If you have the aria car seat, would you consider a used UB Minu stroller? It might fit overhead but also can gate check. I have the minu duo with the bag and the bag is pretty solid. Also gate checking the doona, if you plan to also use it as a car seat, runs a risk of damage to the doona which could impact the safety of the seat.

I got an Uppababy Cruz (single) gently used on Facebook Marketplace and it's been great! We had intended to space pregnancies about two years apart. Then I got unexpectedly pregnant with my 2nd at 5 months postpartum - due in January - and I recently bought a very gently used Uppababy Minu Duo on FB Marketplace. I wanted a side by side that could be used from birth on where you can also click a car seat into & I personally really hated the Vista and how heavy it was and its configurations for two. Honestly I don't regret what we did in terms of stroller decisions because I'm sure we'll use the Cruz a lot still!
I have the Uppababy Minu Duo that we use as our everyday stroller. We've been using it since baby was 5 months old. My kids are now 2.5 and 1. For context, I also have the Uppababy Cruz which I love. The Minu Duo is good for city use. I say that because it's fine on pavement, but I find it struggles with rougher terrain that the Cruz can handle like loose gravel, gravel trails, bumpy grassy fields. I suspect the other 2 strollers you are considering would have the same issue because of the small wheels. That said, I'm fine with that because it's rare that I encounter those types of terrain. The trade off for a lighter stroller is worth it for me, especially because I need to carry the stroller up and down a set of stairs from my front door. I find the Cruz feels smoother to push, maybe because of the larger wheels, but it could also be because I'm only pushing 1 child vs 2.
Oh man, I must say, I have the minu duo now and it is just not up to par compared to my butterfly. I know it’s not super fair to compare a single to a double but the quality is just not the same. I wish Bugaboo came out with a double butterfly.
I have the uppababy minu duo with a 6 month old and 2 year old. We got it when baby was 3 months old and toddler was 23 months. I just took it on a 2 legged trip to Mexico (City then Cancun) so had a chance to really test it out. I am in Canada where we don’t have the Bambi or Zoe. It’s the best option we have for a travel side-by-side but definitely has some downsides, especially when comparing to my single Bugaboo butterfly (sadly bugaboo doesn’t make a double travel - if it comes out with this I’d swap in a heartbeat). Pros: - fits everywhere. We have yet to encounter a doorway it doesn’t fit into. - the duo travel bag has wheels and a good travel warranty - pretty decent sunshade with nice back and top peekaboo windows/vents - leans all the way back for newborns - relatively decent undercarriage for a travel but there is a bar between the basket that makes it a bit cumbersome to put stuff under and does limit what you can stow - handle is nice - relatively easy fold and unfold (I can’t do it one handed but my husband can, and it is one step) When the seat is upright there is a little pocket / storage area above the seat under the canopy which has proven very convenient for sweaters, toys, snack related stuff and waters etc. - stands up on its end when you fold it - Handlebar feels nice and is a good height (we are a tall family though). Cons: - when you fold it up the seat backs remain out, so it doesn’t have a nice tight fold. This drives me bananas (the bugaboo doesn’t have this issue) - when kids sit in it and are old enough they can pull forward and the seat back comes right forward. My oldest is old enough to not do this and my youngest is too young to have figured this out, but I have friends with 15-18 month olds who have a huge problem with this and we saw a 10 month old in the airport in the regular Minu who was doing this a ton. Seems kinda unsafe. - fabric seems cheap - I don’t love the buckles/straps - my toddler (just over 2 now) can get out of it if she maneuvers the right way. I miss the bugaboo 5 point latch (also had a one button release). Meh: - the push. The bugaboo pushed better but not by a ton, and it’s hard to tell how much of the push resistance is just due to the fact that there are two kids in it. Steering around corners is clunky but that’s to be expected in a travel side by side. Wheels are small which makes them fold up small but means this thing can’t handle snow or rough terrain at all. But we had lots of cobblestone streets and sidewalks in Mexico and it was fine on those. For comparison, my bugaboo could handle all terrain a bit better - I took it out on slightly snowy sidewalks regularly. Hope it helps! While I don’t regret our purchase (I do think it’s the best on the market in Canada - rivalled only by the Nuna double but the mismatched seats would have been a mess for my jealous toddler), it leaves much to be desired imo and I definitely don’t love it like others seem to. Edit to add: I realize you didn’t specify what Uppababy. I didn’t even consider the Vista because it’s too clunky for me, steers like a tippy boat when you have two (imo, I’ve tested out a friend’s several times with her kids in it), my kids are tall so oldest would have grown out of very soon, and my oldest likes to be in and out a lot which is easier in a side by side because in the tandem she have to be in the top seat. I tried it once with my kids in it, and for this season alone it was an easy no. It does push better/on more terrain than the minu duo, basket is much better, fabric on canopy is nicer, and it’s nice to have both kids facing you, so those would be the pros. Width wise it’s about 2 inches smaller but as I said we’ve had no problems with the width of the minu duo fitting into narrow doors. It might be easier to take the vista to shopping malls but in my experience if it’s tight for the duo it will likely be tight for the vista.
