I bought the silver cross reef 2– best stroller ever
I am also so overwhelmed with picking a stroller. I’ve decided on a baseless car seat but because it’ll only be used for the first year alone, I can’t justify spending on a Nuna car seat. I think I’m set on the Clek Liingo baseless. Finding a compatible stroller I like is the issue. I like the Silver Cross Reef 2, because I can see myself using it long term and if we have a second baby, but ChatGPT doesn’t seem to like it lol. I’m not sure what other options to consider. There is the Joie Mint Latch paired with the Joie Ginger LX that I almost was sure I was going to get, but the fact they use flame retardants on their car seat has me second guessing.
I have the Reef 2 and my little boy has just turned 6 months so have just started using the parent facing seat rather than the bassinet. Pros: it’s really sturdy, we use it for both urban and countryside walks and it handles well for both, a lot of people comment on how nice it looks (not that it matters but still!), suspension really does help on bumpier paths and the brake is solid. Bassinet folds and is safe for occasional overnight sleeping which was great when visiting family in the early days. Cons: when you fold it down with the parent facing seat attached it is very unwieldy and heavy. My mother in law is in her late 60s and she definitely can’t lift it into the boot when folded, I need two hands and still I find it a bit heavy. I also find the harness a bit of a faff to fasten when there’s a wriggly baby involved (esp when the footmuff is also on). I have seen the new Silver Cross Nia and it looks to be much easier to transport around than my Reef 2 so might be worth checking out to see if it would be up to the countryside walks!
I have a Silvercross reef 2 and the bassinet attachment. It feels super nice and luxurious, and the bassinet is super comfy, my baby naps in there better than the bassinet in the bedroom. There’s definitely nothing wrong with any of the cheaper options, though. I wouldn’t get it if it’s a huge splurge.
Well my baby is only 4 months so I couldn’t speak to the long term quality. It doesn’t fold up super small like a travel stroller, if you’re driving a sedan or something it will probably take up a good deal of trunk space. I don’t find it too heavy but I am strong so ymmv there. Some people (my husband) find it tricky to fold but it only took me a few times to get the hang of it. You just have to push the button in while pushing it sideways, it’s just kind of not obvious. I’m still not sure if I want to have more so I didn’t consider the ability to be used as a double at all in my decision, so I’m unsure about that. Have you been to Nordstrom to look at them? I actually was on the fence about silver cross and bugaboo, and actually the reason I wound up going with silver cross was because someone had stolen their floor model of the bugaboo so I couldn’t try it, and I was a million weeks pregnant and wanted to be done shopping and wasn’t going to buy an expensive stroller sight unseen.
I didn’t want to store another giant thing that I would only use for a couple of months, so I made sure my stroller was newborn capable and lie flat. I have a Silver Cross Reef 2 (which I love). My August baby took many a nap in the stroller in the house before I had to start bundling him up for winter (too many layers when we come back inside, so I have to wake him up, which sucks).
I have a Silver Cross Reef 2. It handles wonderfully on rougher terrain. We had like three back to back snowstorms and I had to walk the dog, so out we went. Ice lingered for months due to subzero temps. It also goes over grass/dirt/cobblestones great. It has a hefty suspension. The Wave is the single to double stroller. I’m not sure if it handles terrain as well as the Reef. I think any double stroller will handle terrain worse than a dedicated single due to its structure. But I highly recommend getting a stroller with a lie flat newborn capable seat (like the Silver Cross). No need to have a bassinet, unless you’re using it for overnight sleep (some, not all, bassinets are approved for that). It just makes it so much easier to not have an extra thing to deal with.
If you’re taking public transit, get a nice carrier and take the stroller out of the equation. Or get a travel stroller. I personally use my full size stroller (Silver Cross Reef) out and about. It folds up small enough to fit under the table. Now that he’s older and if we’re not walking a ton, we just carry him a lot and use a high chair at restaurants.
I got a Silver Cross Reef 2 which has been good so far for different terrains, though I will say it's on the heavier side with the bassinet. Easy to fold though. I think the city type prams tend to be the lightest but are not so good on rougher terrain so it depends what is more important for you or if there is a middle ground somewhere. We went for a John Lewis appointment too so we could see how it folded and how heavy it was to carry before buying as it wasn't the cheapest. There was no pressure to buy there and then as they send you a discount code anyway so you can always see what you like best then shop around or see if you can get the one you like second hand.
