest. There was no pressure to buy there and then as they send you a discount code anyway so you can always see what you like best then shop around or see if you can get the one you like second hand.