We just bought the Minu Duo. Good for folding up and throwing in the car for errands where a double stroller is needed, but imo not so good for long neighborhood walks. It is kinda heavy to push because the wheels are so small - what makes it a great travel stroller makes it a meh regular stroller imo. If you are in a snowy climate it doesn’t push well in the snow. Our ages are now 25 months and 4 months so exactly your gap. If I’d do it from the get-go I would get the Bugaboo Kangaroo if I cared about width and getting in the car regularly (I do), or the bugaboo donkey if I didn’t plan on bringing it regularly in the car and didn’t care about width. Alas, my baby is 99th still for height and by the time I decided to get a double stroller I couldn’t justify spending that much for a bassinet I didn’t need, plus my oldest is in FT daycare so it’s not as often that I’m trucking them both along. With our first we traded in the City select for the bugaboo Butterfly (their travel stroller) and never looked back. If bugaboo had a tandem travel I’d purchase in a heartbeat.
So my sons have a 21 month age gap. My second was born in August. We have the UB vista and after a long debate, we stuck with it for the newborn days instead of buying a completely new double. I didn’t like the idea of bassinet at the bottom configuration but after trying it out in store (we had to buy adapters), it really wasn’t that bad. Newborn was asleep most of the time we went out anyways, and my toddler needed more attention so it made sense that he sat up top. It was also very easy to peer over the side to look at my second. With that being said, I don’t really use the vista as a double anymore 5 months later. It’s too clunky and heavy for me to steer. My toddler still likes sitting in the seat so I just baby wear my second. But at 2.5, will your toddler still like being in the seat? Maybe the ride along board is an option. I’m now looking to purchase the UB minu duo because I need something more lightweight and easy to set up (aka no set up haha). I actually regret buying the second seat for the Vista because it’s only been used twice.
We had the vista and the uppa baby car seats and it was great at first but it’s sooooo bulky! I hated going anywhere alone with it. We ended up getting the uppa baby minu duo (which you can use from newborn on) and I’m absolutely obsessed with it. It’s side by side but it fits through every door. It’s so easy to maneuver. Since we got it we literally have not touched the vista. I wish we had gotten the minu duo from the start. I would’ve gotten a. Cheaper base for the car seats to clip into and use the minu duo as my main stroller
I think only one car seat fits in the minu duo! We used the vista when they were infants because that obviously fit both. But if we could go back we’d keep the car seats in the car and just transfer to the minu duo as newborns. They’re only 6 months old/ 4 adjusted and we haven’t used the car seats in the stroller in two months since we got the minu duo. We bring it everywhere and just transfer them in and our of the car seats. The vista with car seats is SO bulky
The Minu will be fine and if it’s not the Cruz would not be much much better (let’s say there’s a big snowstorm, I’d use a sled).
We have a similiar lifestyle, we bought the minu and abslotutely love it : it’s compact and fits in our small entryway. It’s lightweight so I can carry it up and down the stairs pretty easily. It’s easy to manoeuver, fits in any doorway, etc. I think it’s a great city stroller. You can bring it in the plane if you remove the back wheels. It’s sturdy and well made. BUT it sucks in snow and would probably be shaky on cobblestone. (Yet most europeans have small strollers with tiny wheels and don’t really seem to care.)
Yes. Mine are 16 months apart. I use the minu duo.
We have the Uppababy Minu Duo for our girls who are 19 months apart. I love it. It's very lightweight and I love how compact the fold is, so we can easily bring it with us in the car. I only use it in the city, haven't tried it in nature areas yet. On the pavement it's super smooth to push it. It's easier to push both of my girls in the Minu Duo than it is to push just one of them in our Stokke Xplory.
Uppababy Minu duo. Newborn ready, full recline. We have the bugaboo donkey 5, bugaboo butterfly, and doona bike stroller. The Uppababy minu duo is our most used because it’s a compact fold, has lots of undercarriage storage. We’ve used it everywhere, the zoo, Legoland, Disney etc. I use this all the time to take my kids out by myself. Also looking into a wagon (Veer) but we like having the option of our kids taking naps in the stroller. Had the cybex gazelle for a bit and also liked it. We honestly never used the donkey anymore which is unfortunate for cost. I know friends who use the donkey everyday but it just didn’t work for us. Kiddos are 13 months apart. 15 and 28 months and absolutely the stroller and Wildbird/konny/kbtan carriers/wraps are our MOST used baby items.
To be honest my kids didn’t use it until 10+ months, because I carried each in carriers/wraps. I did have to mention it’s newborn compatible but yes I do agree it’s not the one for other terrain. I would recommend another stroller for that if you feel you really need it. I recommend the cybex gazelle (super compact IMO for a full size stroller or bugaboo donkey if you want the side by side option (extremelyyyy smooth ride) lots of people sell this one secondhand because even the bugaboo donkey 2 is being sold because it’s so Sturdy)
13 month age gap. Now 19 and 31 months. I have a bugaboo donkey 5, bugaboo butterfly, and Uppababy minu duo. I was only a fan of side by sides. The bugaboo butterfly gets some use. Minu duo gets used 99% of the time. Donkey 5 hasn’t been out. I baby wore my kiddos 99% of the time. If that’s something you may do with a 2nd. I wouldn’t worry too much about a double stroller until both are toddlers as that’s when I’ve needed it. The minu duo is newborn compatible as it does lay flat, and my kids are both comfy in there as toddlers. The minu duo needs smoother surfaces tho, sand, grass, etc. you will struggle. The donkey 5 would’ve been great if the bassinet was needed and it also connects for car seats as well. It also can be one seat converted into 2. Also great that it rolls and glides like a dream. The donkey might’ve worked if I had a bigger car. I drive a Tesla Y and stacking them all the time and connecting them back on the donkey 5 is a hassle for me.
